After reading every possible info and opinion about Albert's participation and tying up loose ends, my theory is that while agreeing to show up in Szansa na Sukces, Albert didn't know that he's entering a Eurovision NF. He repeatedly said that when TVP invited him, he said yes because he remembered watching the show as a kid with his Polish grandmother. So, he probably thought it will mean just one afternoon in Poland, opportunity to mention Lake Malawi in Polish TV and making grandma happy. And then he realized it's a trap.

I have also mixed feelings about it. Part of me would love to see him winning just for the whole hilarious story having a proper punchline. Another part of me is scared of what would happen next. I don't think Czechs would have any problem with Albert competing for Poland (after all, it has a precedent in Karel Gott representing Austria and Lenka Filipová once *almost representing* Switzerland - both cases are generally seen as a success abroad, not as some kind of betrayal). However, Poles tend to take both Eurovision and let's say "national proudness" very seriously and I don't want to see our dear little Bertie being hated on the internet like there's no tomorrow. He's too nice person to experience that.

When did Lenka try to represent Switzerland? Did she take part in their NF?

In 1988. The song, eventually sung by Céline Dion, had originally a different - probably more folk-ish - arrangement, so they were seeking a francophone female singer playing guitar. Lenka Filipová was a regular guest of many francophone folk festivals in the 1980s and she also happens to be a guitar virtuoso. So they internally selected her and she was willing to do it, but then communists didn't allow her to go. She sometimes talks about it in interviews, ending the story with a fun fact that Céline Dion chose her as a supporting artist on her Prague concert several years ago, whithout knowing about all this. In my opinion, much better ending of the story would be if Lenka's daughter Lenny decided to represent Czech Republic in the future and win the whole thing for us. Well, one can always dream.

But Switzerland organized a NF that year... http://natfinals.50webs.com/70s_80s/Switzerland1988.html

As far as I'm concerned: anyone but Albert, thanx

I don't want to cross out Poland on my list, but since everything's already decided... The only good thing about "Lucy" is that underrated princess Lucy Ayoub was the inspiration behind it. The song? Blah.

Good news for Lake Malawi's fans at least.

You surely know I like you, so please try not to be offended. But let me say it makes me sad to see your gradual transformation into one of those bigot Eurofans who basically want the same "gorgeous woman shouting high notes" song all over again, year after year, and who are only waiting which country brings it this time, while manifestatively despising everything else. Like the fairy tale prince with Cinderella's lost shoe, interested only in The One whose foot will fit in. Or - perhaps creepier, but honestly even better parable - like Jimmy Stewart in Vertigo, not accepting Kim Novak as she is and "recreating" her appearance according to his fetishes. To each his own, naturally.

I wish you the stunning Snow Queen type of diva you are looking for (again), but is it necessary to spend time waiting for her by throwing "blahs" and "mehs" at any candidate who doesn't fit your pre-ordered archetype? I don't think that "everything's already decided". The probability of Poland chosing wailing female is much higher than probability of them sending Albert. The real question is - Are Alicja's and Kasia's cheekbones pointy enough to match your liking, or should the girls consider a quick plastic surgery to please you by looking more like Cruela De Vil? And are they allowed to sing a song they are comfortable with, or will be anything else than an emotional ballad resulting in another "Blah", "Meh", "Crap", "Poland is cancelled", "Queen was robbed", "0 points" etc.? Sarcasm aside, you used to be much more open-minded, easier to talk with, very funny and much less bitter. If only those times were back. #OpenUp

It's actually offensively boring. :censored: It would be my last place of the year, easily

Actually, I think it's alright for a Polish radio song but I am also very disappointed. I thought that TVP would be really trying but both entries so far are just "there" somehow.
Alicja needs to prove us wrong, pls

I'm actually expecting a ballad from Alicja, so I really hope it's gonna be Albert with that Lucy song, but revamped so it's not as flat as it is now

Hi @Ritararita

Well, thank you for your insight. I'm not sure what to reply to your post, I'm not offended, just stunned by your reaction. If it is what you and maybe others think of me, I do not recognise myself in it tbh. But now I know.

I'm open to virtually any pace or genre of music and never had an obsession for shouting divas. I never cared about looks either, so I'm confused about your statement.

I would say that lately I've noticed that indeed my demands in music have reached new heights, I'm certainly getting overly picky because I like to get a "spark" of emotion when listening to a song, regardless of the genre. I never mean to be rude.

Guess I should start posting less frequently anyway, it's the first time I followed an entire NF season and certainly got carried away. I'm too present and that's understandably wearing, even for myself. I'll fix that.

With that being said, good luck to Polska! Whoever will represent them.

@tuorem I think Ritararita is definitely overreacting, but you do seem to demand a high note in Lina's song for some reason.
Maybe your expectations are too high because it's your first year following the NFs. Most songs won't give you "the spark" but as long as you enjoy it, sing along to it and if it doesn't get on your nerves when it's stuck in your head it's all good.
