I don't find it appropriate to label Eurovision a hetero-friendly, gay-owned event, because that is not about inclusivity at all anymore. And I don't find it appropriate to judge someone's performance by his mindset instead of merit. Eurovision might have changed Laura's view of the world, or not. But there's no credibility in shutting her out for what is supposedly in her heart. The pendulum could swing back and gays become the hunted and incarcerated again, which is what I do not wish for my own wellbeing.
No one knows if Sergey Lazarev is gayfriendly or a homophobe, but it doesn't matter as long as he looks hot and flexes his biceps for William to fondle inappropriately.
Someone is not a homophobe for opposing gay marriage. Many gays are not supporting the institution of marriage, because it is an old-fashioned, archaic concept and hypocritical when non-believers ask a priest for his blessing. That is not a valid argument to keep someone away from Eurovision.
Sergey Lazarev is gay though, he even seems to have some kid through some surrogacy arrangement so I guess he technically isn't open because Russia is as it is... but there are enough "proof" floating around that he is gay.
I kind of agree with this statement though, I'm gay myself but I don't really think a song contest is the time and place for politics. Frankly I couldn't care what this kid has to say about same sex marriage anyways, when I was 16 I was also opposing it (even though I already knew I was gay myself back then) but I have grown to be a supporter of it (for obvious reasons), and who knows maybe this girl will as well one day? To judge a song contest based on someone's political views is a bit silly, I mean did she join ISIS? Did she physically harm someone? Did she call for murders of gays? Not really... so I think it's far stretched to arrange the results based on political views then (if this is what actually happend with the Wiwi guys).
Generally, if I were to judge artists/actors I like on their political views, I'd end up listen to almost no music or watching barely any movies as I tend to often disagree with these peoples' views, but I know that entertainment is one thing and one simply has to filter that noise out and judge the context (in this context a song contest).
Now, I wasn't a fan of hers anyways so I'm kind of indifferent to her not winning, however I still think Romania ended up picking a worse entry than they could have had things been done fairly. I however don't think it has much to do with her political statement, but rather that this selection is corrupt and has been for years. Last year was the "people's choice" but tbh I think it was only on paper, as that choice seemed shady and odd as well. As I wrote before, if they won't deal with their corruption in this selection, it doesn't really matter what voting system they use as it's all made up behind closed doors anyways. So before scream at the Wiwi guys for their "political angenda", one should rather question if they are so easily bought? I mean they have been running articles in the past that are pretty much bought by some third part, and they need to get money from somewhere, so I'm afraid they can be bribed in a selection too.
