Re: SPAIN 2016

'Say Yay' is popular perhaps because Europeans are tired of powerful slow ballads that are being served every single year. The apogee was achieved last year. More recently we got :ru: 2015 :ru: 2014, :ru: 2013, 2015, 2014, :pl: 2015, :hu: 2015 :gr: 2015, :ua: 2013 and many others. 'Say Yay' has catchy melody and would certainly stand out more in the contest that has recently became full of songs that bore the public. Personally, I don't think Spain could win with this but I see why people like it and why it is 1st in ITunes Spain. Meanwhile, in my opinion other songs in the preselection are of rather poor quality and they wouldn't even stand a chance.

You don't get to decide what European are tired of. I thought last year's ESC was the best for many years, and I do enjoy a good ballad better than cheesy Latin pop.

I just gave a suggestion as to why this may be the case. I saw a lot of complaints on the Eurovision forums as well as heard it from other people that there are too many ballads. That is why this song (as well as entries like 'Golden Boy' last year) have a chance to do well. Just because you enjoy it, doesn't mean that everyone does - after all you are not the centre of the universe. I am not saying that there should be no ballads at all but too much of something is rather a negative thing. In the same way, there were many kitschy comedy acts. Some of the ballads are good (:ua: 2013) but some are very boring at least in my humble opinion (:hu: 2015, :cy: 2015). That is why I understand people may like it.

Hmm, Say Yay is not Latin pop

So what would you class it as then?

When did I say I was the centre of the universe? I'm simply stating that not every Eurovision fan likes the cheesy, "modern" up-tempo pop songs. A lot of them favour ballads, and I'm one of them.

I would say Maverick's entry is very stereotypical Latin pop, and to a lesser degree Maria Isabel's song but with a more contemporary Latin sound.
Barei's song is harder to categorise but I don't get any Latin pop elements from it.....I would say Gospel-tinged pop with a 90s dance sound:D

Re: SPAIN 2016

I have to admit that I like most of the songs presented tonight, so a big joining the hype train :-)

Pre-NF-Favorite of mine (but only listened to the songs 2-3 times) is Maria Isabel, but this could change during the night.
