Oh how dare you!

He hates this song so much and he doesn't believe people voted for Michał.

People were simply in denial. Michal won the polish NF over heavy favorites, Margaret and Edyta. They were not convinced. Then, his song had so many views in YT. They were still not conviced. He qualified through the 2nd semifinal. They kept denying his potential. He had to shut their mouths by his 222 points in the televoting in order to finally convince them...So funny!

He said it's diaspora!

LOL Where was that diaspora in 2011 when they were last in a semifinal.
6th in Finnish televoting. Apparently there has been a massive migration of Poles to Finland all of sudden.

This is such a gem honestly. Like yeah, it's not very contemporary and I get the old-fashionedness turned some people off. But the melody is one of the most beautiful things I've heard... Especially in the verses, if you ignore the dreary beat (or in the first 30 seconds and in the bridge). His brilliant voice absolutely makes up for it though. And the lyrics are incredibly beautiful too and just SO real. I can totally understand why this came so high in the televote. It just stirs a powerful emotion and I think reaches a lot of people. The composition instrumentally honestly could've been better but aside from that I've come to love this one so much when I concentrate on the lyrics and melody. So deserved placing. :)

Exactly, the arrangements sound a little bit old-fashioned, so what? They don't have any negative impact on the beauty of the song imo.
The melody and the lyrics are indeed so spot-on that it's a delight to hear every note and word, I'm genuinely moved by that composition.
In addition to that, Michal brang it to life with his beautiful voice, he did an awesome job at conveying the very essence of his message I think. This was definitely one of the best ballads this year, and I'm not surprised at all it was ranked above Australia in televoting (sorry, I don't mean to bash Sound Of Silence in every thread, but the fact they performed one after the other truly showed a significant difference between both entries in terms of emotions to me).

To me, the truth is simply: Poland had an old-fashioned song... but a lot of people that watches is old-fashioned, add the fact that this guy is actually a great performer. If he had a more current ballad, he could have had actually a chance to win.

I really don't get what does this "old-fashioned", "outdated" mean. Music is universal, it doesn't recognize the time, location, race. If people can still love and listen to the songs from decades ago, what is the reason or point by tagging today's songs like that? Not that I'm judging. I am just curious, what is behind this that I am unable to see. Because very a lot of people say the same thing for different songs this year. I am just way too stranger to this respect of view.

Our diaspora didn't care back then. Donatan&Cleo made them active but as we all know in 2015 they didn't help Monika so much, so it's still music that counts. Kuszyńska had much weaker performance than Cleo and Michał, who finished both Top5 in televote and Monika only 15th. Actually all points for Monika came from our diaspora and it were 50 points. This is the power of our diaspora - 50 points, not 220 lol .

Today is the 17th of May, Norwegian Constitution Day.
This morning I was on a rooftop terrance downtown in Oslo. Sunny, and with champagne. And people were singing from the bottom of their hearts:
xsing xsingxsing"Ooooo ooooohhhh - tell me black or white... ".And as far as I know there was not a single polish person on that roof.

Believe me: Diaspora was not the only reason why Poland did very well in televotings this year. Even though it of course helps.

I lolled when I saw this gif. Poland was like, "Welp, later Germany!"

When I saw that Poland was one of the top 4 scorers with the televoting I was so happy for him! Yes it was old-fashoined, but his voice pretty much convinced the televoters to bring him up to the first top 10 placing since 2003! He was the biggest surprise of the night and he made his country proud. Congratulations Michal and best of luck next year!

This and Lithuania in top 10 were little bit of shock for me, I have to admit.

Speaking of Poland, there are few things:
- the "ooooooo" sequence you can easily remember. So catchy.
- his hair, styling and voice - you can easily remember it as well.
- there is something old school in this song. I guess many people still like that sound.

This was my bottom 5 in the final. But I am glad he surprised many simply because Poland is not the most successful when it comes to Eurovision.

Saying that you can earn 222 (!) points with diaspora is a NONSENSE. No way!

We simply HAVE TO admit there were many people who liked this song. Case closed.

I didn't really like what he wore, but it helped people remember him.

I thought both this and Lithuania were decent melodies, though I'm always surprised if anything beyond what gets a lot of hype does well these days.

3rd place in the televoting is definetly the biggest surprise for me. Anyway, I am glad people liked this song as I always liked it way more than Margareta, so for me it was a rightful winner from the start :D And congrats on one of your best results ever xcheer

The official video of Cool Me Down has been released. xmusic

The irony that the runner-up in a foreign selection for ESC ends up being the only one from that selection crossing over to other markets... I refer to the fact that this is currently getting airplay on Swedish radio. Sure, it's made by Swedes, but still, that's more than many actual ESC entrants achieve (including the fair bunch made by Swedes).

Also I wonder what Polish radio will do now?, will they start to play Szpak's entry now that he sorta succeeded in ESC? Because prior to ESC radio didn't touch his song (not sure what's happening now though, hence the questions). In the ESC party I attended here in Warsaw no one even ever heard the Szpak song prior ESC and most of the people didn't even know who he was even (I think his fanbase is mostly 14 year emo girls, and there were none of those at the party I attended ). The only two songs from the Polish selection that did cross-over to radio here was Margaret and the "Lustro" entry (the latter one I in fact heard pretty often).

I still think it was a lost shot for Poland not to pick this, but one can just speculate I guess. I partly blame the Polish selection, which was a pretty dreadful production, and the natural lack of public interest in it (I think there was only like a couple of thousand votes in total) leading to the one with the most pushy fan group winning and not the entry with most potential. Oh well, this belongs to the past now and whether "Cool Me Down" would fair better or not is obviously hypothetical, I still think it would.

I liked the Szpak songs more than Cool Me Down in the preselection (which sounds a generic dance song to me).

Well, makes sense tbh since her live performance was dreadful and naive (and wasn't like Lena-naive), but the song is promoted well in studio version.

Interview after Eurovision
I was bored and translated what Michał said
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=w4gypLmsoVE

Journalist: When I was watching with my family I was broken-hearted, your rivals had 300 points, you had only few, what did you feel?
Michał: I didn't care because for me in this contest the most important are the viewers and for them I am top 3. When I saw the table after televote, when we have beaten Australia in televoting, that was special.
Journalist: But it was later, first we had jury votes.
Michał: I wasn't interested.
Journalist: Really? Didn't you as an artist feel that it was a mistake, something is wrong..
Michał: What was wrong?
Journalist: Points, so few...
Michał: This is jury, I don't have any influence, I sang for the audience, not for juries.
Journalist: Well I agree as a journalist the audience is the most important, but sometimes my chef's opinion also, was there any moment you said I give up?
Michał: No because Michał Szpak doesn't give up and fights fair play to the end. Finish was really Grand Final worthy...
Journalist2: ... we jumped from last place to 6th..
Michał: ... (laughs) it was fabulous, everyone's faces in Green Room when they read 4th place - Australia and then everyone looked at me, I thought how? How is it possible? and then 3rd place - Poland. Wow! Incredible.

Margaret is very happy for Michał's success, she said he should've been higher but the must important is that many people fell in love with his song.
