I think Marco Mengoni has so many great songs but his Eurovision picks are usually underwhelming, at least to my taste. I have a lot of songs by him that I listen to a lot, and some of them are even in my top 10 of all time most listened songs. But why he chooses such ballads for the Eurovision stage, I have no idea.

Ma Stasera and Una Parola are some of my favorites

Technically, he didn't choose his songs in mind for ESC, it's for Sanremo. Although he has the option to go to ESC with a different song.

Personally, I think it's fine, he improved his results and got universal support from both televoters and jury.

They got in Turin completely unprepared, mostly Blanco, ruining the magic of the sanremese version they were able to show.

After the last three years run with Zitti e Buoni, Brividi (the staging was beautiful, the issues were with M&B) and now Due vite, I think we can conclude that the Italian delegation finally have learned how to stage an entry well consistently. Hopefully this means the days of Occidentali's Karma and Soldi style disasters are over.

I think I couldn't even possibly rank them in a satisfying order for me, since their return Italy has been my favourite ESC country by far. Buuuut let me try as well!

01. 2015 – Grande Amore: Probably why I feel so strongly about Finland being robbed this year, they were the first ones. Just totally blowing me away as the last performance in that year's GF. True king shit.
02. 2018 – Non Mi Avete Fatto Niente: Was so proud that my country's audience gave them 12 points after Italy got shafted by the jury once more
03. 2021 – Zitti E Buoni: One of the rare occasions where my favourite actually wins it all. Besties – also over 100p disparity between audience and juries again...
04. 2017 – Occidentali's Karma: Butchered live performance or rather staging, but studio version still holds up exceptionally well
05. 2020 – Fai Rumore: His performance in 2022 is just magical!
06. 2014 – La Mia Città: Another butchered live performance, but studio record still rocks
07. 2022 – Brividi: Also live a question mark by M., but otherwise such pretty harmonics
08. 2019 – Soldi: *clap clap*
09. 2012 – L’amore E Femmina: Stylish and catchy af, still sounds great 11 years later
10. 2016 – No Degree Of Separation: Could've done without the English part, liked it better in full Italian
11. 2023 – Due Vite: It's cute, but not quite captivating to me. Live version elevated it a lot however!
12. 2013 – L'essenziale: See above
13. 2011 – Madness of Love: Well, it's jazz. You either love it or you don't, unfortunately I am the latter in most cases

I give you Occidental's Karma which was just a mess but everything about Soldi was just perfect and iconic and deservedly slayed in the voting.

Considering how the things turned on, Marco getting a fantastic 4th place, do you think Due Vite was the best option? Could Lazza Madame or Elodie have reached a better result than Marco? Which means at least a 3rd place because the first 2 places were untouchable.
Personally I've always thought that Marco was the best option, not only because I love the song, but also because of his charisma and experience.
Madame or LAZZA, mostly acclaimed by the fans here, could have shown another side of Italian music scene ( I loved both of them) but is more important to reach an excellent result or being fans favourites but getting nothing at the end ( Slovenia Austria France Spain UK Czechia)?

Leave the song away, he just delivered. I watched his live again minutes ago, pure emotion even after so many times rewatching it. The studio version is not so impactful for me, but when I saw him at the night of the Grand final, goosebumps all over. If he was more hyped by the bookies he could finish top 3. Israel deserved it though. Anyway, extremely good job, Italy! My favorite country even outside the contest.
