Re: FYR MACEDONIA 2019

To put it plainly we won't be changing the thread title until everything is official (and the EBU go for it also)

This did make me chuckle though...

"Mr Tsipras then gave details of the deal to the Greek president and then Mr Zaev went on live TV in Macedonia, hailing the agreement as historic and adding: "There is no way back.""

Imagine quoting your ESC entry in your statement I mean really

FYROM president is totally against the agreement! There is too much opposition against agreement in both countries.

Macedonia's main issue (other than being a small country without major diaspora or political friends), is not actually the quality of their entries (both of their last two attempts deserved to qualify) but rather the bad staging that made pretty good entries come across as worse than they actually were. In fact their 2018 entry alone was a top. 10 material for me.

Macedonias Mainissue is only the horrible Songs and/or Performances, definitely not the lack of political friends since they are part of the stongest votingblock + Bulgaria and Albania also regularly votes for them. Also they have some (not extreme big) Diaspora in AT/CH/IT. The Problem is that their Entries are usually so horrible, that noone outside their friendzone votes for them. Just look where Kalopi got all her Points in the Semi and the Final and then you see how strong macedonias votingpower really is. Austria, Netherlands, Belgium etc.. for example have much less Votingpower and rightfully get better results because of their Entries.

You're entitled to your taste and opinions, but you also show that you don't "get" this region very well, and yes they have some diaspora but due to being a small country generally their diaspora is not massive and hence not very powerful.

Austria, Netherlands, Belgium get alot of political pity votes from countries and juries that want Eurovision to be a Western affair and turn it into Anglovision as well.

What are you talking? Youre totally wrong. Moldova f.e. has about the same Votingpower as Macedonia and does pretty well (despite being a small Country) because their Songs are mostly good in the Opposite to Macedonia.

Just take a look at the Semiresults from 2004-2007 and then you see how strong Macedonias Votingpower was. Their Points from Yugoslavia, Albania, Austria and Switzerland was always enough to end up as 9th-10th in the Televoting. Macedonia has clearly more Votingpower than AT/NE/BE. AT btw. is the Country with the least guaranteed Points, Macedonia would never get 0 Points in the Televoting if they sent Nathan. What political Pityvotes are you even talking about? Did you watch another Contest than me?

And btw. ATs/BEs and NLs Jurypoints were faraway from being political. Its not their Fault that Macedonia fails to send such professional Packages. Give Cesar Sampson f.e. to Macedonia and he still would do very well with Juries. And AT/BE/NL would fail if they send bad performances/songs on Macedonia-Level. Dont know what youre talking about tbh. And what is even your problem with alglovision? When Macedonia sings in english its ok, but when BE/NL/AT do so, its not?

Just look how clearly Macedonias Entrys fail to qualify (except 2008/09/16 who came at least close thanks to blockvoting) because of tons of 0s from nonrelated Countries and then you see Macedonias problem. Or do you really want to blame their 0s which they get every year in the TV from Baltic, Nordic, Eastern, Southern Countries (basically all Countries except Yugoslavia, AT, CH ,IT, Al, BG ) by the lack of Diaspora in those Regions and not by their horrible Entries?

Re: FYR MACEDONIA 2019

First of all, congratulations to Northern Macedonia for its new official name!

The claim that Austria, NL and Belgium get pity votes from the juries, is just ridiculous. For the same sake, Switzerland and Ireland would be entitled to more pity votes as well. Austria et al are just doing a better job at Eurovision than before, and still struggles in the televote that always goes to the very big fan favourites and of course neighbours, friends and allies.

Rewind 2012, Would you? You and Me, Woki Mit Deim Popo.... and the blindsided ones will see what happened since then.

I think personal taste in music doesn't equal facts, I'd say however that Macedonia has somewhat better voting power than Moldova (diaspora + bloc) but Moldova faired better lately due to better overall entries, I can give you that, but with that said they (Macedonia) are still not some sort of diaspora power house by any means... and maybe you disliked their entries, but I think they did deserve some of those qualifications they got in mid 00's just based on the quality of entries (and in comparison to the competition they faced in the same editions of course), but hey I guess we can go back and forth on this, you will always blame diaspora or bloc voting if a song qualifies that you don't like (from Eastern Europe) and you will applaud "unbiased juries" if a song you do like (from Western Europe) qualifies, so I think we won't really get any further here... xshrug

Let's just settle with different taste, I agree with the general notion in here though that was expressed by most people that Macedonia's main issue is the bad live execution of their entries rather than the entries themselves... surely they had some bad entries also no doubt (quite many in fact)... but if we look at the past decade/s, I'd say the countries you constantly applaud NL / BE / AT had maybe an ever bigger share of bad entries... but hey that's just taste xshrug

I never talked about my own taste tbh, I was just talking about the objective fact that they deservedly failed because they always get like 90% of their Televotes from their Friends and nearly no Points outside (like the past proved). I also never said that Macedonia is a Diaspora-Powerhouse, but they objective have more Votingpower than for example NL/BE/AT who qualified very often since a few years. Also its interesting to see that they started to fail since the much more fairer 2-Semi-System which proved my Point. But yes, I also liked their 04-07 Entries. And btw. Im not western-biased. I dont know why you think so.

And here you go again, "I don't talk about my taste but since I didn't like them it's objective"... oh well....

At least I can partly agree, but not to the extent you put here.

Just listened to Macedonias JESC entry... Wow, this is something I would love to see at adult Eurovision!! x12s Please bring good old balkan ballad back to Eurovision next year! I was missing that kind of music so much during the past editions! The instrumentation of Doma is awesome!
