Tuk tuk tuk
naktį į širdį pasibeldžia
ilgesio pilna
atminimų lydima
dvasia

Tu, tai tu, tai tu
seniai matytas veide
Ko juokies lyg klounas
iš mano spindinčių akių?

Sukasi ratu galvoje momentai
bėga bėga ten, kur ir tu
Milijonas rožių lyg sentimentai
skęsta jūroje debesų

Ah…

Ošia jūra nerami
man ašaros akyse
Viskas - jis nebesugrįš niekada
jis atplaukė juoda puta

Pamenu, kaip stoviu Nidos kopų vidury
Ir žuvėdrai moju
toli, toli…

Sukasi ratu galvoje momentai
bėga bėga ten, kur ir Tu
Milijonas rožių lyg sentimentai
skęsta jūroje debesų

Sukasi ratu galvoje momentai
bėga bėga ten, kur ir Tu
Milijonas rožių lyg sentimentai
skęsta jūroje debesų

Managed to catch up on the finalists' performances from the 2 SF, my general thoughts:
  • Ruta Roop: The staging is really pretty. I can imagine how grand it will be on the ESC stage. The song is a nice little tune. But it dragged on quite abit in the beginning, but luckily the staging is a good distraction.
  • Augustė Vedrickaitė: She got the stage presence, and really sells this country-rock-pop track. Her vocals is really good. The staging is simple but very effective. Love they gave the back-up singers something to do and incorporated into the performance. The track itself is decent enough.
  • Ieva Zasimauskaitė: The song is a better track than the one she presented in 2018. But it's still pretty meh, and the performance is such a non-event.
  • Monika Liu: I am getting the major 2017 flashbacks with the new staging. I think the song doesn't need fanciful staging. The song and Monika's stage presence are good enough to carry the entry through.
  • Gebrasy: Mentioned before, the song is not as good as his entry from last year. The staging needs alot of work. I think the lighting is way too bright for such an atmospheric song. Gebrasy's voice has alot of warmth, I feel they should have gone with a much warmer palette (like yellow/orange hues) rather than this white sterile look.
  • Justė Kraujelytė: The staging looks like it comes out from "The Matrix". LOL. The song is OK, she is a good vocalist. But that's about it.
  • Lolita Zero: There is nothing that needs to be changed. It is fine as it is, just that there is nothing much of a song there. It's definitely hypnotic and unique. I can't see how the juries are going to award this when there are much stronger entries/vocalists there.
  • Queens of roses: I am surprised with them going through. The lyrics to the song is shite even though it's pretty catchy. I hope they will retain the original version as the new version lost its original charms. But I love their vocals together, they harmonize very nicely.
Overall, I think the 8 finalists are good for the final. Personally, I would have loved Moosu X, Titas and Benas and Gintarė Korsakaitė to be in the final because I prefer their songs and would happily switched any of them with Ieva.

What is Monika's song about? It genuinely gets me in a trance like state, weirdly mesmerising
Rhyming disappears when translated into English (and sounds a bit weird translated word for word), but I tried my best:

Knock knock knock
At night knocks at my heart a soul full of longing
Accompanied by memories
You, it's you, it's you
Long unseen face
Why are you laughing like a clown
At my beaming eyes

(Chorus)
Moments are turning round and round in my head
They're running there where you are
A million roses like sentiments
Drowning in a sea of clouds

Windy sea rustles
Tears in my eyes
It's over, he won't come back
He swam back as a black foam
I remember how I'm standing
In the middle of Nida dunes
And I wave to a seagull
Far far away

(Chorus)
Moments are turning round and round in my head
They're running there where you are
A million roses like sentiments
Drowning in a sea of clouds
Moments are turning round and round in my head
They're running there where you are
A million roses like sentiments
Drowning in a sea of clouds

The Lithuanian selection process is something I havent followed in maaany years. It's way too long, and I have had problems finding anything to like. And year after year Lihuania has been way down my personal ESC list. It's one of my least favourite countries in the ESC. Maybe even THE least. I did enjoy the Roop. though. A big step up for me. But still I wasnt completely into neither of the songs, and I downloaded neither of them.
So - when I just now was checking the winner of the second semi I had myself a BIG surprise! And as I write I am watching Monika perform for the 4th time. I absolutely adore this! I am a sucker for old stuff, and this is a tribute to the songs and singers from another time. So sexy, so mesmerizing. Please Lithuania!!

In the swimming pool, always stayin' cool
Jumping on the hype train on Monika Liu. There is something really special with this entry : this is intimate, sensual yet mysterical and she carries it so so so well, she has the appearance required for this type of songs. Idk, everything in her performance seems to fit just perfectly. Plus it's not your typical ESC entry, if it goes to Turin it will be really interesting to see how will it work.

Still hoping for a miracle to happen and Ruta Loop winning the whole thing, her song gives me chills! I can't see anything special in Monika's song, for me it screams NQ...

I was disappointed with my dad's reaction though when I showed him Monika Liu singing Sentimenai. He told me that it is 'nothing special'. I naively believed he would love it as he's a man that kinda got stuck in 1994 musically speaking and listens to a lot of old songs - including a lot of granny music from early 60s when he was a toddler, lol . But then again he only seems to like songs that he has already listened 1000 times.

I do wonder what he would think about Lolita Zero or Queens of roses then, lmao.

I hope Monika doesn't win 'cause there are much better songs but would be happy if she does 'cause we'll finally have a song in Lithuanian !

Who know maybe he will surprise you and love it! Never underestimate daddies! My mom actually loves Lolita more than I do - but then again she loves listening to all kinds of stuff, including Heavy Metal. :D

Lolita Zero to Turin! ESC history has shown that countries who take a different route than their previous attempts do well. This is very unique, has so much potential to give a goosebumps effect in a big stage, it sounds very slick and expensive. Kind of reminds me of Norway 2013?
I'm hoping for a miracle. ESC Gods, please listen to my prayers. xpray

I listened to Monika Liu only once to see the hype, and it sounded very Portuguese to me, not in a good way.......
I should give it another listen.

Tumblr, mostly.
I still can't remember WHERE I've heard the riffs of Not Your Mother before. I think Gytis got them off a royalty-free music peddling website? Maybe it's gaming soundtrack? Icr.

Liu gets better with every listen, which is good because I needed a new fave now that Quens of Roses ruined Washing Machine with that shitty remix. I have no idea how well Sentimentai would do in Turin, but it would stand out over the other ballads in that semi (assuming Syro, Markéta and Elsie all make it)
