Hum... most of times, RTP introduce the big favorites around 6-9...
Mimicat was #8 and Iolanda #6 with 12 participants
Maro got the #9 and The Black Mamba #10 out of 10.

The running order is really weird... I'm guessing there will be a small interveal after song 4 and 8, but considering that both Peculiar and Henka had smoke in the semis and RTP lacks the time to clear the air, I don't see why they aren't performing at number 4 and 8...

There's no male power ballad, there are some mid-tempo male ballads like Netherlands and Czechia, but they lack the grandeur and intimacy of Fernando's song.

Uhm. Czechias 'true' Version is not even out.

That said, I do not get this. The acoustic Version of "Kiss Kiss Goodbye" is miles, miles, miles,... better than "Medo", and most of all feels much 'grander' with that ending. And personally I find Adonks a more impressive vocalist too. (Claude too, but his song does not highlight it fully IMO - so far).

Some critics may call it basic, but the staging has a easy to understand message, anyone in europe will understand what is happening and may even sympathize with him, so I think we can get a respectful result in the televote.
I do worry about one thing, the running order. The story of a unknown singer writing a song in his home and making it into the big eurovision stage is a great opener and that would be bad for Portugal.

Well, definitely not everyone, because I 100% did not get it. Neither did any of my NFs watching German friends. And with that explanation, I'm not sure what is there to sympathize with? And why is he climbing on a chair anyway?

The performance overall is fine, and will get jury points, and will likely do well at Eurovision. But it's just really nothing special. It's biggest advantage is being a ballad in a loud year. And while I get why Josh might lose due to a bad staging, I'd much rather pick "Cotovia" or "Adamastor" than.

I truly believe Fernando Daniel could give Portugal a top 3 if he wins. He reminds me of Slimane : star in his country, a lot of charisma and stage presence live, very strong voice. We are exactly in the same scenario here potentially and Medo could be the new Mon Amour of this year. Mon Amour followed Due Vite and Medo will follow Mon Amour. Portugal could be happy if he's chosen. And Fernando song is as good as both Marco and Slimane entries.
A good example of how far fans delusions can go 🙄
Looking at the lineup of semi 1 and the entire eurovision, I think that Fernando Daniel will easily stand out.

I can totally see it being top 3 with the judges in the final and reharding the televote I just have to say that he and his team were very smart staging it. I can't for the life of me fathom "grandeur", "power ballad" and "Fernando Daniel " together in the same sentence. Are we living in a parallel dimension? Is this the Twilight Zone ? 😱

How can people not understand the storytelling of the staging?

Can someone explain to me how I ended up having to defend an opinion about Fernando Daniel?
Can't you guys just read it and move on?
If you guys can't deal with a positive opinion about Fernando Daniel or Henka's staging or song or whatever, I suggest that you don't touch this treat if Josh wins.
I've seen the same story every single year, it does not matter who will win Festival, people will call the winner pretentious and the :0:s will flood the poll.

Because barely anything is happening? And that stuff could mean a lot of different things.

He's sitting at his desk. Plays guitar for a bit, climbs on his stool (? Is that a talking to god thing?), walks around, goes to his Band. Uhm. What exactly am I suppised to make of that? 😅

Isn't it obvious? Isn't there a thread of cause and effect that you can see flowing throughout the runtime of the performance?

Sidenote, but why do I even have to explain or defend Fernando Daniel? A couple of days ago I called him an idiot and lazy... How did I ended up in this position?

I would never in a million years come up with that storyline you told by watching the staging. Never.

Did FD say it was about writing a song in his bedroom and then coming up on the big Eurovision stage?
What does that have to do with the song anyway?

I'm confused.

Frankly, nobody gives, or will give a toss about the story he's telling. He's a plain little man with next to no charisma, singing about someone he can't manage to be without. Then he made up some sort of creative song writing drama which in the end will propel him to fame. So interesting.
You ended up in this position because you happened to like his live performance, like so many others did.
No big deal 🤷

No, really, and you repeating that it is obvious will not make it so to me 😉

And you do not need to defend him. I mostly answered because I personally do not get the hype about the staging, and I disagree about your Assessment of this vs the Netherlands and (at this point) Czechia. Especially regarding the latter.

I said what it was about in the post you quoted. Did you read it to the end?
If you do not care about reading a full post before quoting it I have nothing else to say...

This is my first pot here and it's been fun reading all the strong opinions about the 2 main favourites. Both songs have their strong and weak points. I prefer "Tristeza" and "Cotovia", because of their elegant melodies and orchestrations, but I can see why many others may prefer "Medo". The running order indicates that all 3 songs will get strong support from one or both sets of votes.

If Fernando wins, will he assume the bill for the staging? It seems that his plan A had a huge prop..

I knew that once Fernando Daniel performed, people would go wild. It will get worse Saturday, if he wins. It seems like many are criticizing him and his song even more, simply because he knocked Josh out of the park after his perfomance.

As for Josh, those who want him to win are basing their opinions on expectations about his performance in Basel, which may or may not come to fruition. That’s fine, I believe they can make the performance better for may, but if Fernando wins instead it will be because he did a better job in the national selection. And that's just the way it is.

My favorite is Cotovia, and I would choose her without hesitation, even if she seems less competitive. That said, I have to admit Fernando has a solid pop song. It might be a little generic (there's nothing wrong with that, even if usually Portugal sends other kind of stuff), but it’s still a great, radio-friendly track with potential. Can we please stop saying otherwise?
