The legendary SVT program Inför Eurovision continues in the scaled down version as last year. While I really miss the old panel, I'm impressed by the host Malin Olsson. I think she truly shines as a TV presenter and show a sincere devotion for Melodifestivalen and Eurovision. The next Melodifestivalen host? Or member of the Melodifestivalen production team?

Yesterday night, SVT broadcast the third of four episodes of Inför Eurovision 2014 with Christer Björkman as Malin's sidekick as usual. The guests were Charlotte Perrelli and Christer Lindarw. During the chat, Christer L actually criticized this year's Melodifestivalen production and asked for the return of the festival with glamour and shameless celebration that got him hooked in 2002. He has worked behind the scenes of Melodifestivalen for many years as a designer and among other things, he designed the Lill Lindfors lost skirt gag of Eurovision 1985. But as he said, it wasn't until the Christer B 2002 Melodifestivalen remodel, he got personally hooked. We all know that this Christer B era is coming to an end and the big question now is what the future development would be. I think Christer Lindarw is a very competent and strong candidate to be a successor.

^I was not impressed by Charlotte Perrelli last night, though. She made some unnecessary comments after Conchita's song xshrug

Aww no, how can you say that? They all practically praised Conchita to the skies. No previous artist has got such unison support.

^ Not about the song itself, but when Malin said "Austria challenges us to think modern.", she said "No, I don't care about that way of thinking.. I think it's very strange.. hen here and hen there.".

About 31.15 into the show: Del 3 - Melodifestivalen | SVT.se

I thought it was very disrespectful to those who have that pronoun, and basically threw the message of the song down in the garbage can xshrug

(For those who don't know: "hen" is a gender neutral pronoun that has caused much debate in Sweden)

Haha, I didn't hear that. I guess Charlotte doesn't care for the new word hen. :D BUT, I honestly does not think that is disrespectful (against feminists I think you mean). Also, isn't it a bit of a thinking jump of Charlotte when she goes from LGBT-politics to Feminism? I guess she means she doesn't care of the politic aspect of the song, but instead adore it as an artistic masterpiece.

No I mean it's disrespectful to the queer and non-binary part of the population (and I meant the entire comment, not only what she said about "hen"). I don't think one should say what she said right after Conchita's song. She really didn't think it through.

Sorry, you lost me. I don't understand. I admit I do not take the hen debate very serious (but I respect and understand the use of the word). It just doesn't engage me much. As for the LGBT-aspects I'm just too ignorant to see where Charlotte is failing, so I have to take your word for it. However, I think she expresses the typical non-LGBT reaction to the message of the song: "Don't care of the message much but love the song", which also pretty much is my own reaction -sorry. xrose

^ No I don't take the debate very seriously either. The fact that there even is a discussion regarding a simple word is ridiculous (and therefore I don't understand why she had to make a comment about it).

She said it was "strange". What is strange? That a person both can be a man and woman, or neither? I guess she is very stuck in such a gender binary way of thinking, and that's very sad considering she is so popular among the LGBT-community.

OK, I get it

I like Charlotte very much and she's a terrific singer and artist. I think she's among the few current Swedish singers that can sing say Aretha Franklin classics with just the right emotion. I wish for her to develop her artistry beyond Melodifestivalen/schlager into a solid career of her own. Why not new music in the classic soul genre ala Amy Whinehouse?

I've never liked Charlotte, and now I certainly don't like her more. I don't know what it is about her? Her attitude and singing voice annoy me.

I guess it's since she stole Sanna's victory in 2008 (oh well, not her fault really, but still ).

Well, taste differ and thank god for that! I think Charlotte is a true pro and 10 times the artist of Sanna actually, but at the same time I know the comparison isn't fair as they are very different types of artists. I believe Charlotte has very much to thank for her in early days of live dansbands touring. To me she feels solid as rock and you can count on she'll nail anything that will pass her ways. But as I said, it's time for her to move on and deepen her artistry and to not fall into the same trap as Carola - confined to the Melodifestivalen format. I find Linda Pritchard very similar to Charlotte and I like her very much as well. I'm by no means a devoted fan to any these tho. :D

edit: I regret saying some of this. Sanna is impressing me more and more. :)

AshleyWright Yes, they discuss each entry. In the end of each show they also decide a "winner" out of those they've discussed in that particular episode. So far they've chosen Armenia, Ukraine and Austria.

It used to be an all Nordic TV show (produced by SVT and hosted by Christer Björkman) where celebrities from all Nordic countries listen, jokes and judge the Eurovision songs (praising all the Nordics songs of course ). I think it was an idea and initiative of Christer Björkman. Nowadays as you can see (here is a 30 day valid link of the latest show) it's more like a talkshow. You really need to understand Swedish to be able to appreciate its charm. It used to have at least some impact on the Nordic/Swedish votes which is why it was closed down 2013.

edit: sorry duplicate
