Re: POLAND 2014

Polish diaspora? Really  :p That's over statement. I think they rather don't care about ESC similiarly as most people in Poland :/ Just don't have a habit and need and desire of doing that (voting Poland no matter what we send). I think their only achievement is Riga 2003 when they robbed Sertab(!) herself out of German 12 points  Turkey 10 points, Poland 12 - we've beaten Turkey in televoting, take a note ;D
I don't remember any kind of similiar mobilization..
'

Yeah, Poland is one of those countries that potentially could be one achieving success based on biased diaspora nationalism, but thing is that the Polish diaspora in general are casual viewers just like the rest and many have just the lack of interest in this as the Polish population in general.

I guess Polish diaspora in general is more integrated in the societies they moved to, which is why they act more like casual local viewers rather than the typical diaspora group.

Re: POLAND 2014

Yes, you put it very well. People are very often trying to fit in with new society, new country, culture and don't live in closed circle of people from their own homecountry, some exception is USA and Chicago where in Polish neighborhood you find many people who live there x years and still don't speak English, because they don't really have to, living in hermetic district. In Europe, it's a bit different as I said.
Of course it's good to have broad horizons and open mind in personal point of view but in Eurovision one for Poland - not so good ;)
No discipline whatsoever :p Maybe if we had such, we would be not getting 11th or 13 position is semi-final but we'd be a borderline qualifier, but still a qualifier...
Generally I think it's a side-topic. Before we get to vote, we have to pick our entry and then be proffesional about preparation and promotion and that was often the weakest side of our delegation. The biggest problem is our TV attitude towards the whole things and average viewer opinion on ESC that is very negative because of exposing in medias all the kitchy entries and gimmicks as "Eurovison year 20xx! Look what've got now" instead of promoting good songs.
TVP is also in very weak financial condition so that is another problem...

Re: POLAND 2014

I´ve enjoyed many of the polish representatives. The styles presented have been very interesting. Unfortunately it´s all to blame for the neighbor voting and lack of interest of TVP to organize a decent NF. Maybe if you send Edyta Górniak once more you can have more chances of reaching the final (of course with the right song), after all she gave :pl: its best result ever.

Maybe yes, but if they have money for many of weak/boring programs, participating in Eurovision it's not problem. On the other hand, some fees are horrendous high, but it rather not applicable us.

What?

"A decision regarding a return to the 2014 Contest by Telewizja Polska (TVP) is expected in Autumn 2013."

Re: POLAND 2014

Like every year, and they say no. :(

You say this like we wouldn't participate for 10 years or so

If they say they will make a decision in fall, then it means that they don't rule out participating completely. If they knew they wouldn't want to participate, then they would announce it right now, just like Czech Republic xshrug

I hope Poland comes back. The EBU should be working their hardest to get Liechtenstein, Poland, Czech Rep etc. in before looking to Kazakhstan and so on :p

Well, TVP said the same now for a couple of years, and the "announcements" we got were always confirmations of their non-interest xshrug

Re: POLAND 2014

A little Opole spam...
We had first night of Opole Festival: SuperPremieres and SuperDebuts - the second part with Maryla Rodowicz songs and I think the second part was outstanding, while the first was very, very dissapointing for me, with winner the most (even if I like GolecUorkiestra in general for their past hits) I think they got reward ( "thank you" only televoting :( ) for their name only, because their song is nothing great and nothing new from them in sense of style. There were better songs that could win, but of course the most famous act had to... even when they were not the best... Ok, enough with complaining, let's get to my favs.
1st place for me:
2nd: Very positive tune, nice girl and video was shot 5 kilometers behind my city ;D
3rd: Polish actress I like, Olga Bończyk, very nice, easy-listening song

Second part: Maryla songs in new arrangements xheart I think all 10 performances were very good or great, great concert really, I think Maryla chose them personally and we get quality. I didn't watch Opole in a while but I somehow managed to convince myself to spend whole evening with TVP and I'm thankful. After weaker first part, the second was real treat.
Hope the links work outside PL!
I love this!
Opole Krajowy Festiwal Piosenki Polskiej
And two solo performers
Fantastic performance, touching song and beautiful voice... he was the winner for me, until the real winner came...
Opole Krajowy Festiwal Piosenki Polskiej
Winner Natalia Sikora also winner of The Voice of Poland: E-P-I-C! She has to get big career, really... I just lack words... watch it guys!
Opole Krajowy Festiwal Piosenki Polskiej

If one of them could represent Poland in ESC one day, I'd be more than happy! (OK, Olga is really unlikely ;D but I still like her)

Re: POLAND 2014

Well a Poland in the eurovision final would definitely get points from the UK. Polish is the second most spoke language here, with 400'000 + ethnic poles. If most of those vote on mass for Poland (which i'm sure they would) then that could equal to quite a few points.

Re: POLAND 2014

I don't want us until TVP becomes aware with it's actions around ESC. If we're back and everything is in old way, it's a waste of time :(
Polish fans need: Quick decision and not waiting till November-October. Good selection. Good PR around the contest(!!!), at least attempt to change people's opinion on it like creating some 15-30 minutes videoclips block, playing good (non-kitchy that's what people always whine and bash ESC) songs. There must be a plan.
