This NF is such a ride, brilliant. I don't remember the last time I enjoyed a selection that much all the way through. Or maybe it's because I wish this was what Eesti Laul was still like.
1. ANNNA – “Polyester” ... OMG. What is this. It's definitely B****e E****h reminiscent, but damn.... It sounds fresh regardless. It's like when you try to troll, but then accidentally strike gold. I love her moves. I love the sound. It's a vibe. Get this woman to Eurovision.
2. Samanta Tīna – “Still Breathing” ... I'm utterly confused. Kind of fascinated. It's a mess and it's brilliant. I can't say I enjoy that chorus, though I really like that build-up, but I'm obsessed. It just still feels like she's trying too hard, I wish she let go and truly went 'f**k it' and went wild with creativity. This is almost there.
3. Bad Habits – “Sail With You” ... Jesus. That beginning. It's like being punched with Mumford & Sons nostalgia and then stabbed with this man's voice. I find it hard to catch my breath, until that calmly sailing bridge hits, and I can finally process how good this is even if most of the time this type of folk-rock sound irks me. It is a bit cliche, but it could have a real impact at Eurovision as it can create a strong atmosphere.
4. Seleste – “Like Me” ... I unexpectedly find myself to be enchanted. This is good. Really good. It has a really good flow to it. And I'm not put off by her stage presence at all, I quite dig it and her vibe actually, it works with the song.
5. Katrīna Bindere – “I Will Break Your Heart” ... She's hot. So is the song. I hope she gives it more oomph in the final performance though, I keep waiting for it to hit more, she definitely sounds a bit... Weak. And this song requires more in my opinion, because it's theatrical in essence, with more power it could be brilliant.
6. Miks Dukurs – “I’m Falling For You”... This guy's awesome. I know some people have been complaining about how many guitars there seem to be in Supernova this year, but as a guitar player I'm not complaining at all lol, I adore this sound. All in all there's definitely a charming essence in this song, even if it doesn't do anything new and sort of drags along a bit. He's doing his darn best to sell this song, but it's more just dreamy and pleasant and good to have on in the background on a chill evening rather than anything high-impact or particularly memorable.
7. Katrīna Dimanta – “Heart Beats” ... I love that back-up dancer lmao. And I love her, there's a lovely joy and freedom to her, and this whole track. It is highly annoying, crazy addictive, certainly not boring.
8. Edgars Kreilis – “Tridymite” ... Uh. I'm disappointed by him. It's almost good, it almost works (though I feel the song also gets kind of dire by the end)... If you don't look at him. Or listen to him. This song could thrive on a fancier stage with a more enthusiastic performance and better production though. And please to God, lose the breathy singing. Just sing without sounding like you're on your deathbed, please.
9. DRIKSNA – “Stay”.... What is that chorus. I really thought this could be good, but then it turned into an epic mess. It's entertaining, because that chorus is just so confusing. I hate it. And I love it. But mostly hate it.
