Nooohooohohohooooo *catches breath* ooooooooohohohooooooo

Nooo...

Belgium at unlucky #3 :(

#2 is unlucky if there is one, no winner has come from the #2 spot and every country that performs #2 in semi finals either doesn't qualify, or is around 8th place of the qualified...

I'm not too upset about the songs that got #2, but Belgium is my fav, and only 25% qualify from starting at #3 :/

Edit; According to wiwiblogs, #3 has the lowest qualification percentage of any slot.

I do think that being amongst the first to perform in each semi is a drawback. That has been statistically proven, hasnt it?
But do we really know that going before or after a "weak" or a "strong" entry really changes the outcome of a songs chances to do well?
I am not very convinced....
As for the running order not being random anymore I think it is actually good for any entry. This way we get a bit more variation in the show. Even thought it is hard to make the show very varied this year - with the lack of real up-tempo songs!

Well, the #3 spot has produced 4 winners, while #2 has none

And in 2013, San Marino was #2 in the semi final running order and failed to qualify, the same goes for Israel last year. Iceland came close to not qualifying in 2012 and Norway came 17th in the semi final in 2011.

While #3 there were cointries like Latvia 2009, FYROM 2013 and so on.

#3 is the unlucky number looking strictly at semi-finals, having only had three out of twelve songs qualifying.

I have no doubt #2 is worse if looking at figures from the grand finales. But that's not what I was talking about, since the thread's about the running orders of the SFs.

That's what I'm talking about, #2 has produced fails in songs that have been predicted a top 5 result... #2 can eliminate anyone, Belgium has too good of a song to be eliminated in a #3 spot, he won't join "Probka" and "Pred da se razdeni"

It really depends on the songs that surround an entry though. As someone said before Estonia managed to be an under the radar qualifier from slot #2 in 2013, so not all hope is lost for Armenia and Ireland. Out of these two I only want Ireland to qualify though.

Of course, and with Armenia performing before and Netherlands after, I don't see any problem with Belgium qualifying. But then again, San Marino was #2 in 2013, Latvia was #1 which came last and F.Y.R. Macedonia was #3 and came second to last, San Marino still failed to qualify.

Don't count the pre-1997 winners because we didn't have televoting back then, so the running order has no real effect.

Despite Belgium didn't get a good place, I don't think it's a major problem. Belgium has a song that stands out and it will stand out performing anywhere. This is the typical song that could become a real dark horse if the performance is good, but also come last in the opposite case. Regardless of the running order.

Played semifinal 1 in full running order.

Estonia blows Greece off!
Russia stands out, as does Georgia
Belgium and the Netherlands are kinda forgotten.

huh? What does :lt: 2011 have to do with pre-1997 ESC times, apart for being an uber old fashioned song?

It fell from 1st to 20th(!) in the jury's ranking with a worse draw. :p

#3 has produced quite a few successful results even during the televote era (:mt: becoming runner-up in 2005). I think Jessica Garlick is the only singer to have ever done from slot#2 in the new millennium. To a lesser extent also Dino Merlin, but not so with jury scores.
