Like this you mean?

Yeah, that was great.

Or thisxcry1

Old footage mixed with the right music can be incredibly touching. I wonder if any Eurovision artists have ever done so? It's probably too much of an outsider thing to do.

I'm personally gathering old stock footage at the moment to go with the little piano folk songs i'm writing:rolleyes:

Boy that was a lot of gifs from American TV series. What I don't really understand is why Sanna Nielsen and/or Sweden should symbolise commercialism, kitsch and cheap productions in Eurovision. I find that connection pretty unfair as we indeed take the contest serious and always try to send songs with at least a basic public support among the Swedish people. I can admire Moldova and Albania for their support of artistry and originality, but the Swedish approach is different. I can also think that we're (or the SVT-team) doing the most concrete steps and actions to actually develop the contest and bring forward new concepts. To much resistance from "ESC fans" I may add. So @HabaHaba will perhaps be more fair and successful if going on crusade on these people.

Her style is awesome. Only two women can rock leather, Bonnie and Sanna xD The video is cool, but nothing amazing. I still think this will win~

The video is completely random, and regardless of what she wears or what make-up she has on, Sanna still looks like a grandmother. Curse those bad genes.

I just want to add on what I said about Australia/Sweden in terms of music videos, so I don't seem argumentative for no reason

Australia's music industry is the 6th largest in the world, and worth 3x as much as in Sweden, so arguably, has more money to spend on music videos than record labels in Sweden. Also, if you consider that Samantha Jade is currently Australia's most successful female artist after Jessica Mauboy, you'd expect a lot of money and effort to be put into her clips. Sanna Neilsen has only just released her 2nd video in how many years? Only in the last 2 years have labels started producing videos for MF winners before Eurovision begins, I recall, and given the level of priority given to music videos in Sweden, they are a hell of a lot better than most of the videos released by Jessica Mauboy and Guy Sebastian as well. I'm not saying either country is better, but comparing one music industry to another, money constraints considered, the quality of the music videos produced in MAJOR LABELS Sweden is much higher than in Australia.

To be fair though, Undo's video is just a weaker version of this:

So when Australia gets it right, it slays :D But, of course, it would be silly to compare Australia and Sweden's output to the UK and US as I and others often do. So I appreciate what we do have. Good allocation is key on a smaller budget, and I think Sanna's team did it well.

This is indeed an interesting subject. First I think one must ask to what extent you can calculate market share and values based on countries. This is very much an international market and I think it will be increasingly so. We often read of big international artists coming to Stockholm to record or doing some professional stuff. Likewise it seem common for Swedish artists going to for example Los Angeles even if they just have local fame. They're simply buying a preferred service. Very much of this info is also corporate secrets and it's difficult get the complete picture. However, the Swedish state has recognised the business as important and collected relevant figures. As I understand it is handled by a department called Tillväxtverket in cooperation by the branch organisation Musiksverige. Comments can be found on the mi Musikindustrin web site. So reliable analysis of different economical aspects can calculated. Then we have the major aspect: The music market is dominated by a very few multinational corporates.

One can ask for example the following:
1) What good does the big record companies add to the music business except profit for their share holders? Do they have an important role?
2) Does the big record companies support the local artists to the same extent as their big international stars?
3) What are the real figures for digital download and streaming in relation to buying physical original media (Spotify vs Piratebay vs iTunes)?

At the end of the day I think Sanna gets the video budget her record company thinks she and the song is worth and I think the same applies to conditions in Australia. I also strongly agree with what people have said that artistic quality isn't solely dependent on money other then perhaps the necessary means to get the job done.

edit:
An unknown indie band with small (no) budget can indeed do amazing videos:
Niki & The Dove - The Fox
Soso - Happy People (is said to has been produced on her laptop in her bedroom :D)

If she stands on stage and has a black background and that is all, just standing there in a black dress, with black floating jewels or something, then I will scream at the TV and headbutt my dog. She can take this to the next level and that would be AMAZING. No black black darkness gothic Sanne.

I wrote this in the Russian thread but judging from the reaction here I think it applies to this thread too:

People bitching about how cheap the video is please its for Eurovision not the charts. Music videos are pretty much dead last in the order of importance when it comes to ESC. A majority of countries don't even film one and they really aren't even needed. Any video is pretty much extra whip cream. They get the extra promotion job done and that's it. Truthfully the majority won't even know they exist xshrug

Does anyone in here actually believe we have a realistic chance of winning? And does anyone (outside OGAE) actually want us to win, again? Will it affect ESC negatively if we win (=ESC in Scandinavia three years in a row)?

I'm torn I must say. Sure, wouldn't be sad if we won - but I would be happier if it was with a better song than "Undo". It's not a bad song, but not worthy of the trophy. And I'm afraid that if we would host in 2015, a bunch of countries would withdraw xshrug I'm also not sure hosting two Eurovisions so close to each other would make the show so great, it's a risk it would lack creativity.

But then again, it could go either way on May 10th. Massive flop, victory or something in-between.

If this wins, my love for Eurovision will falter... Not indefinitely, but perhaps enough for me not to take too much of an interest next year.

"Undo my sad"? Please! xsnooty

I don't know what is worse: the video or the song itself. I really hope it won't win.
