Re: SERBIA 2012 - Željko Joksimović

I thought Serbia was one of those countries (like Portugal and to an extent, France) who always sung in their own language?

...I thought so too... but then something have happened with ESC in the last few years :(

Portugal has sung partly in English a couple of times before, Serbia as far as I'm concerned is the only country which hasn't even sung parts in English yet, and I hope they stick to that, especially now with a Zeljko composition which most probably will sound out of place in English.

Re: SERBIA 2012 - Željko Joksimović

RTS wants our songs to be in Serbian so I'm sure he will sing in Serbian..

Major respect to RTS for this and hope they'll keep it this way! While the quality of Serbian entries have been quite up-n-down lately, atleast you never sold out, and in at all times (except for past year) you also stayed true to your traditional and local music! Countries should learn from you.

I hope you're right.

I mean last year's entry I could get if it ended up in English afterall (glad it didn't though), but a Zeljko composition!?

Re: SERBIA 2012 - Željko Joksimović

am looking forward to Zeljko's song, I am especially curious as he has given no indication as to what style it is in. And now after Armenia dropping out (they usually give Russia 12 points) and the Russian National selection itself. I am starting to believe that this year could finally be Zeljko's year. There is a fascinating interview (in English) with Zeljko here: http://wildrooster.blogspot.com/2012/03/serbias-zeljko-joksimovic-has.html

I hope it will be Beograd 2013!

Re: SERBIA 2012 - Željko Joksimović

I make a sure bet he'll sing in Serbian. First of all - his English accent isn't that good (and I think he and Duska (RTS) r well aware of it:lol:)
And secondly, song will be performed in Serbian. Whatever song they perform that night - this will go to Baku. There won't be modification, translation, revamping etc.
OK, I can't be 100% sure, but I really think he won't change anything, except presentation/performance.

@Qabadachia - I forgot to comment on Beovizija issue. Tbh, I don't miss it, I only miss the opportunity to choose our song, to have say on this, u know...(although I know 1 sms won't substantially affect the result, lol), I remember when there was BVZ, there were always scandals with it. There were 1-2-3 songs that stands out and all the others were crap.:/
Now, in BVZ we can't allow jury to choose - cause they'd pick Ivan Bosiljcic or wife.
and can't allow audience to choose - cause they'd go for any of Zvezde Granda... I really don't know what recipe should be applied.
In fact, I think there won't be BVZ ever again, because RTS saw how much work/time/money it takes, they'll rather go for internal selection. One fine day when Tijanic goes, I think RTS will be still repulsive to BVZ.

The song is apparently called Brodolom. The English title is Synonym.

Re: SERBIA 2012 - Željko Joksimović

Eurovision said:
The wait is almost over to hear Željko's Serbian entry

Since Serbian broadcaster RTS announced that the popular Željko Joksimović was to be their entrant in this years Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, there has been great anticipation regarding the style of song that he would choose as the Serbian entry for 2012.

On Saturday, a special show commissioned by RTS called The European Song will be held. The main purpose of the show is to showcase for the first time Željko Joksimović's Serbian entry for the 2012 edition of Europe's Favourite TV Show.

RTS gave Željko carte blanche with regards to the choice of the Serbian entry this year. He was given full authority for the decisions on every aspect of the song.

The speculation surrounding the type of song Željko would choose to take to Baku has been rife. Will it be a slow or uptempo song? Will it have a traditional Balkan feel like his other entries? These questions are all set to be answered on Saturday evening.

Special guests and full orchestra

The show will be a live broadcast, where Željko will perform some of his greatest hits, but with a completely different arrangement, as the RTS Symphonic Orchestra have been drafted in to support.

Other special guests will include some familiar names to those who have watched recent Eurovision Song Contests. These are Hari Mata Hari, JelenaTomašević and Bora Dugić.7

Željko Joksimović at Eurovision

Željko Joksimović almost won the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest for Serbia & Montenegro with Lane Moje, only losing out to Ruslana's Wild Dances for Ukraine.

He then returned as composer for the entry of Bosnia & Herzegovina, Lejla in the 2006 contest, which Hari Mata Hari took to third place in the Final.

Željko also composed the 2008 Serbian entry Oro, which was performed on home soil by Jelena Tomašević and Bora Dugić and finished sixth in the Final. He also co hosted the 2008 contest in Belgrade.

Re: SERBIA 2012 - Željko Joksimović

I don't expect me to like what is coming in from Serbia, since Zeljko's songs are always grief-stricken and depressive....

Anyway, I'm interested.... :D
