Re: Japan | 日本 | WV88

I also have a Queens of Enka NF lined up, it could be either 89 or 90. I have 2 solid competitors, researching a couple more

Re: Japan | 日本 | WV88

About the artist: Takanori Arisawa
One of the most prolific Japanese composers, he began his career in 1980 as composer of the song "Shinjuku Transfer", which was recorded by the choral group SOAP. He also composed music for many TV commercials and drama series.

Aside from composing the music for the anime Digimon, he is best known worldwide as the composer for the Sailor Moon anime series. He wrote the music for all five seasons of the anime, all 3 feature films, several video games and a few of the SeraMyu (Sailor Moon musical) productions. He passed away in 2005 at the age of 51.

2 pieces in mind
I have 2 pieces in mind to send as the Japanese entry for WV88. One is iconic, literally any Sailor Moon fan would know from the very first note. The other is an emotional piece from the Sailor Moon S movie

Re: Japan | 日本 | WV89: Queens of Enka NF

I will be staging the first Nihon'nouta notatakai (Japan Song Battle) in the hopes of finding an entry for WV89. Three queens of the Enka genre will be taking part, I should have all the details ready in the next day or so.

What is Enka by the way?
Enka is is a genre of music in Japan that is considered to resemble traditional Japanese music. It often takes the form of a sentimental ballad, but some enka songs can be lively in composition as well

Sayuri Ishikawa - Tsugaru Kaikyo Fuyugeshiki

Bio
Sayuri is one of Japan's best-known and much-loved artists of the Enka genre. She has performed in NHK's year-end special the Kohaku Uta Gassen since 1977, holding the record for the most appearances in the show by a female artist.

Her entry for WV89 was first released in 1977 and is considered to be her signature song to this very day. It is the most popular of her career together with "Amagi-goe" (which Ichiro Suzuki used for one of his at-bat themes during the 2008 MLB season)

Kaze no oto ga mune wo

Aa tsugarukaikyou fuyugeshiki

Translation
Since I stepped off the night train
departing from Ueno,
Aomori Station was within the snow
In the crowd of people returning north,
everyone is silent.
I hear only the rumbling of the sea
I, too, ride alone on a connecting ferry.
I gazed at the seagulls that seemed
like they would freeze and cried.
Ah, the Tsugaru Strait winter scenery…

Look, that is Cape Tappi, at the outskirts of the north.
People I do not recognize point their fingers.
I tried wiping the window glass
that my breath clouded up,
But I see only haze in the distance.
Goodbye, my dear. I am going back.
The sound of the wind shakes my chest,
and all I can do is cry.
Ah, the Tsugaru Strait winter scenery…

Goodbye, my dear. I am going back.
The sound of the wind shakes my chest,
and all I can do is cry.
Ah, the Tsugaru Strait winter scenery…

DALI - Moonlight Densetsu

The iconic theme song for Sailor Moon! Used in the classic and R seasons as well as the Sailor Moon R movie

Video

Lyrics
Gomen ne sunao janakute

Nando mo meguri au
Seiza no matataki kazoe uranau koi no yukue
Onaji kuni ni umareta no
Mirakuru romansu
Shinjite iru no mirakuru romansu

Translation
I’m sorry, I’m not honest
I can say it in my dreams
My thoughts are about to short circuit
I want to be with you right now

The moonlight makes me want to cry
I can’t even call, it’s midnight
But I’m so innocent, what should I do
My heart’s a kaleidoscope

We are led by the light of the moon
We meet by chance again and again
The countless shining stars above us foretell love’s whereabouts
Born on the same Earth
A miracle romance

Just one more weekend together
God, please give us a happy end
In the present, past, and future
I’ll always be in love with you

When we first met, that so very dear
Glance you gave, I’ll never forget
From the millions of stars in the sky, I can find you
Changing coincidences into chances, I love this way of life

A wondrous miracle approaches us
We meet by chance again and again
The countless shining stars above us foretell love’s whereabouts
Born on the same Earth
A miracle romance
I do believe in that, a miracle romance

