Re: ÍSLAND - Iceland 2011

Yes but they will sing in icelandic when they choose the song but will they translate it later in english for Eurovision? I hope not! They ruin the songs when they translate them!
Examples, Sweden 1999 (they won but the song in swedish is better), 2000, 2001, 2004, 2006...

Translations are so dumb and just as you mention in most cases it just destroys the entries.

As for Sweden we sometimes suck at translations (2000+2004) but 2001 and 2006 were ok translations though.

But in 99% of the cases translations just destroys the songs.

Well agree about the "ok translations" of 2001 and 2006 but still, I prefer the songs in swedish.

Seriously sometimes I really wish they bring back the language rule!

My personal opinion is that a language rule shouldn't be brought back. I prefer to see "sing in whatever language you want/like", but I do encourage an attempt to make singing in your native language more popular. I also like to hear different things in different languages, than listening to (almost) everything in English. So, it should be an option, but more native language songs are more than welcome.

I actually agree with that the rule shouldn't be brought back, but on the other hand in some way the English take-over is destroying the very soul of this contest.

I think the juries should encourage native langugaes, so far the juries are voting like morrons though (they vote for everything that could turn ESC into some random American Idol rip-off) but hopefully they get to their senses and start understanding what this contest should be all about (EUROPE) so I think it should be in the juries directives to favor songs in native languages also.

It seems that Paul Oskar will give it another try. His Eurovision entry in 1997 was masterpiece!

Iceland usually sends masterpieces, hehe!

Actually, I'm one of those who think they quite often leave their best entries at home.

The biggest loss was in 2007 when they send some really crap song instead of this one;

I'm glad though that they decided to stick with Icelandic, and hoepfully they won't translate to ESC either.

A song like "Segdu Mer" could be great!

Have Iceland every send an ethnic sounding entry?

Selma Björnsdóttir! I don't understand how could she fail to qualify for the final in Kyiv. It was a big shock! Send her back to the ESC. She clearly deserves a Eurovision victory in her Curriculum Vitae!

Yeah she deserved qualification! That was clearly one of the least fair moments of ESC during the last decade for sure!

But that would be her 3rd time already?

Well she made a horrible performance to be honest and every time I look at it I forget about the song..so I guess many forgot her back then.

Selma has done her part in ESC, I would more likely see Yohanna, Euroband or even Silvia Night back in ESC then her, cause they are more contemporary. But best would be to see some new artist, giving something completly different from what Iceland usually sends! :)

I don't think it was that bad, and the song really deserved to qualify. I agree though that she has done her part for now.

As for Euroband being "contemporary", I can't agree. Their song was very passé sounding. I doubt Iceland will send that character Silvia Night again, and hopefully they'll spare us

As for Yohanna i'm all for it though! :) I found that entry a bit boring at first, but she really made an impressive performance.

Selma's great! 16th was very random, IMO... She defintiely deserved top 10, I agree! And from the former ones, I'd like Silvia back the most, hehe! No Yohanna, please... She's pure boredom.

"If I had Your Love" was badly performed, but it was an awesome song. It deserved the final. I wouldn't mind seeing Selma again, but I prefer fresh faces more :)

Honestly I don't care about the artist. Just give us a good song.
BUT no more Sylvia Night please!

Selma in a duo with Paul Oskar would rock Germany. Iceland really deserves a Eurovision victory!

Re: ÍSLAND - Iceland 2011

Yohanna is back!!!!!

She will return next year with the intent to represent Iceland once again. Apparently she is going to sing a song by the composer Maria Bjoerk Sverrisdottir.
