The people of Macedonia boycotted the referendum (a very low of 36%), which means that the referendum failed. Well done to the people! xcheers

"Czechia" as a name is a damp squib so far, maybe that's why no change has been made in Eurovision yet. It takes more than a bunch of politicians and a registration before the UN to impose such a change anyway: there are the official names, and then there is the people's use.

It will take time before people get used to it. It was the same in the late 90s/early 00s when the short name "Česko" was starting to get used in Czech language. People were mad and reluctant but nowadays no one cares and it's used by everyone.

I see the term Czechia much more often on the internets now, so hopefully it will catch on soon.

But "fyrom" is not official in any of the documents in Macedonia and the people do not want to be blackmailed by Greece and the European "core values" that support them.

When I see that there've been five pages of discussion on this totally not at all contentious topic with a long history of civil and respectful Internet debate

I may sound ignorant but I fail to see why people want to see "Czechia" so badly. Personally, I think that "Czech Republic" sounds so much better in English because "Czechia" gets pronunced the same way like "Check y'a[out]".
In other languages, a shorter version has been used for ages and doesn't sound bad at all (e.g. German: Tschechien, Polish: Czechy).
In my opinion, Czech fans and people should keep that classy "Czech Republic" name.

So apparently Macedonia will be formally North Macedonia prior ESC starts, surely they can't continue with this FYROM mess then in ESC can they? It always was, always will be degrading as eff.

Nothing has been agreed on yet. The Macedonian parliament indeed voted in favor of the change of the country's name but attached to the success of the whole thing, the Greek parliament also needs to vote for recognizing it and it seems that Greece - once again - will be the problem: after demanding Macedonia to change their name for 30 years, it seems that the right-wing politicians of the current government will be the reason for blocking this. The minister of national defense has already resigned and it seems that the whole Greek government is on the verge of falling apart.

at this point, greece needs to accept that they will never be able to make macedonia change their name entirely and macedonia needs to accept that they will never be able to make greece accept just macedonia and that this needlessly limits them. north macedonia is as good as it can get for both.

as for czechia, i still support it and it needs to get popular because LESS LETTERS. if brazil could somehow go down from six letters and still make sense i would be on board. LESS LETTERS ALWAYS.

Coalition with the right wing party is over after minister of defence resigned now but the ruling party has already found enough members from other parties to secure that they will remain in power until October and that the Northen Macedonia name will be accepted by the parliament!

That was freaking close! But the Greek parliament voted in favor of the resolution in the end.

I think we will see North Macedonia in 2020 (the earliest)

As i said earlier it was secured that the goverment had enough members to vote it! If they didn't had enough members then the coalition with the right party ANEL wouldn't end!
