This could very well be another one of those epic "who will do best - Ireland or Denmark" battles.

:ie: are revamping their entry right now.

It´s probably the first time that I hope a revamp to "un"polish the song :D

The great Irish act of attempting to polish a turd

Perhaps don't select a turd in the first place... it's disconcerting really that a song submitted for a show with the sole aim of finding Ireland's Eurovision entry would require a revamp AFTER the show

It was the "best" of a very, very, very bad and terrible national final (based on the performances).

Who knows... if they miraculously turn this song into a more competitive entry (it will still be pretty generic), I can see them sneaking into the final (and finishing bottom 5) but at least, it got "mass appeal" and that semi seems to have many eccentric, progressive and "demanding" entries (which need your full attention) that this generic and bland pop/rock song with tiny anthemic elements could "shine".

In 2019´s semi 1, some of the more unique and progressive entries didn´t qualify (:pt: :pl: :ge:) whilst generic and dated mess advanced to the final (:by: :sm: :ee:) ...

Ireland strike me as the type of country that would rather withdraw than change their Eurovision habits

This song is stuck in my head. The "We are one..." part is an earworm. I still find it generic. Good that they're revamping the song. I hope Ireland makes it to the final just because I don't like seeing countries constantly flop at Eurovision. They flopped almost every year (- 2018) in the last 10 years...

Some people say that we need Sweden to break our record of wins to get Ireland to take the contest seriously again.

but if the United Kingdom were to break our win record that would really get us together. We'd win the next year probably.

Nope. Only thing that would get Ireland to take it seriously again is to have RTE be totally overhauled. There's a huge number of grey haired men aged 50 to 65 at RTE who live in 1999. You only have to listen to all the people at RTE over 50 and the former big wigs of Irelands eurovision in the 80s and 90s saying "we have a huge chance at winning this year". Clueless.

They think the late late show is still cutting edge television and can't recognise that eurovision has transformed into a high calibre modern contest, they still view it as it was in 1997 when a woman in a tight dress singing a balad was always a safe bet. Their music tastes froze in time by 2002.

You need young people aged 25 to 45 having near total control over the selection process of songs and then a proper competition on a big studio stage.

Until the older people at RTE retire or get moved elsewhere, Ireland will remain stuck in 1999, a quarter of a century behind.

So much fantastic talent exists in ireland but RTE ignore it.

Look at the BAFTAS and Osars. Ireland is dominating in nominations for a country of 5.2 million people. Imagine RTE selected our film talent and writers.. we'd be producing crap.

Young blood = young talent = young eyeballs on RTE screens.

The worst thing that could happen to Ireland, is we get lucky say for example next year and by chance send a good song. It gets top 5. RTE would continue as they are now until 2030. A few more flop years and the lightbulb in their brains might turn on.

I doubt the revamp is going to turn this turd into anything special. This is something I can see Westshitlife singing it like 10 years ago. NOT GOING TO LISTEN TO IT AGAIN. :3:

I quite like the song, the music from the chorus build up reminds of the UK song from the isolation song contest with Mans in 2020, check it out on you tube.

I'm afraid this will be last place in semi 1 and last place period. Can't see how this song will manage to get some points in that semi, when even Latvia has delivered... Imo, dead on arrival... A shame because they seem nice, but the song just isn't good...
