Again it seems that everyone is saying the obvious problem suisse song has. It's a grower. It doesn't impress you the first time. In eurovision, they only have 1 chance to impress you to vote for them. Most ppl listen to songs for first time in May. This song will get lost in the sea of ballads.

It's true that being a grower is generally not what you want, but most ballads suffer from this problem. Upside is that ballads bring an atmosphere and you can enhance this greatly through staging. There is far more potential to hook people with visuals and draw them in to get an emotional response. Bangers just don't get that same reaction.

Conchita Wurst - Rise Like a Phoenix is your ex,hibit (comma needed to escape it becoming a smilie for some reason) A here. Song is a pebble without visuals. With them it's a monolith.

That's a good assesment. A lot will depend on staging compared to the other ballads. Because their first competition is against the ballads and then against the most upbeat songs. That's not the case with an upbeat song.
