Re: SWEDEN 2014

Oh please, Sweden have folk traditions just like any other countries have... as if only the balkan/east area have a history or traditional music??? Stop denying our existence finally... I mean REALLY? Of course ethno-pop is constructed, but so is it in those countries aswell, but it's a good way of keeping traditional music alive and up-to-date, I don't think it's a bad thing.

Yes, Sweden have a vital folk music scene and new pieces are written in traditional style at a steady pace. But, I thought wasn't ethno something else? A pop genre thingy with certain elements like big drums fires and stuff. :D

I mean, would traditional Swedish folk music be such a success in Melodifestivalen? I think most people would feel it's the wrong time and place for this kind of music. Some may even be offended.

Oh, I getcha now... sorry.

Well, ethno is a strange term, but I refer to "folk-ish" or "traditional-inspired" when I use that term... then there's many types, like ethno-pop for instance which is very common in ESC, and within that "genre" there are obviously alot of national sub-genres and different fusions aswell.

Timoteij I guess was the closest to Swedish "ethno-pop" we got in MF, also Nordman is sort of ethno-pop (but worse imo).

I would have loved a Swedish "ethno"-inspired ballad in Swedish though.

There you got it - Nordman! Sarek perhaps. A long time ago though. Nothing that feels fresh and exciting for me.

Oh yes, Sarek aswell...

Yes, but it should feel fresher of course, and maybe not as cliché ... I bet there are many good ways of making a fusion between modern music and ethno... Alexander Rybak managed to make that with Scandinavian folk, something similar could work in Swedish... but it could also be something unexpecting, like indie-alternative but with some folky touches... I mean it's all about imagination.

I guess you could find people who are into this right now in Sweden. Bringing them into spotlight and attention is a completely different thing. A signed record company contract is the absolute minimum to be able to participate in Melodifestivalen. To be honest, I can't think of any current example of this genre outside Melodifestivalen. Mainstream Benny Andersson? Opeth perhaps?

I don't think one has to be signed to enter MF???

The problem is that MF in general lacks transparency and it really is a "friends nepotism"-fest imo, a bubble that is quite unattached to the actual Swedish music scene and ironically very close-minded considered they have this "idea" about mixing different genres.

Not sending Timoteij and "Kom" to Eurovision in 2010 was one of the biggest mistakes. Sweden could have possibly got their win before Loreen with that song.

While I actually liked our 2010 entry, I agree that Timoteij would have been a better choice, and also considering the general weak year 2010 was, yes it could have been a possibility for a win... well atleast a top. 10.

Anna xheartxheart

Yes and look what Anna got Sweden... their first time observing the finals from the side line:eek::rolleyes::lol:

To be honest I didn't like Anna at all. She had one of those really forced, affected styles of singing. The song was pretty unremarkable as well I thought. Timoteij would have slayed that yearxyes

Please RainyWoods, leave Anna Bergendahl alone. She got a massive support from the Swedish people at the time and she had a well deserved victory in Melodifestivalen. Simple as that. Quite unique performance where she actually managed to reach out through the TV screen and grab hold of our hearts with her fragile singing. Her failure to qualify in ESC is still a mystery to me at least. Much of it bad luck I guess. It really doesn't matter, she was loved and frankly you got no business bashing her. Pretty pointless comparison by putting her against Timoteij like some kind of gameplay. I'd say rather clueless analyse as well since Timoteij wouldn't win Melodifestivalen in a million years.

I'm sorry LalehForWD. I didn't mean to offend. I was only light heartedly joking back at your pics you put up in response to what I had written. I didn't even bring Anna's name into my original post about Timoteij I don't think? I'm honest when I say i'm not keen on her voice but yeah, many people were keen and thats why she won. It's a shame she didn't reach the finals for Swedens sake as you're without a doubt, one of the best countries in the contest. It was sad the 100% finals record was no more.

I was just stating that I think Timoteij would have done really well in the competition that year if they were to have represented you. There are so many Swedish songs over the years that I think would have done amazing at the contest. Not always the best choices were sent I feel. The most important thing though is that the Swedish public are happy/proud of the choice.

Re: SWEDEN 2014

This is my life was a very nice ong but Anna missed her performance... Plus, the whole show was tacky. It smelt Christer Björkman to 1000 miles, with the disappearing useless guitar, and the boring chorists arriving at the end... It was so awkward, and plastic... Zero emotions...

But what does Anna now is nice ! I love this song ! :)

And yes Salem al Fakir was great and should have won ! :)

OK.

There's a Swedish word "innerlig" which I think best describe Anna's performance. It means something like open hearted, passionate, loving and honest. This is really what made her rejection so painful and it will probably hunt her for the rest of her life. I'm sorry to hear she was so misunderstood in Europe. I thought at the time it was brilliant act and I still think her performance was very unique and innovative. As always in Melodifestivalen, it's a combination of the song and the visual.

Yeah, I think i'm usually quite fond of songs described as "innerlig". Honesty in music is my favourite thing. In my opinion I wouldn't call the song Anna had innovative at all. I think it's sounds a bit "I just won X Factor and heres my winning song". Her voice again wasn't something new although possibly in a Eurovision environment it was? She seemed lovely. It's heart breaking for anyone I imagine to not reach the finals but especially someone in the situation she was. I remembered being surprised when she won Melodifestivalen but strangely more surprised when she didn't reach the final. I just never saw Sweden in that situation.

Melodifestivalen is certainly a visual experience as well as audio. Thats why this years contest looks like it's going to be so delicious performance wise. So much new stuff being done.
