They should send someone like EES, it couldn't possibly do any worse than they've done, and will do this year:

Even though we did okay this year things MUST change when it comes to the ESC in :de:, a better NF and finally getting rid of ******* Barbara Schöneberger would be a good start.

Would it be the German thread if I didn't tell you to send Electric Callboy by force

Now you cursed it and they will select Babsi to represent us.

In this case I pretend to be Austrian or Polish for the rest of the season.

They´re not interested anymore and after the last place by LotL I don´t think we´ll send a rock song all that soon again.

That would be too good to be true.

Probably, my number 1 wish for Germany still remains with Faun or even Santiano giving another attempt as they are a crowd pleaser

No thank you!! I´m still traumatized of my holidays in :hr:, everytime we could see the Adratic Sea for the first time my parents thought it it was a brillant idea to put a Santiano CD into the turntable and listen to their songs. Sorry, but this childish wannabe pirate attitude in combination with these ultra cheesy Schlager lyrics is triggering a musical cross allergy!! xscared

With a good song, I am in. But her song this year was just lame.

I would change it to a Japanese or an Austrian flag!

As for a rock song - I want to see one again in our NF (IF it is a good one), but I am open to any genre - I just hope that next year we won't see another radio-friendly song again. I want something daring and modern (like 2020, just with a better live singer).
Isaak was doing great vocally-wise, but let's be honest, the song wasn't. We had luck that Juries honored his voice. But nevertheless, it was nice seeing all those points coming. It was a feeling I had forgotten long time ago.

I think Germany's problem is just one.
The other Big 5 have had success in recent years with a clichè formula: :it: with 2015 and 2023, :fr: with 2021 and 2024, :es::uk: with their 2022 entries. That's what the public wants from the Big 5.
However, :de: just can't do this. German is a really beautiful language, with innovative words that can describe lots of feelings and situations. But unfortunately German doesn't work for music. So Germany has to stick to English, and they can't use a proper clichè formula.

German works in music, too.

We haven't sent a German song since 2007. So how do we actually know thay German songs don't work in Eurovision?
I hear that "argument" a lot - especially from German ESC fans but honestly, we badically don't have data.
We last German (like) songs we sent, though, performed quite well, e.g. 1998, 2000, 2001 which all ended up being Top 10 and even Roger Cicerco comfortably escaped the Bottom 5 back in 2007.

So no, German can work in music.

We might not come up with romantic ballads but our rock, alternative, indie and medieval scenes are massive, successful and we got a couple of bands singing in German selling out venus around Europe, e.g. Faun, Oomph!, Rammstein and more.

Hell freezes over before any of them is interested in ESC. And even if an act from these scenes participates in a NF there´s no chance for them to win as the German audience simply loves their harmless radiopop too much.

THIS- That's why I actually prefer an internal selection (not like 2021 though). I don't trust the German audience to vote correctly tbh. The only thing would be to make an NF WITHOUT a radio-friendly song, but I doubt in that case that NDR would do that.

It´s really a vicious circle, they know that radiopop doesn´t really work at Eurovision but they also know that a NF with only "special entries" doesn´t spark that much interest and they have to include at least one song.
