You know the so-called curse about :fi: and :cy: right? Whenever Cyprus qualifies, Finland doesn't (and vice versa). Both countries have never qualifed at the same time!

Fuego is a no brainer qualifier, so you might actually be right!

Unless you don't believe in curses ofc

To be honest I never noticed that so hopefully the "curse" will break :p

on the other hand, which country that could fail to qualify will surprise you the most ?

For me it would be :cy: For me there's no way they're not in the final, but as there is always a fanwank that don't get through, that's mostly the one people won't expect, right ?

Exactly! Remember last year, Finland was the winner of press poll. People were talking about it winning the semi.

I've never understood this because this was such an obvious fanwank.

This year there won’t be a Kate Ryan.

Except for a few songs, everybody will be screaming „Whaaaaat?! This does not pass? How can it be!“ because we have so many good songs that are liked by almost the same amount of fans.
It‘s hard to predict/choose but I‘d say

- Cyprus
- Finland
- Hungary

are songs that don’t make it to the final (and that have, according to polls and reaction in the threads, a big fanbase).

:cz: - I really like, but I'm afraid it will fail with juries and not do so well with televoters.
:fi: :be: - At this moment many people expect them to fail, but that would be unthinkable a couple of months ago.

After watching semi 1, :il: and :fi: have best chances. But I will be wrong for sure.

FUCK YOU ALL who said :fi: when it wouldn't even count since nobody believed in her!!!! SAARA AALTO IS BETTER THAN YOU.

(on the other hand, fuck me for saying :cz: lol oh well)

i think the kate ryan of this semi, if any, was :gr:. yianna wasn't BELOVED or anything, but almost nobody pegged her as dying in the semi and only one person mentioned her here. :be: does NOT count because it didn't shock a single person in europe after we watched that thing. sennek actually left the kate ryan zone before rehearsals tbh.

There wasn't any Kate Ryan in semi 1 really, all the most supported songs got through. The "shocker non-qualifiers" were simply countries that usually qualify and could have still made it somehow.

Yeah; the seven most obvious qualifiers, in my mind, were the first seven to be announced (Czech, Israel, Lithuania, Estonia, Bulgaria, Austria, Cyprus). The last three weren't quite what I was expecting, but they only took spots from my assumed #8-10, and the general consensus was that everything except Iceland and Macedonia stood a decent chance anyway. Given how competitive the semi was, I'd say the results had less surprises than usual.

I noticed that too. Liked that they announced the obvious qualifiers first... not like all the other years "oh surprise, the favourite is always listed in the middle or at second-last, sometimes even last... let's pretend they aren't first in the votes!" The announcing of the last three spots were quite exciting yesterday.

I know it kind of cratered after rehearsals, but could Belgium count?

as i said people started doubting it early enough in the process that it doesn't count. we need a new category for that since it's so frequent now. mei finegold 2018?
