I love the song because it's very refreshing and current but still retains its ethnic/Italian sounds. Plus the message is great (personal but relatable).
Mahmood is a competent performer but people may not be able to connect with him. I think Italy has a great chance of doing well again this year. A possible winner, likely.
But I still need to see what the rest of the entries are before I cast my judgement on whether this will be the definite winner.
This is currently my favourite entry this year as an overall package. I wish him best.

The SanremoYoung perfomance has a different composition for "Soldi", which I think is worse, adding too much to the melody. I hope this is not included for the ESC edit...

I suspect because of the 'live' instruments that have sort of caused the change. Hopefully there will be minimal changes to the ESC edit (if there is one) as the song is perfect as it is.

Okay, I've been a good lurker and kept quiet until now, but I've had enough I guess. 💁
Can we just STOP thinking of Italy as the "big fave" or whatever? It. Is. Not. I don't want 2017 all over again.

Soldi (just like most other italian entries since our comeback) wasn't made for Eurovision at all, It's made for our own internal music market and you can see with you eyes it freaking worked. Platinum disc, more than 20.000.000 streams on Spotify breaking into global top 50, 40 mln views on YouTube. But I think about 80% of these are from Italians (remember Ciccio Gabbani? Same). We are literally getting bombarded with this song on the radio, we see Mahmood's face almost every day on tv, he even made it to the cover of Rolling Stone Italy after being almost completely unknown until Feb 9th.

But what about ESC? Nobody here cares about that. He himself said he just wants to go to have fun and has zero expectations about this. Rai just can't give half a shit about Eurovision, it definitely doesn't want to host and it's doing everything NOT to win this year as well by not promoting ESC or Mahmood in the least. I suspect the @ EurovisionRai Twitter account is not even exactly aware of Alessandro's existence while all the other countries are celebrating their own participant, and the Eurovision yt channel is still missing Soldi's video one whole month after he won sanremo (the second problem here. We need a different contest to decide our ESC entry but pffft can you imagine Rai caring about that?)

All this to say: forget about Italy. Being the "favourite" is a burden we don't want to carry, and it's not true anyway. Point your eyes somewhere else please (Russia's entry is getting released soon, right?), because we're not going to win this contest anytime in the near future.

I liked Eurovision better when I watched it on RSI and I didn't have to worry about our stupid national public broadcaster being an asshole as always. Bye.

I think you are completely wrong. Italy will win Eurovision very, very soon. Actually, it´s been close for you several times already, I don´t really get what you said. If it´s one of the big favorites is because EUROPEANS like it, and obviously Italians as well, otherwsie it shouldn´t have won San Remo.

Because nobody knew he even existed and Ultimo had a swarm of fans ready to vote for him!! And also, this is totally not a sanremo-like song and literally no one was counting on it to win. And you know what? We're freaking happy he did. We've found our new golden boy... That doesn't have anything to do with ESC.

Believe me, Rai would kill not to host this contest. Too much effort.

I get what you are saying since similar things about "not wanting to host" has been said about Greece a lot this whole past decade also...but i honestly believe that it's gonna be hard for you guys not to win this year. Like, they are gonna have to really try hard to mess this up

Other than Iceland (which is just not my type of music) no other song imo (out of those released so far) makes a similar first impression (which is what you need) quite like Soldi (at least for me). It's catchy, dancy, well produced and unique.

For me right now Mahmood is like the clear favorite for the win

lmao as if eurovision won't suddenly become a bigger deal in italy the instant they win again. portugal loooooved to pretend they weren't that into eurovision but then they won and now look at them trying hard and holding a NF with effort. i also highly doubt RAI wouldn't host.

everyone except swedes think their own country doesn't do enough for eurovision and that "people don't even watch" anyway lol.

The Swedes are right if they apply the aforementionned logic to VRT though

I agreed until this point. It's a lie. I can assure you that after knowing the delegation.
Rai definitely wants to win sooner or later, they were ready in 2015 and had very high expectations with Gabbani (they even had a big personalized promo on Tv).
But they usually play the game very quietly and do baby steps in having a better understanding of the event (as example, this year commentators will be live from the Arena also for the semifinal - until now live commentary of SF1 / SF2 was from Milan/Rome). And they introduced CuePilot - the same Eurovision software - in Sanremo 2 years ago, every year trying to compete with ESC at a technological level.
