Performed by: Sjonni Brink's friends
Lyrics by: Þórunn Erna Clausen
Composed by: Sigurjón Brink
Language: Icelandic

Icelandic television broadcaster RÚV has already announced changes to Söngvakeppnin 2011.
In a letter to the Association of Icelandic songwriters; Páll Magnússon, the managing director of Icelandic television broadcaster RÚV has announced that all entries to Söngvakeppnin 2011 shall be performed entirely in Icelandic - claiming that it's an Icelandic song contest intended for the entertainment of Icelandic television viewers.

The statement has recieved mixed feelings amongst the Icelandic public, who for the most part support and prefer the Icelandic Eurovision entires to be performed in English.

To the relief of many, the letter goes on to say;

"However, while Söngvakeppnin is still the method for choosing the nation's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest, RÚV will remain true to it's obligations by providing financial support towards the translation of the entry - should that be the wish of the chosen entrant."

Whether 2011 will see Iceland performing in its native Icelandic for the first time since Paul Oscar's 1997 entry Minn hinnsti Dans remains a mistery for now.

Sure..I mean why not try a song in Icelandic in 2011! :D

Still depends on the song if Icelandic works, but would be cool to hear it! :)

I agree for Regina Osk. But i want Birgitta Haukdal to compete most. Especially it would be great if Írafár re-united for Eurovision xcrossed

She's a singer,! I knew I knew her and when I saw the BULGARIAN cover of MAXIM, I was sure who she was. She's a football player' wife. xrofl3 There's some stupid show that no one watches that features some wifes of football players... No wonder panakos knows her. She really does look rather like a porn star...

Iceland announces search for 2011 entry

Icelandic television broadcaster RUV, has announced the opening of it's search for Iceland's 2011 Eurovision Song Contest entry. The nation took second place in 2009 and reached the Eurovision Song Contest final for the third year running in Oslo last May.

As in previous years Iceland will choose it's Eurovision Song Contest representative through Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins - scheduled to take place in the first two months of 2011.

Additional details were announced earlier today and esctoday.com can confirm that composers have until midnight on October 18th to send in their entries. The selection process is open only to residents of Iceland. Icelandic composers are however allowed to collaberate with composers residing outside Iceland and each composer may enter a maximum of three songs.

The specific format of Söngvakeppnin 2011 has not been chosen, but will be announce in due time. You can find link to the site containing the application form and specific rules in the links section.

Re: ÍSLAND - Iceland 2011

I think it's great that the rules said it should be performed in Icelandic.

The more native languages the better... i'm personally bored to death with English in every song. So boring, so souless. EUROvision or ANGLOvision?

Yes but they will sing in icelandic when they choose the song but will they translate it later in english for Eurovision? I hope not! They ruin the songs when they translate them!
Examples, Sweden 1999 (they won but the song in swedish is better), 2000, 2001, 2004, 2006...
