Sanremo 2021: Vote for YOUR favourite!

Loro non sanno di che parlo
Voi siete sporchi, fra’, di fango
Giallo di siga’ fra le dita
Io con la siga’ camminando
Scusami, ma ci credo tanto
Che posso fare questo salto
Anche se la strada è in salita
Per questo ora mi sto allenando

E buonasera signore e signori
Fuori gli attori
Vi conviene toccarvi i coglioni
Vi conviene stare zitti e buoni
Qui la gente è strana, tipo spacciatori
Troppe notti stavo chiuso fuori
Mo’ li prendo a calci, ‘sti portoni
Sguardo in alto, tipo scalatori

No

Io ho scritto pagine e pagine
Ho visto sale, poi lacrime
Questi uomini in macchina

Tu portami dove sto a galla
Che qui mi manca l’aria
E parla la gente, purtroppo
Parla, non sa di che cosa parla
Tu portami dove sto a galla
Che qui mi manca l’aria
Parla la gente, purtroppo
Parla, non sa di che cazzo parla
Tu portami dove sto a galla

The only thing I'm f***ing, is stupid
I partially agree with you. It is true that music and artists are more appreciated in their own country and in neighboring countries because they reflect the tastes and habits of that geographical area but, especially in this globalized era, I don't believe in these conservative and marked tastes. Furthermore, subjectivity aside, objectivity comes into play here; if a music is beautiful it is beautiful regardless.

Sanremo this year does not have many "Mediterranean" sounds (unless indie or rock is thought to have originated in Italy - here the British and the Americans would rise up). It must also be said that, especially Sweden, it should be the most open of all nations to "new sounds" and have a little broader tastes. Why? Aside from immigration (now a current topic in every country), it doesn't seem to me that you have brought "Swedish folk music" or references to it to the ESC, at least lately. Your sounds, which I appreciate, range from Pop to Dance up to limited R&B. I want to add another thing too! Italy is a Mediterranean country, you are 100% right, but we are the nation that most of all reflects European culture today. Our country, after the collapse of the Roman Empire, has always been subject to invasions and has always been divided into many different cultures. You can see it in our kitchen (from strudel to couscous), in music (from almost Balkan to almost Arabian rhythms) to art (from Gothic to Arabic). In our DNA we have a piece of each of you. We are much more alike than you think. No, SwedishFailurez. The difference is in the eyes of those who want to see it.

Tomorrow morning, we will all know who the winner is and I hope he will be a good representative for the ESC. Then anyone can win. Music is not an instinct of conservation nor an extension of the war but joy, sharing, the desire to soar and to let oneself be transported into magical worlds where languages vanish and emotions speak. Um ... my book costs 15 euros ... you can go to the cash desk now. After that, I'll sign it for you! I'm kidding! It has been nice talking to you xlove
A well-written reply actually! You have a utopian view of how Eurovision actually is supposed to bring people together and that we as a continental unity do have a lot in common which I really like. xlove

Globalization does indeed make all kinds of music much more accessible even in the most isolated places, the internet is a huge contributor to that. What I wrote about how we (swedes) perceive "Mediterranean" works of art is ore due to the context of how my taste in music plays a part in social IRL situations (especially in small suburban towns). If we take niche genres like Japanese City Pop like this which potentially can reach millions of views on YouTube. Even by that fact, an IRL-friend of mine could still find that song alien because he isn't used to music outside his' comfort zone. It really does play into your quote "The difference is in the eyes of those who want to see it" which also means that some people still aren't open to different kinds of music.

However, as we live in the digital age as we spend a vast majority of our lives on the internet, we can find like-minded people like you and me who share the same interests. As we speak, I have more in common with most people in this forum with common interests than with friends in actual IRL social circles.

Well, I partially agree with the ancient-meltin pot italian culture. Yes, we achieved the unity less than a couple of centuries ago, but our taste is very distinctive and peculiar, in music as well.
Italy is a very conservative nation nonetheless we have a frolic underground music scene that cover severals genres. Coming to Sanremo, the Festival is the example of our conservativness, from the artistic director to the audience. Italy is also fond of feuds, the most experimental and progressive audience wouldn't wacth and vote for Sanremo artisits, the same people who love to critic the same festival and all that comes with and in it, so that we take long to chage as we took so long to have people like Mahmood (whom i like) or like Famsa/Random (whom i find usless in the italian music scene).

My point is, even if we might like anglophone music ad "modern" music, Sanremo and its juries still look back to our golden age singer-songwriter like de Andrè, Dalla, Battisti, Battiato etc. That quality is hard to find today, especially the poetic lyrics of those times.

This said, i'm preperaing myself for 6 hrs of festival.. wish me luck for tonight, o_O

Who do you think will make it? :) As for me, no clue at all. Could be like up to five artists.
I only think Ermal's advance must be huge at this point, Willie probably also has some cushion and the 3rd to 8th place must be very close (based on how they placed last evening and how that changed the overall ranking).

Willie doesn't really have that many views. I think he won't make it, eventually. Irama, Annalisa, Maneskin, Arisa all do much better on youtube. Arisa would still be a surprise, so for me it's two of the other three. I felt well about Irama before, but his position is still the lowest.

