Wait, did they actually confirm that?Apparently EBU won't throw Russia out. Dimwits.
Wait, did they actually confirm that?
There are a lot of heroes of this day. He's one of them.Isn't this Russian a hero of the day? https://mobile.twitter.com/WarsontheBrink/status/1496916223229108226 ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Maybe the plan is to send Sergey. He's against the war, so he won't get booed...Sergey's statement, bless his soul:
Yeah. But I hope they change their mind once some broadcasters start a boycott. I could see Sweden pulling out, SVT already critizied the decision.Wait, did they actually confirm that?
He would be a smart choice, so I think it's likely.Maybe the plan is to send Sergey. He's against the war, so he won't get booed...
It is absolutely shameful that the EBU announced this morning that Russia can still compete in Eurovision. Even if they change their stance now, this will not undo that their first reaction was that Russia is still welcome. They said that after the invasion had already started.🇸🇪 Sweden: SVT Calls on EBU to Rethink Whether Russia Should Compete in Eurovision - Eurovoix
The European Broadcasting Union has stated this morning that Russia remains welcome to compete in Eurovision 2022.eurovoix.com
I agree. Putin probably wouldn't have invaded Ukraine now, if Trump had won the election. But maybe that's too off-topic for this part of the forum.Speaking as a libertarian minded person but non-libertarian there we wouldn't be a war right now if he was still in office for several reasons. Not getting into that here though. Just remember nobody does propaganda like US, Russia and China.
I knew about 2 weeks ago. I saw they are all in same mode as we were before Serbia attacked.I knew it a month ago due to my experience with Yugoslav war in the 90's. The whole situation with Ukraine has been unfolding by the same playbook the Milosevic's regime had written and performed from 89' to 91'.
I remember traveling by train as a child in early 1990 in northern Bosnia and seeing Yugoslav National Army tanks wandering around wheat fields. In that moment the whole family realised that tanks do not wander around wheat fields near the federal border with no purpose and that the Army is preparing us some bloody script.
I knew about 2 weeks ago. I saw they are all in same mode as we were before Serbia attacked.
After Putin’s speech about Ukraine not being a state...we listened to exactly same crap in ‘91. Literally, like Russians copied it from Serbia.
This entire crap is copy-paste from Croatia in 91’. The narrative, the approach, the arrogance of Russia/Serbia. Same excuses, same bullshit propaganda...
If they participate they will send another disabled person or young blond girl in a white dress or Sergey with another spectacular show (that under normal circumstances would deserve praise). Everyone will boo that act no matter what and then they have more footage to spin the "everyone else is bad and unfair" narrative. I can already see the russian jury giving 12 points to the Ukraine just to spit in our faces even more.I think the EBU should not ban Russia, that would be doing them a favour, an easy way out of the contest. Now Russia haven’t got a clue who or what to send, as even they know the best result will be people just booing, and withdrawing will just make them look really bad since the EBU has given them room for their narrative.
Russia is still ahead of Germany. Something to laugh at in dark times...Russia is plammeting in the odds, #22 now and we dont even know whos going lol.
If I was Sergey I would never agree to go, whoever is going and whatever they are bringing is already doomed.
Ukraine on the other hand is #2, coz of the probability of receiving a lot of sympathy votes ( thought: maybe Ukraine should perform as a guest and not compete? )
That is absolute nonsense... Most of the scenarios you mention end up with cancelation of Esc but you dont see grounds for expelling Russia? Think of it as Eurovision self preservation. To be honest, I am very conflicted. I am never huge on punishing the citizens or depriving the citizens' rights just because of the actions of the country's government. Therefore, as controversial as it sounds, if EBU really wants ESC to maintain political-neutrality, then Russia should be allowed to compete despite the circumstances.
As some others pointed out, many other countries over the recent years have been involved in international conflicts of various degrees, and EBU did not ban their participation. And the reason why EBU has suspended Belarus's membership is because the broadcaster was found to be in breach of EBU's protocols. It's not because of what Belarussian President done to its citizens.
Therefore, unless the Russian broadcasters (who hold the EBU membership) are found to be engaged in activities that are in breach of EBU's protocols, it's highly unlikely Russia will be banned despite this hideous war that Puke-tin has initiated.
So, the ways I can see how Russia is not participating are:
- the Russian broadcaster decided to withdraw on their own (this would be the best scenario)
- no Russian artists would like to represent in the competition (this would be good to prove that the Russian artists are showing solidarity)
- the Russian broadcaster deliberately breaches EBU's protocols (which is also a good thing so EBU can then have the official reasons to ban them)
People are suggesting the other broadcasters to boycott the event to exert pressue EBU banning Russia's participation. I don't think this will bode well. It could very well that these broadcasters will be censured by EBU for trying to bring in the political elements into ESC or EBU may very well cancel this year's competition (then Italy is going to suffer as a consequence).
Therefore, in short, at this point in time, I am very inclined to believe Russia will still be able to participate.
It is really unbelievable how gullible people can be. Do you think this Lazerev guy is going to make a statement criticizing his country and risking his career?
This kind of non specific statements that don' t say much are exactly the same as the 'peace and love' songs that Russia has always sent to Eurovision: propaganda.
