BTW it's not that Greece always same the same stuff. Actually the last similar entry was Kalomoira's in 2008 (4 years ago!). Sakis was a dance song else, OPA was 100% Greek and last year was totally different.
This would be the fourth "typical" Greek entry with summer pop song with ethnic elements: 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2012.

And then.... it's only Greece who sticks to the same stuff?? NO

Some examples:

:fi: sent three rock related songs three years in a row (2006, 2007 and 2008)
:am: sent the same formula in 2006, 2008 and 2010.
:tr: sent Turkish rock in 2004, 2008, 2010, 2011 and this year is not that far either...
:de: is used to "Americanized" songs (2004, 2006, 2007, 2009), three of them in a jazzy style.
:dk: songs in 2009, 2011 and 2012 have quite similar melodic style as well.
:rs: and the Balkan ballads: 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2012.
:ba: the same... 2006, 2007, 2009
:ro: and dancy songs in 2005, 2006, 2010 and this year, though the last one is more different with the Latin elements.
:ua: used similar formula in 2006, 2008 and 2009. You can put the current entry here as well (though I wouldn't)
:mt: and Disney ballads. 2005, 2009, 2010 (and if we go back in time, this can be never-ending)

And I'd probably find more cases...

Honestly, I think every year is a different one and we should value the song as it is itself. If one country sends a very good ballad, who cares if their last 50 entries have been ballads? If one country sends a very good dance track, who cares if their last 50 entries have been dance songs? I don't get why we're blaming here. But in case we blame, please, blame everyone, cause I've proven Greece is not the only one and also not the worst one repeating itself ;)

wow!!!this is what we call research!!!!xclapxclapxclap

I think Interrail used the proper term "experimentation". That's what's missing.

Pablo, good job!

i really like the music and the concept but i really hate the lyrics. im sure theyll make it more presentable but still not quite a lot can be done imo.
as for those that compare it with the cypriot entry i beg to disagree. this has strong elements of folk greek music. the only "similarity" is the lala and oh oh which if i had to choose would prefer the lala since it is linked to a word la la love instead of just panting on the stage.
i usually love the greek entries but must say i find it difficult to feel it this year,

p.s sorry if sounded harsh, dont mean to offend just my opinion.

BTW and I would agree if Greece (or any other country) experimented. But choosing a good song is the main goal here. If something different and cool at the same time were here, then awesome! But the supposedly different songs this year were just bad IMO.

Something different and GOOD. Not something different just because it's new.

Agree 100%

This should first and foremost be about choosing the best song and I think they did. You can't just choose different for the sake of being different, it has to be good aswell.

And so what if it includes ethnic elements? Is it now a rule that everything has to sound American or what? I thought this was Eurovision afterall. Instead of hating people should praise Greece for being one of few countries that atleast stay somewhat true to their own musical heritage.

Hello??? Please, explain what these entries have to do with each other. Flamenco is only present in 2005 and dance? Neither of those four entries has a dance style...
Only 2001 and 2003 have similar styles. Something like Greece does "à la Spanish". The rest are just failed shots to do well being different ;)

BTW.. you forgot add :se: at your list : 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009 - ala Abbaesque songs

Yeah, probably :se: deserved a spot in the list. But not Spain... I'd rather have good songs and good results and be in the list, than a bunch of different entries that go nowhere ;)

And just being "happy" is not enough to say that it's the same formula ;)

That's the problem. Putting ethnic elements into lame pop songs in this cheap way, it has nothing to do with our own musical heritage.

Well, I don't mean the "pop" bit of course, but atleast you use some ethnic elements, unlike most of the other countries which has nothing local added at all.

2004 is not Abbaesque, 2009 is hybrid schlager-pop/opera, it has traces but still differs.

As for the rest... yeah pretty spot on!

Spain belongs there in the same way some people put Greek in there. The reason why Greece is even put there is because people tend to only see ethnic elements = the same... but overlook that some of these have been quite different.

For Greece, I should say that 2005 was far different, it didn't even have the bouzouki sound. It was the Cretan lyra. For this year's entry I can find similarities only with 2004, 2007 and 2008, but not the rest entries of the past 10 years. Ok, maybe 2010 too, but it was more folk than pop that year, plus the Greek lyrics. I agree with somebody above, 100%. The music is nice, but I cannot like a song with such pussy lyrics. It doesn't have to be a "high quality" poem, but saying in effect "I wanna have sex with you" over and over again, this is something I will not like even in a 100 years... If they change this stupid lyrics, I will start liking the song, because this music style is among my favorites, I like ethnic-pop, and I loved almost all the Greek entries so far, especially 2008!

To the everyday European listener (who doesn't really differ between certain instruments), 2005 for sure is in the same category as the other you mentioned. It was basically ethno-pop, with traces of Greek elements, in English.

I'm really disappointment from our national final, the best thing of the night was Ivi's Adamou performance!