So my guess now is Ermal, Annalisa and Maneskin :)

Usually I find my favourite(s) in the San Remo festival. I havent this year. Maybe I havent given all the songs a real chance. There are good songs sure, but so far none have really grabbed my attention and aspired for a 12p.
So I'll just check in on the results tomorrow...

This competition is the best. Good songs, good acts, awesome stage... and nontheless a LOT of suspense, because who knows how the general classification will change tonight.

I think Francesca & Fedez are out of the league. They will be strong on the televotes for sure, but not enough to enter the top 3.
Ermal and Willie seem to have a step forward above the other ones, so i think the final slot will battle between Irama and Maneskin which both should get a lot of televotes due to their popularity above youngsters. Either way, i'm totally fine with both of scenarios i'm talkin, so anyway i have my fingers crossed for at least these top 3.

Ermal Meta is by far the contender, but how will the televote go ? Maybe he can also fail at 4th place in the classification by the very end, since i heard Amadeus telling that the gap between the 15 first slots were really tiny... Thunder and voting, it's getting exciting !
About Ermal's song... even though i LOVED Non Mi Avete Fatto Niente, i'm not as hyped about this one. He's an awesome singer as usual, but personally i can't fully connect with this song, idk... Yet if he wins i don't mind at all, he fully deserves it.

Gosh, i have Renga's sempres stuck in my head right now, i need halp.

So over 5 days I have my 4 favourites and woudn't mind to win it)

Honourable mentions:
Annalisa-Dieci (I think its her time to represent Italy...she been great since day one but sadly im not big fan of song but she is amazing)
Francesca Michielin & Fedez-Chiamami per nome ( Well great song but missing a hook,if this picked as winner or representing Italy make the staging more visuals than them standing but yeah)
Madame-Voce (Young and fresh and amazing song)

So my 4 favourites are:
Fasma-Parlami
Måneskin-Zitti e buoni
Irama-La genesi del tuo colore
Ermal Meta-Un milione di cose da dirti

Finally managed to find the Spotify playlist that contains all the 26 entries (but 1 is geo-blocked but that song didn't spark my interest in the 'live' performances so I don't think I am missing much).

So as per the studio versions, my top 5 are:

1. Francesca Michielin & Fedez - Personally I feel this is the most accessible and radio-friendly track in the competition. I think it will do well in the ESC contest if selected.
2. Irama - Not gonna lie, the music video elevates the song for me alot. It easily can be the theme song to an action movie. It's very modern and I feel this song is made for the big stages especially when the pre-chorus and chorus kick in. It's pretty anthemic.
3. Colapesce & Dimartino - Really enjoy the retro influences in the song. You can easily vibe to this.
4. Max Gazzè & Trifluoperazina Monstery Band - I thought this song is really unique. I really like how the verses go.
5. Annalisa - A contemporary ballad and personally my favourite ballad in the contest.

Gosh, i have Renga's sempres stuck in my head right now, i need halp.
You don't say. It's so catchy in a weird way especially the way he sings it.

I wanted to do a full ranking before tonight and so I've listened to the studio versions of the songs to see if my opinions changed with any of them, and that certainly happened. As I suspected, I really like Francesco Renga's Quando trovo te. Live (at least on that first night) was painful but it's a great composition. Super catchy. Coma Cose's Fiamme negli occhi I'm also appreciating a lot more in its studio version weirdly. I'm getting some Velvet Underground vibes and in my world that's the Holy Grail of comparisons to make. Some songs meanwhile are starting to lose their spark on repeated listens: Chiamami per nome and Zitti e buoni unfortunately.

It's a strange year of Sanremo for me as I feel like I'm giving out good scores for the quality of the entries rather than how much I personally enjoy them. Last year I had nine songs I genuinely loved and that got full marks from me. This year there's just two. What a two they are though but they're hopeless 🥴 Understandably so with Max Gazzè, utterly confusing with Gio Evan. It's so sad that I can't even dream about him winning tonight because of what was done to him throughout the week

I would say Irama is the best choice for Eurovision. He'd do very well. I'd quite like to see Måneskin win cause then we'd have some actual rock & roll at the contest but at the same time it would be irritating to see them finish around 19th. Ermal would get Italy a mid table finish at best. I just feel like your other ballads have had more oomph. Naturally lots of quality music on offer but there doesn't seem as many choices for an amazing result at Eurovision this year. I just keep homing in on Irama when thinking of who has potential and he has tonnes of it.

Well, in my rankings 6 isn't bad. It means I respect the song at least even if it's something I'm not particularly enjoying much. 5/10 is average and when you go below that is when a song is standing on dodgy ground.

Madame's song was better in the studio version actually. I gave it an extra mark. There's one song by (or rather featuring) her that I really like. @Krishoes introduced me to it a while ago. I'd 10/10 this xheat

Yeah I know dear hunty...
It is the same story every single year for majority of us.. This festival simply has that strict and brutal ranking and voting..into your face and lasts few evenings... xcry
In the end it just ends that typical SR melancholic touch.. xheart
I see how RainyWoods suffers with his fave Gio Evan - "Arnica" and its ranking.. :(
