Re: GREECE 2016

GRE I don't know what Eleni is singing - so the lyrics may be stupid - but "Golden Boy" sounds amazing in Greek. Nadav should have sung it in Hebrew tbh.

Well, it's a usual love story.
In the chorus she says
To the God he travels me,
when he holds me,
in everyway he looks at me,
whatever he says to me,
it sticks to me.
To the God he travels me,
my heart breaks,
he has big influence to me.

The song that Tamta was supposed to compete with in the NF 2015, instead Maria Elena took her place.

This would've been in my top 10, possibly top 5.

stephanos13 Why didn't Tamta compete this year?

No one really knows the exact reason. Ιn an interview she said they were pressed by time, she withdraw at the "last minute".

Maybe ERT was just afraid to win and told Tamta not to enter...

This is the average place Greece takes in each decade

70's=> 9
80's=> 12,42
90's=> 13,11
00's=> 7,44

Do you really believe that Tamta would do well with this repetitive crap? :lol:

I think she can do better than this!

So it seems ERT has confirmed Greece will participate and that a national final will be held!

TBH I'm not convinced that it is good idea for them to participate, considering they've recently got a lot of financial issues. Also what will happen if Greece wins? :confused: I don't think it will be easy for them to pull off a show in such a troublesome situation.

If they win and really can't afford to host then they pass up the hosting chance, they aren't forced to host if they don't want to

But what is the point of participating then? In my opinion, they would be better off taking a break and only broadcasting the show (like Ukraine this year).

Well to spread their culture, to send their best possible act and try to achieve a good result, and also because the show is very popular in Greece :D
In my opinion a country shouldn't compete only to win, or only to be able to host it the year after. If that was the case countries like San Marino wouldn't want to participate, but thankfully they do.

Re: GREECE 2016

I am not really that happy that ERT will organize the NF.

Dear ERT, I love you and everything, but your last NF was in a mall... IOTAP

Just let MAD do the NF and everything will be fine.

They might do it with MAD, they didn't say anything in the contrary I think

That's why the quality of their NF songs is so low that there's absolutely no chance for their victory. xrofl2

Well, it maybe was a case in the past. However I think it's hardly about spreading culture nowadays - if it was we wouldn't have so many entries in English. Majority of recent Greek entries were sung in English (except for 2010 and 2011).

It might be for several reasons that Greece (and Ukraine and some other countries that is unlikely able to host it if they win) to join Eurovision.

One may be Tourism. Greece is only reliable to that now when their economy is what it is and Eurovision is the best place for marketing their country and make themselves look in better daylight, away from the bad news that accurs too often.

Others may be joining for pride. A country like Albania or Moldova that never gets attention basically has the shot of competing in (almost at least) equal terms with greater european countries and may get not only noticed in Europe, but in the country itself when they do well, which makes a huge national pride. It may be so even that even when the country does bad, they can still feel the national pride feeling, especially if the song itself was popular.

Another ones may do it for political reasons. To maybe put a mark down that they are to be counted with and not forgotten. Even if they are poor or is in a war, they can still do it. Bosnia in the 90s had huge applauses when they were on stage and voted, which made an political impact on the viewers that they were still trying even if the times were rough. Also the song itself may have a political touch to it (which is fine by me as long it isn't racist or namedropping too much), which is also to make a mark in the viewers mind about certain matters in European politics.

There are for sure several more reasons, but to add one more that DanielLuis said, Greece won ESC for more than then years ago and it has still very popular despite everything that has happened lately. I think with Greece (and for Ukraine as well) is that it is making them feel nostalgic and make them remember the better times the country had, before everything went horribly wrong. Greece first entered ESC in 1974 and many greeks are just raised with the contest and it is a way to get away from the real life for a few hours and enjoy a show. That is something that all people that watches ESC feel, to get away from the stressful World for a few hours of entertainment! :D
