Nice how you use "american" almost like an insult. I am very happy that portugal qualified, it was very well deserved. Of course those who don't feel the song complain about it but I can live with that. Congrats Portugal!!!

I have nothing against the USA, but Eurovision should be about Europe right?

If countries sending songs with flavor of their own folk and in their own languages and the juries prefer American Idol type of ballads then tell me where is the EURO in Eurovision?

I don't agree that the song is american at all. It's super portuguese to me so I don't see the comparism at all. The woman has a very strong voice, does that make her american? NO, it makes her a great singer.

What is so american about it to you??? But that should be discussed in the portuguese topic.

To Slovakia: I feel bad for the country as a lot of people thought this was a sure qualifier but I never liked it so I am not too upset about the outcome. There's always next year.

Doubt there'll be a next after this. :( This is the BIGGEST mistake in Eurovision EVER. The same thing happened to Slovenia last year. :(

I don't think it was an American Idol type of ballad but, even if it were, would it be right for Slovakia (my No 4 in my Top10 actually) to pass with such a horrible performance and for Portugal with an exceptional performance not to be in the final?

Nah, it was a crappy song with not the best performance. Those who cry "foul" are sore losers and need to get over themselves. Some of my favorites didn't make it but it's just what it is.

The semi ended up very bad for Slovakia and although this song was one of my favourites, as soon as I watched Cristina's performance, I knew she wouldn't stand a chance. So, I am glad Portugal passed instead of Slovakia but sad because instead of Russia we could be having Finland in the final, that imo deserved it most.

Exactly, I thought the same ;)
She was so scared like somebody will kill her  The first time I saw the singer, shaking so much of fear on stage while singing. I can't understand this. What happend to her? I mean, it's not her first appearance in life

The only "portuguese" in that song is the language... the rest is totally American...

Yes, she can sing... but there's nothing beautiful in "over-singing" and wailing and that's "typically" american...

There will be no next year for Slovakia because there's no point for them... They've always failed although they were always good enough... and I guess if you only care for the live voices then Slovakia last year should have qualified because they were vocally brilliant...

but this is also a SONG contest and not just about the voices...

so listen to 3 minutes of wailing is brilliant?

Well taste differs obviously...

Can I be a sore loser for Finland?

Oh well, that's the beauty of the ESC! ;)

So to show-off your vocal range and have a 3 minutes of just wailing is "exceptional"? I thought also the songs were somewhat important but obviously not...

I don't know what to say. It was one of the most sincere performances. It was great, sadly it didn't do well. :( Pity for Slovakia, they deserved the final more than Russia or Portugal.

So, there's no way that people simply liked the song and voted for it? According to you I guess not.

Wait till you see the jury votes...

i'd say probably very little chance for this without the juries

[quote="A-lister":2fq8yjf9]I am very sad for Slovakia.

It just proves that that this contest is about politics, friends and diaspora.

The most worthy song is out while AWFUL entries like Portugal (jury help) and Bosnia (diaspora-block) is still in.

So what you're saying is that Portugal made it because talented, reknowned musicians voted for it, so it had nothing to do with politics, friends and diaspora? Well, good...we agree! Have a nice day!

Oh, wait...I guess we don't agree, because you just said that Slovakia was the 'most worthy song'....YIKES!!!

I don't define talent in who can "show-off" the voice most. That was just screaming american mess and had nothing to do with Europe what so ever and actually... where was the song? I could just hear screams...

And the day Eurovision turns into American Idol copy then we can all say YIKES!

I thought Eurovision was about to celebrate Europe but obviously it's about to celebrate on who can have the most souless american screaming ballad of them all.[/quote:2fq8yjf9]

You are being completely rude towards Americans! Well, we'll use all the money we get from our record sales worldwide to dry our tears. If only we could have the artistic soul of Sweden in your eyes...oh, well!

Jury votes are equal to televotes but you make it sound like they are not as important.

Even if it is the case and the juries awarded it the majority of the points, i could say the same thing about songs like Russia, Sweden or Armenia...."oh, it's only because of the teleovters that they qualified"...juries have a 50% say....it is what it is

Nah, I love the states and have friends and relatives there...

I just hate that type of wailing ballads that just goes on without no real melody and just voice-show-off... i'd rather listen to a weaker voice with a nice song than 3 minutes of voice torture.

Hmm.. well this is what we're saying? It's because of the juries some countries did not qualify...

we do aknowledge their power
