Actually I think what saved Portugal last year was the jury. So the jury isn't killing ethno just bad singers!

Actually Portugal qualified from the semis without jury help...

If there was a portuguese entry that deserved jury love it was last year... it was really charming and had roots in the country...

this year is just cold and rootless...

Well she sings in portuguese, so its not so rootless, and portugal is not just ethnic rhythms (that would be a very poor definition of a country, since someone who might not enjoy ethnic music wouldn't be considered portuguese anymore).
I'm with A-lister, those juries are stupid snob people. Be ready Romania!

Yeah, I'm with you. Stupid snobs who are experts at what they do. It's only brain surgeons and rocket scientists who outsnob them. I really hate it when people know what they're talking about!!!!

...but I like you!

Oh give it a rest... they are not more experts than any of us...[/quote:2ajqgct8]

Okay...so what do YOU do for a living?!
It's mostly that the juries are killing ethno and entries that are connected to the countries that i'm concerned about... this year it's Slovakia, Finland... last year it was Moldova, Portugal...

I already saw a decline in this kind of entries this year and that's, atleast for me, the soul of Eurovision :(

Don't worry, you'll always have us Greeks to preserve the genre! ;)

Well true

But... no offense but Greece also has quite big diaspora and Opa was... well kind of fun but ...

yeah whatever...

I'm REALLY sad for Slovakia honestly...[/quote:2v0u4wk5]

Yeah, great diaspora in USA and Australia. Very helpful. Blame our qualification on diaspora now. If it weren't for us the audience in Telenor Arena and the viewers from home would still be sleeping. Thank God there was also Hera and people waved their flags.

Yes, just like professional dancers are not better dancers than us....or trained singers not better singer than us........

There are no such thing as "expert in music"... offcourse some people may be more musical than others... but it's not really the same thing...

Why do we even trust a group of 5 randomly chosen people for each country really?

These so called "experts" gave an dated eurodance song from Finland the wildcard last year... and if they cared for singing then wth happened with Sweden last year?

I mean c'mon... these "so called experts" didn't prevent Turkish diaspora voting last year although Hadise was even WORSE live than Kristina...

So no.. these people are not more experts than any of us...

Another option Central Europe might encourage - have Slovenia win this year. :D I've a feeling something crazy and unexpected will happen with that entry, hopefully.

I give them credit that they sang in portuguese...

I know that ethnic music is not necessarily part of the "pop scene" in most countries... but it has been a way of showing of what's unique in Eurovision though but the juries seem to dislike it...

Greece has quite much diaspora everywhere actually...

I didn't "blame" it on that... Did I say the song was an unworthy qualifier? Nope I didn't

Yes, there are experts in every field. They are trained at what they do and devote their lives for to it. As far as them being "random"...you act like they went to a park and gave 5 people a golden ticket to the jury or something.

So YES, these people ARE more expert than some of us!

I'm really curious to see the complete voting results... Even if there were either no jury votes or no televotes, I'm really surprised that Slovakia has not even reached a position between 5 - 10...

Did you even SEE the jury votes last year? Obviously you didn't read my response...

It's quite naive to believe that they are some sort of "experts"... I thought their voting last year pretty much proved the opposite

I wouldn't be surprised if Slovakia ended up 11th in the ranking of this semi final. Personally I'm not that sad this song didn't make it, and probably the weak performance tonight put off plenty of voters that normally would have helped this one reach somewhere between position 8-10.

I was sure that Slovakia is hot contender for the win till the end when Iceland was anounced as last qualifier. Then I was shocked. How come this song didnt qualify. We all agree that performance was mot very good but Slovakia deserved to be in the final. Im sooooo sorry for Kristina and Slovakia :(

What a shame it didn't qualify, it was definitely better then some of the songs that did end up qualifying. Its quite unfortunate and I'm afraid that Slovakia might not stick around for next year after this disappointment! :(

Slovakia should withdraw next year as Poland.
