NSC Awards 2009 - Discussion Topic

Since this time of year , is time for the NSC Awards , I thought that it would be best if I open a discussion topic to point out the good and bad things about this show and after all try to improve it.

As it was being said in the forum, we do not need any unnecessary awards (some examples that were mentioned were : Best NSC Smiley and Best Letter). These are totally irrelavant to NSC in my opinion and if people want to have these awards they can do it separately.

The awards that should be given in my opinion are the general ones like :

Best NSC Female , Male, Band
Best Song by Female, Male, Band
Best Video
Best Rock, Pop, Rap, Ballad , Dance song

and that's all I could think of.
If anyone has any good suggestions s/he is very welcome to put them forward.

Regarding the host , we should choose a neutral host who's been here for this last year ( to know what happened etc)

Regarding the votes , voters are greatly encouraged to vote so as to have as fair results as possible taking into account everyone's taste not just a few people.

and no crap awards.. nothing to do with MSN or isketch. just relevant to the board so songs and perhaps a best female (member), best male (member) and best newcomer perhaps?

I'm against the rap award as we simply havent had enough rap songs for it. I'd support a worst song category

First off, I really want applaud you for stepping forward in time and work to make a difference from the start.

The big problem with last year's awards was the lack of participation. Only a handful of nominations and likewise votes arrived, making the awards very biased towards the people who took the time. Too many categories was one excuse, but everyone had the chance to impinge on that before the awards started aswell.
Host-wise, no one is neutral. Few people are uninfluenced by some kind of "political side". However, as I'm sure you intended, it should indeed be someone capable of handling it in an unbiased manner. Something I believe most people in this contest are.

Few general categories is definitely a fair suggestion, and now that we have the ball rolling, I hope we can get an award show working that's enjoyable for all people.

This goes out simply as a general urge to everyone, nothing else. Take your chances to make improvements while you have them, don't come out afterwards with disdain.

Well said. As Jochen said, the main problem last year was lack of people actually nominating and voting in the awards, and so the awards that were given out didn't reflect the general opinion of the people in the contest at all.
Dropping the number of categories down is definitely a good idea, since I agree that last year there were some rather pointless ones. However, i still think we should have a decent number (about 15?). As the host of last year's awards, I know that lots of categories is not just lots of work for the voters; the host also has to be extremely dedicated and hard-working

I hope that with all the newcomers we will have lots of voters and this year's awards will be a success!

Regarding voting for the songs categories for nominations, could I suggest a sort of 'non-compulsory' voting system, in that you can vote for as many songs as you like (up to 10) and if you vote for less than 10, then the lowest numbers (1, 2, 3 etc) are just knocked off from the bottom of the votes

I think people were put off being encouraged to vote for so many songs last time, but at the same time, there are many of us who would like to vote for 10 in ESC-style

Oh, and whoever hosts, make sure you double check your Excel properly when counting votes to make sure it's done properly :twisted: Not speaking from experience or anything, Dan xshhh

There were an awful lot of categories to count. There were only a couple of very minor errors anyway.

And voting for multiple songs certainly doesn't help in that respect. But a good host will welcome the challenge

There's no best nation and best founder of a nation? :shock: I mean, it doesn't have to be only about the songs. And I agree, there should be one for the ones helping with the organisation of contests and such keeping the map or statistics or the wikia in good shape. Plus best edition and best spin-off edition still sounds like awards you'd want to have around. NO LETTERS AND NO SMILIES!!! :evil:

IMO having a most active member will merge all of these. we don't want too many awards

I am glad that we are doing more for the awards then last year!

I agree on the most of what's been said so far, ok if we have one or two "people awards" but I think most of the awards should go to songs!

Most Original Country - would be ok but may start some bad discussion so erhm :?
Best NF - For the country who makes the best quality/most creative NFs
Best Recap/Recapmaker - no need to explain
Most Epic Entry - For any entries that, despite their result, has gained a 'cult' following in NSC or has become legendary in some way

By rap i meant : Hip-Hop R&B and Rap

I support all your suggestions. However, with reference to this particular category I'm doubtful. What does the title as the "Best NSC-player" imply? The greatest result? Or an NSC-player who have put in a true effort to the contest, disregarding all about the results?

In the first case you can fairly easily take a look at the number of victorious countries, and hereby pick the two countries with most victories. Simple as that.

we have 24 awards: what would be best is that we eliminate the worst ones and leave a certain number, or if all are wanted we could have them all as they all make sense, (i think)

By Best NSC Player I mean the person who does the most for NSC, or is optimistic, friendly etc. Basically the best player in NSC

Do we really need awards which are about the player and not the music? Personally I'm very against these popularity contest type of things, it's not what NSC should be about IMO. I'd be far more interested in voting in these award things if they just stuck to the music and didn't have ego-boosting categories for those with the most friends. But that's just my opinion anyway so
