Something just struck me. Wasn't this a year when we barely did any PR for our song? Loreen didn't travel around Europe to promote her song at all (or if she did, it was only in a few countries). Yet we won by a landslide, which means that the song and performance won due to its quality alone, not by drumming up interest beforehand.

In fact, I think this is the first song in pretty much forever winning without an extensive promotional tour?

xyeah
But are these promotion events really effective? How many millions did Charlotte Perrelli waste on her promotion? I think Melodifestivalen in itself is terrific promotion, with all the drama in Globen and the different Melodifestivalen YouTube videos. All people interested in Eurovision already had seen Loreen's dance and knew about her amazing voice. Melodifestivalen gives a huge advantage for the Swedish participant. Further promotion in relation to the other participants could be received as too much "in your face". She did promotion in Finland (The Voice of Finland concert) and Norway (Norwegian radio and Tooji meeting). A brilliant move was the acoustic concerts which immediately was published on YouTube.

Perhaps could her absence from these Eurovision events be viewed as snobbish and ignorant by some?

That's because her song was weak and she looked like a Korean cat alien hybrid that had had too much plastic surgery. The thing most people who weren't ESC fans remembered her for after her performance was how strange she looked. Also, again, pretty weak song.

If the song, number and artist are good to great, promotional tours do wonders. Remember how Loreen was topping/close to topping many foreign charts even prior to ESC? Each and every single one of those countries gave Loreen 8-12 points. If you add TV and concert appearances, you get additional fans/votes.

Again, promotional tours do not help mediocre to bad entries. But they certainly help good to great entries.

Only for those who are already fans of Eurovision. The vast majority of the viewers will not have watched foreign national finals or the entries on Youtube. But a lot of people watch breakfast TV and talk shows. If an Eurovision artist appears on one of those shows with a great entry, they will have reached out to potential viewers prior to ESC.

All people interested in Eurovision already had seen Loreen's dance and knew about her amazing voice.
But the point of having promotional tours is not to reach out to longtime fans of ESC but to the casual viewers.

 Korean cat woman? Haha, that's what's make her beautiful! I would say she looked like an anorectic Barbie! Which is sad really. :(

Poor Charlotte, she went from loved, respected and "folkkär" to "freak-show" and "loser" in one night. A shock and the death of Swedish schlager. :( You have to admit it was pretty unfair and undeserved though. I liked Hero and was glad it won Melodifestivalen 2008. But it wasn't the happy, classy and confident Charlotte with a great Swedish schlager who performed later on in Eurovision. She lost the magic somewhere and somehow during the Eurovision preparations. The blooming pregnant woman with beautiful integrity, who was great in singing Whitney Houston covers, was suddenly replaced by a skinny desperado with a dated disco song (which wasn't true).

So yes I guess I agree, promotion of a bad act is futile.

I haven't seen any ESC artists done this in Sweden though (except Jedward?).

But this must be very difficult to do. Say Ivi Adamou would have wanted promote La La Love in Sweden prior to Eurovision. What on earth could she have done to reach Eurovision-oblivious in Sweden?

Almost nobody ever does promotional appearances in Sweden for Eurovision because it simply does not work. Too many people vote in Sweden for a promotional appearance to have much of an impact. We have too many diehard fans, etc., etc.

However, in countries where interest in Eurovision, or at least interest in voting in Eurovision, is much smaller than in Sweden, an appearance on a national TV show might do wonders. A few hundreds new fans/votes might amount to a 5-point difference

Right, I guess I understand. In a country with low interest in Eurovision, there are also few voters. A good campaign may drive up more and friendly voters and the country points biased to your advantage. xthinkxwhistle;)

I'm getting a bit sceptical of the merits of promo tours. The entrant who did the most promo this year was Anggun.

Certainly, turning up to Eurovision fan concerts, such as the one in Amsterdam are a waste of time (at least in terms of promo). Everyone attending those things already have their favourites.

She wouldn't have received any attention other than Eurovision-oriented media if she had gone to Sweden. The TV show "Inför ESC" is the only event that can make a difference in Sweden.

I'm of course naive enough to think that there must be some sort of "public interest" to get an artist into a TV show for an interview or playing some songs. The TV station cannot get "bribed" (promotion money or something) to show attention to an artist. At most the TV station gets the concert for free. But when I think about it, it wouldn't surprise me if there were TV channels for hire. What about MTV?

I'm disappointed... I was expecting something really good but all we got is Loreen taking a walk in the woods... I really don't like the concept and it's not something I will watch over and over again. I totally prefer the live performances of MF/ESC. The photography of the video is really good but the concept...meh

The Warner Music Sweden official video

I completely agree with alca, although I understand Loreen as well. This is totally Loreen herself and her doing. At some level I laugh (this was my first reaction) and at another level I cry. We thought we were sitting in Loreen's speeding car to instant stardom. Now we realize we haven't got that far.

The video is very beautiful and must be seen in HD full screen. Just note that it was highly skilled professionals who made this video. The movements in the video are not synced to the music which I think gives an amateurish impression. Why? The video gives a super dark mood, which is not how I experienced the Melodifestivalen act.

The video premiere presentation event was a mess and a big disappointment. The huge built-up hype on facebook resulted in failure. Someone blew it big time and I hope this anti-climax will not hurt Loreen further on. The team promised a release at 10:00 but it was delayed until 12:30. Meanwhile the video was leaked to the Swedish tabloids at 8:30. Utterly confusing. :(

Just to be picky, here is the link to the real official released HD video at muzu.tv. Apparently not available in all countries. The official YouTube videos are released at the Official Warner YouTube channel.

Like you guys, I was expecting something more "in your face" but it wouldn't have stuck to Loreen's interpretation of the song. I remember in an interview that she said "Euphoria" was a subtler feeling than craziness or happiness, so in a way, I'm not surprised that she imagined a video like this: with slow moves, darkness and play of light. All the weathers that follow one another are certainly symbolizing the emotions she experiments through Euphoria.
