I remember a tweet read out in UK's coverage of ESC, along the lines of 'Lithuania made my dog run out of the room, Israel made me run out of the room!'

#POL Poland - A reasonable ballad, but I'm not convinced it's a winner. What was the significance of the tree on the background screen for part of hte song, and the dancers with the branches? There was a burst of fireworks near the end, but I'm not sure they were needed in this style of song.

#MLT Malta - A ballad with a beautiful introduction, but I think the rap totally ruins it.

I’m not a fan of Malta’s song, but I think the staging really made it work!

We've had Germany, Georgia, Poland and Malta so far. 4 songs in, and I don't think we've seen the winner yet. Still there are another 15 songs to go.

I haven't heard any of the songs pre-show, so far, Malta's the runaway winner in my books.

#ITA Italy - Italy won the adult ESC earlier this year with a hard rock / heavy metal song from Maneskin. They've gone for some sort of power ballad with elements of hard rock / metal thrown in for good measure in JESC 2021. Not my cup of tea, but I expect this will get plenty of online votes from those who enjoy this sort of stuff. A definite left-hand side of the scoreboard contender, even if it doesn't win.

That staging just might have saved Bulgaria from last place

#BUL Bulgaria - A beautiful ballad, well sung by a girl and boy with beautiful voices. The star patterns on the background screen enhanced the song. This could be a winner.

#RUS Russia - An upbeat ballad, well sung. It was clever how they had the children on the static bikes and the moving building images on the background screen. This could do quite well.

they couldn't fix her vocals fully. Even when she's talking, you can hear that she's still ill. Nevertheles, it was her 2nd best performance overall (the jury show was better, imho). The camera work could have been better, but it's the weakest link for almost all entries this year.

#IRE Ireland - A lively entry, but it's questionable whether it'll succeed or fail.
