Kitsch performance that doesn't work with the serious nature of the song. The dancers (clearly playing the role of Father and Daughter) are uncomfortable to watch. However, a brilliant, effective back drop. I really like it and although I find that Andras has a weak voice, he holds the whole thing together very well and it's solid despite the glaring issue for me of the forced, tacked on dark subject matter that doesn't come across as very sincere. If the lyrics weren't so blunt and (in my opinion) poorly written, i'd be able to enjoy the piece of music for what it is a little more. I'm just worried at the prospect of this winning. I think he's a big favourite as everyone is foaming at the mouth a little when they see Andras.

I am not foaming at the mouth watching Andras. I didn't even understand why people would claim this was a potential winner. The song has never been in my top 10 this year.
I think the dance is a good illustration for the lyrics. A little girl at the piano was WAY too obvious, and would make me feel awkward. The dancers dont, imo. Andras is doing a good performance. And he has a voice sufficiently good for this song.
For now Hungary is what seems mostly like a winner to me.

His vocals are ok. That's true.

And yes, perhaps all of the favourites are being overhyped and someone unexpected will win, but in a year with no Euphoria/Only Teardrops we don't have much to go on  Hungary seems to be the leader of the pack from rehearsal videos so far...

My first guess to win ESC 2014 was Norway, but it was based only on the studio version. I was quite disappointed by his live performances, so I excluded him from my top 5, but if he will manage to perform it as in the studio version, I wouldn't be shocked if Norway would win.

The dancers certainly are better than the little girl at the piano but I still don't like them. The biggest problem for me is how forced the subject matter feels. It almost feels like the song has a false sense of depth to it that's there to give a cool but ordinary song (and singer) some edge. This is not a case of turning darkness into aching beauty (e.g. Suus) but more a case of using something that people will take notice of for personal gain.

On one hand it could be good if in the process this helps anyone going through (or has been through) a similar situation as the songs subject matter. On the other hand, I don't like it as to me the song smacks of desperation and leaves a cold feeling. Pop and Child Abuse don't go together. Far too much swaggery on display as well. Many people are going to be watching the performance and thinking "COOL!!!" when lyrically it really isn't cool. It's dark and disturbing. A very confused song that's ticking a lot of boxes to do well.

I agree that the mixture of pop and child abuse might seem a bit odd (to say it the least). But at the same time; isnt it a good thing that pop lyrics are not all about love, love, love (either happy or unhappy)? But as I said; I do get your point.
I do not find this cynical. I guess it balances on a fine line - but in my opinion it doesnt cross it. If Andras was smiling, cheering, clapping hands etc - it would NOT be suitable. But the way this is presented; I think it works, and it ends up on the right side of the mentionted fine line...

I think it is about whether it crosses that fine line or not and everyones line is at a different height.

Musically it's a pretty good composition and song. It is good to have different subject matters in pop but only when it feels right. Unfortunately it does cross the line for me as I kind of live for emotions in my music and some of my most favourite songs are incredibly dark. What makes these songs special is the sincerity and how achingly beautiful they are. I can't find this in "Running".

I said weeks ago that I wish the lyrics were more tastefully done and not so blunt because then things would be easier to overlook and I could judge the song without this cold feeling controlling my judgement.

Don't know why but this song looks much weaker live and it's a pity :(
