Oh yes, law is certainly way more mentally exhausting than history, at least for me. I can remember every small detail in the War of the Roses or WW1, but when it comes to administrative law, shit is hard to remember :lol: I wish there was an easier way to study law but there isn't ;_;

I am currently (re)studying law (civil procedure and criminal procedure) too, for my entrance exam at uni for Master's Degree. I literally cannot wait for it to be over to take a month long break xrofl2

All my respect for lawyers for having learnt administrative law xbow XDD the complicated language they use, there being always exceptions in every article, a thousand deadlines to remember… ugh…

I think you would have been a good historian  History is like remembering a story but with more details, and being able to make a relation between a historical source (a text, an object, etc.) and what you’ve been “told”, and make your own conclusions out of the comparison. It’s an amazing thing to study, what a shame people don’t care about it because it doesn’t make money.

Good luck in your exam! I will also take a very long break after the examinations  there is even a game about hominid's evolution, called Ancestors, that I definitely want to play once everything is done XD.
Btw, we don't do any exam to study a Master's Degree xthink we use the global grade of your degree to make the selection.

OMG I KNOW. Exceptions are the bane of my existence. Everything is fine and dandy, the rule or principle is very clear, then... NO! FUCK YOU, WE HAVE 50 EXCEPTIONS AND SOME ARE REALLY RIDICULOUS. Deadlines are also annoying, i tried to find a logic to them but they are just random.

Yes I would've loved to study History but sadly I went to the wrong high-school specialisation (15 years old me was into web design and programming, oh how wrong that turned out to be) and I didn't had too many history classes. I mostly learned it thanks to the internet. Plus, history here is way too much focused on national events and I was more of a European History kind of guy.

We have entrance exams usually when there are more people that apply to the Master's Degree specialisation than the number allocated (I think it's 50 spots this year?). Luckily, if only 49 bitches think to apply, I am free of this wretched oral exam. The global grade is only used to decide the 50th spot -.-

Good luck to you too with studying and the examinations xrunhug Will it be multiple choice or oral?

Thank you! xrose Actually I don't know. Well, I know two of them are just to write everything I know about X topic, and with the other they didn't say what kind of exam it will be. It won't be oral, for sure, but I don't know if it will be writing too, or multiple choice. These are only the exams of "knowledge", then I'll do 3 more exams where I have to say what I would do in certain cases. For example, they usually ask you to plan activities for the library during the summer, or for children, or to promote reading. I'll also have to do a psychometric test, and finally some interviews

Such an educated forum.

I'm a freshman at UvA this year in computer science, I should have started earlier but I took gap year to the next level lmao and made it 2-3 yrs. Whenever I go to school though I usually have straight A's, always wanted to try Oxford but money is a huge issue ofc, maybe I'll try to do masters there. I am aware of how hard getting in is, always set your goals high though xblowkiss

People that have the patience for PhD have my respect! Not sure if I'll ever try it but it sure is an epic title.

Good luck to y'all as well : )

I wanted to do my masters in UvA (it was the main reason i started dutch!), but money was a HUGE issue, considering i'm not european and not from a dutch colony.

So if I'm gonna do my masters anywhere other than here, I'll probably go to Portugal because 1. I don't have to spend that much money 2. I won't have a language barrier 3. I have friends who live there 4. I can work as a researcher there without getting worried as I would be here.

Yes, UvA + living in Amsterdam is not cheap at all. It only works for me since I'm considered a local, but it's a loan from the government essentially and I'll be in great debt xfaint xheat
But its a great school.

Good luck with your journey xheart Portugal seems like an amazing destination as well indeed! Don't ever change your dialect btw if you do go study there! Brazillian Portuguese>>ur favorite languages

People who do a PhD have my eternal respect, you only have to read a few thesis to understand how much work it is. No way I'll do one, unless it's a really good subject.

I just started the first of my two years of Master's Degree and already know it will be hard. Interesting, but hard. I can't wait for the second semester and my internships.
I'm in Sport Sciences for anyone wondering, specializing in human engineering. In short, I'll be able to design and evaluate sports equipment suited for human motricity.

As for money, I guess I have to thank the French system which basically allow me to study for free. Housing is another thing however...

I started my Master's Degree with the idea of doing a PhD after it, and my teachers wanted me to do it because they liked my Master's thesis, but then I thought I would go no-where with a PhD in Ancient Roman army. I decided to work focusing on other cultural/education fields.

The lack of job opportunity after a PhD is a problem too. In my field we don't have much to be afraid of, but I know people in other courses who struggle to find an approriate job after completing their thesis.

It's so interesting to see the educational discussion here!

I thoroughly enjoy being in my doctoral program. It's a fantastic having access to leading researchers and clinicians in my field, and being part of a cutting edge research for my doctoral project. My only wish is that I wish my program did not cost an arm and a leg. After all of my scholarships and grants, I still have over 100,000 USD in student loans xrollinglol. At the end of the day, I think it's worth it because my field is growing and I'm really passionate about what I'm studying. YET, at the same time, I can't help but ponder on the fact that I'm putting myself (and my husband) into so much debt to pursue my passion.

Looks like I have to pass the oral exam after all, as 108 people signed up for the Master's Degree. I don't know why I feel so anxious about it and have this small part of my brain constantly shouting "you're not good enough for this, they are much better than you and deserve that place, not you". I've procrastinated for a bit and found out that it is called imposter syndrome.

Did you ever feel like this? How do you motivate yourself? :"D

You must be a perfectionist! I used to be that kid actually that would cry if they had anything below 100%, yes 99% too xrofl

To me personally, a bunch of shit happened in life and it just made me see, school and all of it... It's just not everything at the end of the day. Now I'm basically the complete opposite which works for me

It's not the best advice, but I would just say: relax! :D its the worst advice actually ahaha but what can I say: believe in yourself, you came this far and just from seeing your posts here (+ you stanning Banu Alkan) I can tell you're a highly intelligent individual. (Especially because you stan Banu, that indicates very high intelligence.) Be well prepared so you won't leave with doubts. You can do it and if it doesn't work out, it really is not the end of your life or your success.

Kind of. Not always  But in my 4 years of bachelor's in law uni I always had course mates who were leagues away from me and I felt like I was stupid af for not understanding some things. I was even thinking if I didn't peak in high-school xrofl2

Stanning Banu should be the default for every human being.

This is me literally at my best sorry. I always get told I'm the worst motivational speaker and it's true. Thank god for internet, where you can rethink what you just wrote down xrofl me live would be like: "So you're below average intelligence? That's not the worst thing, right? Some people die xshrug"

At this point even the question puts me in immense stress lol

Help, how do I overcome this? (Now Im the one needing help)