Re: Japan | 日本 | WV91

Well, that didn't go as well as I hoped. Seeing one of the most iconic anime themes ever come second-last in the semifinal is really heartbreaking, as it is also a song I really love - it's probably bad luck and a bad draw in my semi

After sending many female artists, I'm looking to send a male artist or group. I have several in mind already, so I hope at least one of them will work out

Translation
Raise your flag, the only one
Don’t look back!
You don’t let me down
Rushing out to rising sun
Nothing but the heart of crown

That day, we were dancing in
ONE TWO STEP
ON & ON, keep shaking
In TWO-FIVE-ONE, beat it loud
Spreading even father
You're the one

You were always
Laughing, crying and singing
until your voices went hoarse
Engrave them ONE BY ONE
Hoping to always be brave

Even if this world was full of distortion
beyond you could ever imagine
Let's starting over
Right beyond there

Put your hands up, don't let them down
Put those tears away
It's fine to raise your voice loud
Raise yours only flag
Don't be afraid of tomorrow
With your never changing pace,
You keep on

Sing on!
Move on!
Reach out!
You're the one

You were always yearning
For something sweet
yet a bit bitter
Facing to the outside of classroom
And that feeling kept swelling even bigger

"This is your real self."
You don't need someone
to decide on that
Turning over
With your own true face

This youth keep on moving
towards the unlimited ONE WAY
Put your palms up high to the sky
It's fine to speak up your yearning
To reach the ONE DAY
beyond the morning sun
Let's push ourselves
a bit harder than usual
And I'll present a bouquet of flower
only for you
You beam on

Laugh hard!
Spring out!
Dance on!
You're the one

A step that once went back
to the starting point
will be moving forward
far way stronger than before

Put your hands up, don't let them down
Expose those tears away
It's fine to raise your voice loud
Don't lose the dream you want to realize
Until the day you could shine on
With your never changing pace,
You keep on

Sing on!
Move on!
Reach out!
You're the one

Re: Japan | 日本 | WV92

Well, I'm going to give this at least one more try. And I've decided that since Wagakki Band didn't get their full shot in Melbourne, they will be Japan's representatives in WV92 - let's just say they have some unfinished business to attend to. Their song and a backup entry has been decided by the Japan Consortium

Ooh, some more from Wagakki Band. There are another two or three of their songs that I'd considered sending myself, so I'd love it if I was able to support one for this edition!

Fight! Katsu! Go!

Translation

Fight! Katsu! Go!

Everyone gets scared
There are even times when they want to run away
They lock away their hidden courage

Hang their head in shame and come to a stand still
Once again, pretending that they don’t see
The fallen tears not drying

Dive deep for the will to not give up
The fist that you balled up that day
Believe in it again and break through

This time you will definitely be revived
You should challenge yourself, don’t let it get away
Let’s repaint the sky above us

If you are aiming for a total victory
Love the bad parts of yourself
And move forward

Wondering to yourself about your weakened heart
Setbacks will dim your confidence
Even knowing this, try again

You took it all in and
When it was revealed, you realized
That courage was your strength

You are never fighting by yourself
No matter what you encounter, you are always supported
So, come on, do your best

Failures are good in a revival
Focus only on the successes and
Knock down all of those walls (now)

Rise up, develop, get back in there
But without losing spirit,
Run after your dreams

This time you will definitely be revived
It’s time to put in a great effort
Without losing your way, (ready, set, go!) soar!

Complete devotion, encouragement
If you try your hardest, good things will come

So let’s sing one more time!

This time you will definitely be revived
You should challenge yourself, pull in your dreams
Pry open those closed doors

If you are aiming for a total victory, love the bad parts of yourself
And let’s move forward together

Fight! Katsu! Go!

Re: Japan | 日本 | WV92: Wagakki Band - Kishikaisei

Unfortunately, another flop. I have decided to return to my homeland of Canada to see if I can recapture the magic I had there.

So as I leave this post, I will leave you with one last thought...

Happy Na-ru! (Get happy!)
