Oh, nice that I found this forum Some comment about our local song contest .. Dons was a HUGE favorite here. Bookies before the contest gave 1.25 to Dons, 3 to Olga and 15 to "any one else". Dons song became very popular in Latvia in past few months and also won the prize for the best song in 2013. It has very catchy words in Latvian but he said that he are going to translate it in english if won. Dons had the most votes from viewers but jury gave the first place for "Aarzemnieki" who will go to Denmark.
I would prefer to hear Dons song in english but it is how it is . Anyway you have to give credit to "Aarzemnieki". This "Aarzemnieki" from Latvian means "foreigners". And the singer of this group is a German. The story is really interesting about him... He almost got in love with Latvia in 2000 when he heard Brainstorm song "My star". He came to Latvia to work as a valunteer and learn Latvian language. He bacame popular in Latvia when he wrote song about our last currancy Lats (song is "Paldies latiņam"). Now he sang in Eurovision like a total amateur. Didn't make any show because of lack of money (in my opinion).
In conclusion I want to say that almost everyone is really hating eurovision in Latvia but anyway watches it Ratings are high but level is pretty low and almost all who are taking part are low quality and not popular musicians (ok, except Dons and Olga maybe).

I'm so pissed off this won!! I hate that entry!! You had many better options (as every year), and the biggest monstrosity is that jury wanted this crap! DAMN! what kind of jury that actually is? :? If that is the kind of jury we have in ESC as well, I'm not surprised with crappy results we have in ESC too!

as useual Latvia hasn't got a clue what workes and what doesn't in ESC...... you should think that they with a wining song i 2002 and Brainstorm in had figured it out by now ...... but no .... 2 pts

We have three good entries. 2000, 2002 and 2005. Ok, 2007 and 2008 was quite ok too, but it sucks since then. Low quality musicians and low quality songs. I think we could withdraw soon, these talks are going around every year (beacause of these bad results)

as always some mixed jury.. with some musicians , some well known people who are not musicians and also foreign singers. Honestly dont know how they manage to put Dons in such a bad position that he didnt win

It's actually pleasant. Listening to a recap of the final now, I prefer about three other songs, but at least two had questionable performances (Saule riet & Stay), so I guess it's a nice choice. I'm giving it points, a lot of country songs this year, this one is probably the weakest but it's not competing against the other two in the semis.

Latvia doesn't need to withdraw. You just have to start picking better songs. Every year you have an amazing selection of songs that could do very well in ESC, but you end up picking some random nonsense. Why are you even surprised if you don't make the final with poor selections like this?
