Oh, I didn't know that.
But I'm also amazed about her courage. She must have been aware what criticism she would awake. Very unusual for a movie star. Most of them avoid at all costs taking sides on controversial issues.
A few days ago I saw her on an American television show. I found her to be very intelligent and charming. She wasn't afraid of taking sides there either.

I liked her a lot for showing this gesture. Too many people unfortunately mistake antisemitism with a critical view towards the politics that Israel does. And Natalie really showed courage stating her opinion that way. :)

Re: ISRAEL 2019

After the scandal, I am not sure if Israel would have her as a host ...

As you predicted.
Yesterday an Israeli newspaper stated that Natalie Portman is on Kan's wishlist for hosting, which ignited a very negative reaction by Israeli fans of the ESC.

Sad. Sometimes people are very unforgiving. It was directed against Netanjabhu, she is not antisemitic.

If Natalie Portman agrees to be in the Eurovision Song Contest and becomes the moderator, no one will be angry, everyone will forgive her or ask forgiveness, depending on which camp the Israelis are in

Plagiarism allegations against winning song of the song contest

According to Israeli media reports, the composer of the winning song "Toy" of the Eurovision Song Contest is facing charges of plagiarism. The Universal Music Group accuses them of copying the White Stripes song "Seven Nation Army," Israeli media reported yesterday evening. It's about similarities in the rhythm, not in the melody or the lyrics

Israeli media wrote that if at least parts of "Toy" were proven to be copied, it could endanger the hosting of the 2019 Song Contest in Israel. The winning song must be an original. Otherwise, Netta could be disqualified retrospectively, the Israeli daily Haaretz wrote.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) as the organizer of the Eurovision Song Contest initially did not comment on the subject

I found the claim to be ridiculous. The rhythm??
Just checked, no April Fools' Day today.

If you listen clearly, there might be a small similarity, but you wouldn't notice if people didn't make you aware. And actually who cares? In the music world one steals from another. And to be honest, White Stripes' song "Seven Nation Army" is epic. Whereas "Toy" is just embarassing.

Re: ISRAEL 2019

At least the Israeli TV producer Adar Shafran is convinced that the ESC will be held in Israel:
https://www.screendaily.com/news/ma...set-comedy-thriller-exclusive/5131259.article

"The Israeli TV producer Adar Shafran plans a comedy-thriller miniseries called "Douze Points".
The storyline revolves around an extremist plot to assassinate the president by infiltrating a French boyband in the Eurovision Song Contest and a group of Mossad agents who have been coached in the art of make-up and dancing to guard over the event in the guise of hairdressers, choreographers and stylists."

“We have to move fast,” says Shafran, who produces under the banner of Firma Films. “We need all three episodes to be ready to air around the time of the contest, which means we need start shooting by December at the latest.”

I can't imagine that the EBU finds this hilarious.

"Last gasp compromise allows Israel to stage Eurovision final"

https://en.globes.co.il/en/article-...s-israel-to-stage-eurovision-final-1001248037

"The government has agreed to lend KAN the €12 million deposit it needs to pay the European Broadcasting Authority by August 1.

At the last moment, the Israeli government has found a solution that will enable the Eurovision song contest final to go ahead in the country next May.

Last night it was agreed that KAN will receive a temporary loan, sources inform "Globes," in order to pay the deposit to the European Broadcasting Authority as well as a letter of intent from the government guaranteeing all costs for the event. The loan is being made after consultations between the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Communications, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu himself, and phone calls to each of the cabinet ministers."

The Jerusalem Post writes today:

KAN ASKS EBU FOR MORE TIME TO COME UP WITH EUROVISION CASH

"The Israel Public Broadcasting Corporation, which has the trade name Kan, is scrambling to come up with the budget necessary to secure next year’s Eurovision in Israel.

On Monday, the European Broadcasting Union agreed to Kan’s request for a two-week delay – until August 14 – to supply the €12 million deposit to guarantee hosting the competition."

A spokeswoman for Kan said Tuesday that the EBU called the August 14 deadline “a critical date for continuing the process.”

Eurovision contest in danger
Gil Omer, chairman of the board of the broadcasting corporation, appealed today to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and threatened that the corporation would announce to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) this week that he would give up the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Israel.

Omer added that "for the past two weeks I have been making great efforts to inform the decision makers of the obstacles we face in order to make every effort to resolve them. In various letters I sent during this period, I noted that we see great importance in the competition in Israel, Both in terms of image and economic perspective.

"Unfortunately, our repeated requests for intensive work to solve the major problems that stand in the way of competition in Israel have not been answered," Omer added in his letter to the prime minister.

In two days, the Israel Public Broadcasting Corporation will be required to provide a 12 million euro guarantee to ensure the hosting of the 2019 Eurovision competition in Israel. This is a point of no return, following which—if the guarantee is not provided as required by the EBU—it would not be possible to change the situation, and the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest will not take place in Israel," Omer wrote in a letter seen by Ynet

Re: ISRAEL 2019

Sources close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded this evening to the public broadcasting corporation's threat that the corporation would be forced to relinquish the Eurovision Song Contest in Israel due to difficulties in providing a guarantee at the demand of the European Broadcasting Union.

"The prime minister and the finance minister decided that a body that is budgeted at a huge sum of 750 million shekels at the expense of the public can find the budget source for the Eurovision Song Contest," the sources said.

Broadcaster gives Netanyahu ultimatum over Eurovision funding

PM told he has 2 days to come up with the €12 million guarantee or Israel will pull out of hosting the song contest; government says 'no' to covering costs

In addition to the deposit, it is expected to cost NIS 157 million ($42 million) to host the song contest. Even after the revenues earned by the broadcaster, it will face a shortfall by some NIS 104 million ($28 million), The Marker business news site reported. Kan wants the government to top up its budget to cover these costs.

However, it appeared unlikely Kan would get its money.

“The broadcasting authority is trying to destroy the Eurovision with its wasteful attitude,” a source close to Netanyahu was quoted as saying by Hebrew media.

“The prime minister and the finance minister decided that a body which receives NIS 750 million in public funding can find the budget for the Eurovision guarantee,” he said.

Maybe this will be the greatest ESC of all time if they can transfer their capabilities to create drama to the shows.

Re: ISRAEL 2019

The broadcaster has to sacrifice something too. For instance the Austrian ORF canceled 2015 the whole season of "Dancing Stars", their most expensive shows, to finance the ESC.

The alarm bells at ORF are ringing again. As a matter of prudence the canceled their most expensive and successful show this year too.

https://wiwibloggs.com/2018/08/13/e...ns-to-give-up-hosting-eurovision-2019/225809/
There is a speculation that the EBU has another country lined up to host should Israel not be able to do it. However, this has not been publicly confirmed.

ORF doesn't comment the matter but reports the difficulties sourrunding the event in their online media today:

Re: ISRAEL 2019

Oh, oh!
First media reports appear in Austria that the ESC could be held in Vienna:

http://m.heute.at/szene/musik/story/40225382

heute.at describes the case of cases as "a miracle come true" and writes further "From an Austrian point of view, one can only say: Merci, Chérie!"

If ORF is asked they can't hardly don't accept. They would be killed by the other media and the tourism industry.

Even if Israel won't be able to host, why is Austria second option?

Money? Western Europe available for almost everyone? No mess with time zones? They've just hosted one and it wasn't that bad?
Yeah, let's give Australia a go instead.
