I thought this was a very underwhelming opening ceremony ruined by the constant budget changes and cuts. I expected more life energy but instead I got a mix of Brazilian spirit and militaristic punctuality. The shining moments however were the intro, the idea with seeds and the samba medley; the rest was a bit messy... not to mention the volunteers with what seemed to be trash bags pointing the direction for the delegations. But by far the best moment was the Tongan flag bearer and some costumes like Indonesian, Turkmen and Sudan I think... absolutely gorgeous. Also European costumes sucked big time... idk what happened with Swedish and Norwegian design but it sucked, also Swiss sneakers were abysmal. The flame and the finish was amazing, I loved that optic illusion mobile that symbolises sun. Overall great job Brazil, but it could've been much better... it is still one of the weakest opening ceremonies I can remember. :)

Russia was booed at Olympic Games 2016 opening just like in Eurovision! Its seems that the World hates Putin & compañy...

This is quite weird, if you think that Brazil & Russia, are members of BRICS (:br::ru::in:::na:za:)

As if BRICS mean sone kind of brotherhood... In fact Brazilian people are fed up of their politicians so BRICS means nothing.

I loved this opening ceremony, it was different than others, but still very enjoyable. And so happy wih Vanderlei De Lima as the one who would light the flame, will never forget that Marathon in Athens when he got stopped. And the Swedes outfit wow, I just can't stop laughing, I loved and hated it at the same time!

Lovely start, now let the games begin! :D

A rather "weak" start of the German Team BUT no worries, a medal today would have been a big surprise anyway.

I have watched both the women's rifle and men pistols (Great finish by Hoang for Vietnam)

The judo was awesome, i wanted Kazakhstan to take gold at the end but Russia won in the men's -69kg
Argentina was great in the -49kg Judo with the gold,

Men's team Archery was needed to watch becuse of the South Korean supremacy with most arrows hitting 10s and great contest against USA for Gold

I wooted for Hungary in the fencing final against Italy coming from behind to win so gold for Hungary

the next i will watch is the Women's weightlifting and the Swimming 100m and 400m final :3

Pretty good day for :hr: we had our first athlete in final of woman's 10m air rifle, 7th place is a great result for Snježana! :D Waterpolo team defeated USA, our Hrvoje Sep made it to the next round of boxing, Damir Martin in single sculls as well as Sinković brothers in double sculls (looking amazing as ever). Konjuh and Čilić made it to the second round in tennis... can't wait for day 2. xheart

Germany's performances have been rather bad so far.
first of all these embarassing dresses in the opening ceremony (it looks like they had they eyes closed and grabbed random clothes from the wardrobe)
Then our swimmers failed, Andrea Petkovic failed in Tennis, our rowers were meh, our gymnnasts were actually good but quite unlucky, even our football ladies were disappointing tonight. It was just the first day and there didn't happen terrible things (apart of Petkovic being out, but we still have other good tennis players) but it would be a bit typical that most of our athletes underachieve in the Olympics... I hope get proven wrong soon

In swimming, Penny Oleksiak has qualified for the women's 100m butterfly, but she's in tough against the world record holder from Sweden. Eugenie Bouchard won her first-round match in tennis

A pretty ok day for us. The evening swimming had some disappointments but we did moderately well, and first gold of the Olympics is a pretty nice achievement, too. Remind me to name my firstborn daughter Virginia Thrasher - what a god damn name for an Olympic shooter. Biggest xcry1 for us is seeing Venus out in the first round of the tennis, but we still have Serena. Super looking forward to seeing us maybe make a breakthrough in fencing, a fun sport to watch but one that we occasionally have difficulties in.

Latest news from road cycling...

Due to their crashes in the men's road race yesterday, Richie Porte of Australia (fractured shoulder blade) and Vincenzo Nibali of Italy (double fractured collarbone) will not contest the men's time trial, which goes Wednesday morning. Reports are saying that a second spot will become available for Great Britain due to the withdrawals, in which Geraint Thomas will ride alongside teammate and gold medal favorite Chris Froome. A decision is expected to be reached about the vacant spots later today.
