Actually I think they still send cool songs but just something is missed with voting. Anna Rossinelli didn't deserve the last place of course. I could say almost all songs in 2011 final were worse than In Love For a While. Also Switzerland's rock band was the one rock music in first semi and really in a lot of boring songs, they deserved top 3 for sure. Switzerland does whatever they can do in the best way. Just votes don't like Switzerland.

I do not have the same opinion as you, about this. They send cool songs, but not the best. Political voting is reason of weak results, but not mainly. Main problem is this that Switzerland can't send a masterpiece songs.

They need to come up with a more efficient system choosing their entry. It's 100% televote and considering ESC has juries it only makes sense to have them in the NF as well. I truly believe the second placed song would have won if the juries were there and had a much better shot at qualifying.

+ German + Italian ;)

Well, just looking back at the latest 3 :ch: selections, these have become my favs from each of them:

2011: Aliose - Sur les paves (French) (out of 12 songs in the NF this year, only 3 were performed in any of official languages of :ch:, 1 German - 1 French & 1 Italian)
2012: Ze Flying Zézettes Orchestra – L'autre (French) (4/14 - 3 in French & 1 in Italian)
2013: Chiara Dubey - Bella sera (Italian) (3/9 - 2 in French & 1 in Italian)

The German-language broadcaster seems very consisting on insisting to only sending English xshrug

Well, the last song in French they sent (Il Pleut de l'Or - 2010) finished last with only 2 points in the semi. But it was a very weak song, and Michael Von Der Heide did sing it quite badly xshrug

But I also prefer to see la Suisse sending French songs or annoucing the points in French ;)

Well, as you say that was a rather weak entry with a very non-appealing artist

What's with the French obsession in here though? :ch: is primarily German speaking

Yeah, but French takes a large part of the country, too. And apparently they've always been keener on sending songs in English or French, maybe because these two languages are more appealing to hear for the random european guy watching the contest (I'm not saying that German or Italian are horrible) xshrug But I understand that for some equality between the communities in Switzerland, sending songs in English is fairer...

As for the votes, French is, along with English, the official language of ESC, so why don't they announce their vote every year in French, it's one of their national languages for God's sake ! xthink

Nearly 65% of the Swiss population are German speakers, I don't see why French should have the upper-hand here?

Maybe French is universally more "appealing" to the random listener xshrug , I dunno... could be interesting if one could find statistics about such things (although it's just a question of subjective opinions)... I for one prefer German, although I can find appealing aspects in most languages (especially in music).

I think them going for English has more to do with this idea that it'll bring you more success in ESC though rather than a compromise, but their ESC track-record proves that it's a false assumption... actually I think dropping the English for a while could be better for them, but then again it all depends on the songs of course... but as I pointed out, atleast for me personally, my fav from each of the last 3 selections was a non-English entry... and I actually think all of those could have faired better than what they ended up sending xshrug

May I ask why? The only entries (partly) in French of the last ten years that were somewhat liked by the audience are We are the winners and Allez ola olé. I'm not saying the others flopped because they were in French but apparently and in contrast to some common belief the sound of the language alone does not seem to be a help either.

English is by far the worst option though for a country with four national languages. :?

I wont even suggest artist. They just need to give their artist a better staging. I might get stones from this but still think You and me is a good song but their presentation.... they just stand there...... their song is intense and they just stand there.....Also their background look like its from Saw movie.

Oh God ! And then you wonder why French speaking Switzerland would have the upper hand on Swiss selection ???? Because the Alemanish are there...

And, come on, the last french speaking Swiss who entered Eurovision is... Kathy Leander in 1996... So it's time for Romandie because Romandie rules !

Oesch's die Dritten applied for the NF in 2011 but got rejected through the online selection method.

Switzerland have very good developed club music scene. So, why they don't pick any artist which are representing this trend ? xshrug
