re: ITALY 2014 - Emma

No way! A random artist from Sanremo would be a better choice than Emma Marrone.
Squeaky Mengoni was bad enough. Let's not add bawling Marrone to the score.

I agree Franco that Emma isn't a very good choice for ESC.I think Marco was fantastic but was really let down (like Nina) by the staging. He should of had the acoustic instruments on satge with him.Its not that I dislike this years bigs at Sanremo its just I think there are far better artists in Italy not there this year.In fact from an outsider it seems a very weak lineup this year.

We will have to see if they select outside this time.

I have a question only for the Italian forum members. Is Gigliola Cinquetti very famous in Italy or she's famous only in ESC fans?

I'm not italian but Gigiliola Cinquetti has a lot of "oldies" fans in Latin America.

She's very famous, both as singer and as tv hostess. She's never been too far from the stage.

Her sometimes forgotten second ESC entry "Si" is pretty fantastic too! xheart

Too bad she had to make her comeback the same year ABBA entered otherwise she would have been the first person, and as of today only female, to win Eurovision twice. Talk about bad luck xfacepalm

I agree and it's an amazing song, one of the best entries that we've seen in ESC! :)

Incredible artist.I think Gigliola was the first real artist in ESC to be contemporary yet remain pure class. The simple black dress, stunning vocals, understated yet perfect emotion and a song that seems slow and quiet but grows at the perfect pace, simply captivating. She really is an ESC legend.

Whoever gets the ESC ticket this year for Italy,(and I hope its one of their top female contemporary singers) they need to watch Gigliola winning that year and see the history that Copenhagen has with Italy in Eurovision. There would be no better history,or place for Italy to once again gain the trophy.

Cinquetti is still a huge star in :fr: among oldies as "Non ho l'eta" has been a big tune, most of the Eurovision winning songs in the sixties.
This song is very famous also. I don't what it is in :it:

She has toured in a huge show of singers who charted in 60s-70s and reunited.

"Si" is unknown in France. It's to be said we didn't participate in 1974 nevertheless... :)

What is incredible with Gigliola Cinquetti is she does'nt look to have getting older since 1974 !

Doesn't this talk about Gigliola just show why ESC is so wonderful. All the different people on here from all different countries, different cultures, different lives all respecting so much a wonderful singer and artist winning from before most on here were even born.Brought together in respect).
As A-Lister always rightly says, songs don't need to be in English because you don't need to understand the lyrics to understand the emotion and meaning of the song.Im sure Gigliola will have a tear in her eye as she watches the Italian entry walk out onto the stage in Copenhagen 50 years after her,a little black dress and a sublime performance did the same.

I reckon Italy is trying to appeal to younger crowd. I suppose Emma is a suitable candidate, though I don't like her music at all!
