Re: PORTUGAL 2016

What I hope for 2016 if for RTP to take some inspiration from LTV. Latvia failed to qualify for 6 years in a row, but LTV change the NF proccess last year, coming up with a selection criteria that eliminates joke entries and garbage, and that aims to make a song that has quality, that is daring, and that can be an hit. The result was a 6th place, which is as good as Portugal's best result ever!
So hopefully RTP can take a hint from that.

Do you think Portugal will pull an Israel and Serbia and allow English songs to be submitted or for the winning song to be changed to English??

In 2914 RTP stated in the rules that in the NF all songs had to be in portuguese, but for eurovision if the composers wished it could be presented in a bilingual version. Not sure if that was present in this year's rules, but I guess it's not impossible for 2016

BTW I don't think Latvia is an example. Their success is not due to the changes they made in their NF. It's because they finally stopped trolling and picked a proper entry ;)

Can you ever pick something that anyone outside of Portugal would ever want to listen to?

The whole criteria around that acts that were selected to the NF was changed. That's why in the whole NF there wasn't a joke entry

That is true
RTP's composers are in such a disconnected world of their own it's unbelievable. One of them was one of our coommentators, and he basically criticized every song besides :pt:
He even went as far as saying during the SF1 broadcast that Estonia was old-fashioned and that he couldn't wait til the final so Portugal could crush them

Seriously our NF last year was beyond dreadful, and it certainly doesn't help that RTP gives composers only 3 or 4 weeks to come up with an entry!

Re: PORTUGAL 2016

I don't know why Portugal keeps on participating in this manner. I can't also understand countries that say no to English songs. Those are the times we live in. It's great to hold on something and try to keep alive the ESC feeling (it's something that I, personally, do not want to lose), but in the same time you cannot deny the reality, unless you live on Mars. Would it hurt so bad to try, at least once, something different?

I think Portugal needs to try english... or at least bilingual. That's if they want to actually do well at eurovision. they may not care, and just be there for the entertainment show

Shows like Eurovision will always be more fun if your country is in the running though :D

Can't believe this either!!!
That song is BRILLIANT!

It does seem like a bit of a throw together of different songs and could do with a revamp, but it is definitely a lot better than what was actually sent.
