I think that the Kate Ryan of semi 1 may unfortunaly be Hungary since she may have bad vocals...
SF2:Sweden.

I think Hungary will have a strong enough performance to not be a kate ryan. Her song overall seems good enough to get attention.

Croatia however.....I just get the feeling it's a bit too typical of a eurovision song. There's nothing about it that makes it special. It might constantly play second fiddle to many other poppy tracks.

I dunno but the first semi final someone will be upset because most or the favourites are in this group. I think sweden have the potential to fail because he is not the best singer, and a lot of people won't vote for him because of the lyrics. Russia may also suffer as I was reading in the newspaper he had said something homophobic in a interview and had pissed a lot of people off. Anyway if kati wolf doesn't qualify I would question peoples ability to hear who voted, either that or my own hearing lol. I think her song is one of the best eurovision songs ever.

No way. People don't care about lyrics, only catchy music. Look at Fairytale & Satellite.

Believe me if Russia sends 3 mins silence, it'll qualify. Also most ESC viewers listen to the songs for the first time at semis and final. 95% of people even don't know about him being homophobe.

There's a big difference between simple lyrics (Fairytale), eccentric lyrics (Satellite) and just downright stupid lyrics (Popular).

"Satellite" and "Fairytale" also relied on being well-crafted songs, thus their lyrics didn't have to be pure poetry. "Popular" isn't very well-crafted.

well the question was who do you think could be the kate ryan of 2011? So i was giving a honest answer lol. I know the swedish song is catchy and his stage performance is surely o
ne of the best this year, but it does not change the fact that the lyrics send out the wrong message to people, when i first heard the song i thought wtf lol. Anyway, your proberly right going on what most people have voted for over the past few years, but they do have the juries again now, and if they do their job right this song wont get anywhere near any of their points. As for russia, a three minute silence would of been better and actualy show some form of originality lol :p

I have this slight feeling that we will miss the final again this year after the rehearsals.

I still think Sweden has a good chance of getting through to the final. Even with Eric's poor vocals, I think he's popular enough to do well in the public vote. The lyrics are weak, and so are his vocals, but for me, the actual music is the best of the competition, so it more than deserves a place in the final.

Contrary to popular belief, the fans who make up this forum make up a negligibly small percentile of the voting public. I daresay at least 95% of the viewers will not know of him beforehand.

I'd say Norway and Denmark, unless Denmark gets saved by the jury. Norway will do quite far from well with both jury and televote, and Denmark is one of very many similar songs that are stealing each other's votes in semi-2, so Denmark will probably fail to qualify due to its lack of neighbours. At least that's what happened to Sweden last year. And I don't think that Germany will do that well, too. Even though it's my favourite song, I suppose it will struggle to make the top 15. I hope I'm wrong.

Norway isn't a favourite, as far as I know.

No. Sweden was just bad. The juries hated it. Denmark is jury bait. Also, a lack of neighbours didn't stop Denmark from doing quite well to relatively well last year and the year before that.

Yeah, I see your point and I admit you're probably right, but it's just my opinion. I do make a lot of mistakes, especially at predicting, I really know that. I can't even explain these predictions rationally, I just have the feeling that these songs won't do exactly as well as they're predicted to (and odds say that Norway will just miss top10). And this thread is made for that. But thanks for your reply, it's always good to see something from another point of view, isn't it?

I'm not saying you're wrong, just that you're working with the wrong parameters.

A "Kate Ryan" is someone who's a heavy favourite to actually win the entire shebang but that ends up not making the final, not just someone tipped to do well but who does less well than predicted.
