I read your messages this morning and realized that the truth lies somewhere in between. Before I get to the heart of the speech, I want to take a step back. The selection for this Sanremo Festival was not made, as every year from 2011 to today, to find the winner for the ESC but to find a valid artist who can make a good impression in the ESC 2022 (debunking the current " host country curse"). Remember we need to invest in ESC 2022! Do you really believe that Italy could afford a second victory without batting an eyelid? Sanremo 2022 also suffered a slight decrease in quality due to the ESC 2022 in May
Continuing the reasoning on the musical side, listening to all the songs it is not possible to glimpse the usual pattern: the "strongest song", "the main competitor" and "the outsider" while the rest of the songs, good or not, are needed to fill the stage
I think that on the one hand this is a symptom of fatigue and obviously a clear desire not to aim for the victory of the ESC 2022 while on the other hand it is synonymous with a better overall quality where there are no clear winners but the competition is open to different artists
Revolutions, like that of the Maneskin, shatter the cards on the table
In this climate of "musical instability" there is no certain victor, anyone can aim for the throne
The love and the few criticisms of some eurofans have made me understand that this year they have understood that Italy may not be a danger
(even if some would not want to see it in the "Top 10" because H.P. Lovecraft would never stop bragging
). However, let us try to evaluate things calmly and objectively. I agree with Ajeje Brazorf when she wants to imply that the ESC will not have 40 higher songs (some could even do worse) and I add that the ESC can win anyone (honestly some of you would have given Sobral, Jamala and Netta for winners?
) . I do not agree with Ajeje Brazorf on one thing, apart from the rankings of the first two evenings (which leave the time they find), the songs like "Soldi", "Fai Rumore", "Zitti e Buoni" were already clearly in the heart of the fans and all, more or less, we were sure of their chance of victory.
Now I will offer you a partial ranking of the songs that, in my opinion, are candidates for victory
:
1) Mahmood & Blanco - "Brividi":
Listening to their song again and observing their interpretation I can see their strength more clearly. The piece is deep, the symbiosis between the two singers is superb and Mahmood's voice is truly a unique instrument that can give light and soul to everything he sings. In my opinion this piece upsets the ears of eurofans a little because it has an almost jazzy composition, it follows a well-defined path but through roads that at first glance seem improvised. Isn't all of this equal to the chills we feel? The chills arise from an emotion but rise up our back following unique paths.
2) Irama - "Ovunque sarai":
I apologize to everyone who had to read my fit of anger last night. I still had in mind the sparkle of the "Genesi del tuo colore" and I was not at all used to seeing a "mature Irama". The song is powerful, well constructed and sung. Together, or perhaps even more than Elisa is the song that would not suffer an English translation. Irama could easily contend the victory against Mahmood & Blanco.
3) Elisa - "O forse sei tu:
Honestly, I have mixed emotions. Elisa's vose is exceptional and her songs are always very sweet and deep but I lack "a little substance". It seems to me like I am reaching out to a sweet cloud that I clearly cannot grasp. She too can play her cards for victory. Let's see what happens.
4) Fabrizio Moro - "Sei tu":
It is really strange that the strongest songs of this year all recall "the Italian romantic composition" albeit in a modern way. Never underestimate Fabrizio Moro! As a composer and lyricist he is the best of all competitors. He manages to turn every song he touches into magic. The song is powerful and I believe that on the ESC 2022 stage it could remain etched in the hearts of eurofans. Do you remember Sobral? Do you remember Schulte? Fabrizio Moro has the chances of him.
Then I want to mention Donatella Rettore / Ditonellapiaga, La Rappresentante di Lista and Drargen D'Amico who have nice songs with a strong "catchy element" that makes many eurofans drool
And finally, Iva Zanicchi and Massimo Ranieri who brought a wind from the past to the Sanremo stage that suggests how much the melody, beyond many catchy songs, will always remain eternal
However, all of them have no chance
Those who have focused on catchy will not be helped by Sanremo because we are aware that these are songs that would suffer a lot at the ESC where there are many nations that have a more consolidated "catchy history"; Instead Iva and Massimo will never be able to win because, even if pleasant, they could not withstand the impact of a purely youthful and lively competition like the ESC. Their habitat is the theater, that of the Ariston, where singers like them can still give a delicate, courteous and classic emotion.
The rest of the songs, some I even liked, can be thrown a little in the plastic, some in the cardboard and some in the degradable food. Always remember to do separate waste collection!
