I'm not sure it's a glam rock tune so much. Let me post a video of a song that I think the song sounds like, and you can just tell me if you agree:

Spot on!

I did mention the similarities too some time ago in this thread though I can't be bothered finding the link! Uncanny :)

[Glam rock as in the guitar break towards the end... I kept imagining them with big hair and silver tight pants]

Don't really like the song but they have a nice stage presence. I love their colourful suits :)

Annoying verses, English lyrcis written by a 5-year old, childish stage show... what saves this song is the chorus that is catchy... I just have to admit that I predicted it to qualify.

Hoooowwww.. DARE you insult the legend and lyrical genius that is the great John Grant. I think the guys were very lucky to have him onboard for the translation. He's one of my favourite artists ever and I was utterly shocked when I read he'd be writing the English lyrics.

I don't know who he is, but regardless this song could have been written AND composed by a 5-year old...

So I discovered the songs of the 1st semi yesterday and I'll give my opinion on the Icelandic entry this year :

It's hard to say something positive about it, as soon as the song started, I felt like I was surrounded by a wall of sound without an actual melody, I can't even talk about the singer since it's just noise to my ears. It sounds like some bad old Brit-pop rock, I can't find anything good in it even to save my life. The outfits and background were like "Leto Svet", that is flashy colors that are unpleasant to look at, there is no particular thing going on on stage during the act. No no no, the worst song of the 1st semi-final is Iceland by far.

And guess what? They qualified? Oh my, who the hell voted for this? I look forward to the split results to know if I have to blame either the juries or the viewers, or both! As always, better songs stayed in the semi. Imo this entry will end up nowhere, at least I hope so : if "Never forget" was around the 20th place in 2012, this must not do better. period. I don't think I'll change my mind about it when I get to listen to all the songs again. Three minutes will be wasted in the final, I'll have a break.

Life is way too short for short-sightedness
and tell me who has got the time
for narrow-mindedness
Listen to what I say
cause every-buh buh buh buh buh buh
body looks the same on the inside
And it puh puh puh puh puh puh puh puh
pays:
to wear a smile

Let’s do away with prejudice
don’t discriminate, tolerance is bliss
we got to get together on this
cross this problem off our list
I may stutter when I speak
(but) you don’t need to call me freak
it’s not trigonometry
inside we’re the same

HEY

Even if you’re taller
Or someone who is smaller
Or perhaps you’re thinner
Or one who loves his dinner
Listen to what I say
cause every-buh buh buh buh buh buh
body looks the same on the inside
And it puh puh puh puh puh puh puh puh
pays:
to wear a smile

You must have some pretty smart 5 year olds in Sweden because my niece is nearly five and there's no way in hell she could even put these words together on her own and know the meaning.

As I said, a 5-year old could pull this off... however I do admit the chorus is catchy... and that mixed with it being different from the rest is probably why it managed to qualify.

Deluded. A FIVE YEAR OLD could not write lyrics with that kind of depth. And I'm not being sarcastic - they're pretty clever lyrics for such a happy song to address.

I think they aren't very clever, in fact I find them utterly cringeworthy like most of these type of "message-y" songs are xshrug

The english lyrics were written by John Grant, he is no 5 year old when it comes to making lyrics....

Yay! This song is one of my favourites. xheya There are so many ballads this year so I'm not surprised Pollapönk qualified although some people didn't think it would happen.

The lyrics are pretty good. Oh but it's in English.

Apparently he got help from one this time around

Pretty bad... but each to their own. The issue with English in this case is that I can hear that the lyrics are bad

But then again, I don't really like lyrics that wants to be preachy... they end up 99% cringe regardless.

Agree that the simple yet clever lyrics made the song more appealing. It wouldn't have done nearly as well sung in Icelandic.
