13th/14 at Eurovision Scoreboard.
From 7 to 9 in the Odds.
41% of the Eurovisionario Community gave 1 of 4 Stars.
4,15/12 Rating at ESCUnited.
Another Year, where we Germans cant be proud of our Entry.
We all knew that it would turn out like that if we didn't send Ryk. But this time it is not only the fault of the televoters, but the Juries. I really have no idea how they were voting. The only decent Juries were Sweden and Switzerland. Maybe the countries simply don't want to see Germany leaving the bottom. 😂
Really, my disappointment is immense right now. Could have been top 10, and instead we rather wanna stay at place 25. I am so done, really.

Ryk's performance simply wasn't convincing and "Jury winning material".
Juries usually opt for the best vocals and they put Isaak #1 and Max #2 - it wasn't really THAT shocking. Granted, I expected him to finish #3 in the juries but ESC Kompakt and fans really tried to sell his performance as the "only Eurovision-ready contender" and he wasn't able to perfectly deliver (he was mumbling at parts whilst the arrangement was very eearie and muddy) and if you come up with a very artsy-fartsy song with vocal gmynastics, you have to be on point.
Apart from the very impactful beginning, the performance was lacklustre (visually). :al: 2021 pulled it off in a better way (regarding the backdrop videos/visuals).
I think that he could have got a few more points if he made the whole performance less static and a bit warmer towards the end?

To be fair, none of our candidates had a perfect "package" but at least, Isaak's performance was enganging, Max didn't mumble and Galant were totally fun and something different - juries didn't really fail (but I'm still against having them in any National Finals!).

Ryk wouldn't have been Top 10 in Mamö with that performance, either. I'm sorry that quite a big amount of ESC fans lost a favourite but he was a "fan favourite" and it's not like we had something very competitive on our hands...
And let's face it: it would be more or less the same - especially since Marvin Dittmann was the stage director and he would probably be getting that job for Malmö again (and has been sabotaging German entires and Georgian once succesfully for a while xD).

In my first post in the Germany Thread where I commented on German songs I said that Isaak was the safest Eurovisual choice of all. Average voice, average song, average charisma. The problem is that when you don't want to take risks by bringing a sufficient product the public notices it and you fail (as was the case with Newman of the UK). Huge step back from LOTL. The best choice I would say, surprisingly because I despised it at the beginning, is "Katze". It was the most original, fun, innovative song of the selection. By focusing on fun, originality and trash, Germany would have earned some points to get out of the bottom 5. On Ryk, I finally let myself be convinced by the extreme love that several forum members here had for him. I would have been happy with their happiness. However, I understood right from the start that he was a losing horse. He was tremendously overrated. Isaak is better than Ryk for a reason: Isaak we know that he risks the bottom 5; Ryk, like LOTL, would end up in a surprise Bottom 5 and drama would erupt. Bad direction taken by NDR. All these bad choices and last places undermine the credibility of the German NF. No top artist will choose to participate. Like San Marino, old glories (like Max), debutants and alternative artists will present themselves. I believe that Germany should abandon the path of Sanremo/Benidorm Fest/Melodifestivalen/MGP and move, like France and the UK, to internal selection (provided, after another bottom 5, it does not choose to withdraw from the competition).

It's a :0: for me but I'll give it a friendly :7: points.

I know that we won't agree on that point anymore . But in my opinion Ryk had the best package. We definitely would have escaped bottom 5, with Isaak, we won't. Yes, I agree Ryk's staging wasn't perfect, but he had an ESC vision whereas Isaak's staging felt like Voice of Germany. Ryk would have had time to improve and I doubt that Isaak will change much. That we were around top 10 the past month was defintely not because of another artist. See us dropping in the odds.

You know that makes me kinda happy?? That all the PR around Marie didn´t help in the end, especially the desperate attempt of the couch to talk her to Malmö.

I'm fine with the winner.
The real scandal is that Mutzke came 2nd.

The Top 3 in televoting was inevitable (even #2 was kinda understandable) but the juries ranking him #2 was predictable, too (but laughable). It's so tiring that juries usually vote for the biggest vocals and basically give a damn about the songs.
I was "surprised" they placed "Katze" by Galant that high, tbh. I didn't expect them to lowkey appreciate "the most progressive" song of our line-up.

Do you seriously believe there is always some sort of malicious PR attempt? Wow, Schlager guy is in favour of a Schlager song, more news at 10. It's really not that deep.

And luckily Max who also promoted heavily came only second in televote. I can at least live with Isaak as winner, Max would have been a disaster.

Nope, but it was really obvious that they wanted her in Malmö. Only after her performance they talked about how Schlager would be "so fresh" and that Björn from ABBA recommended to send it.

To be honest, I think Ryk just got a bit unlucky with the jury voting procedure. I mean he's merely 4 points behind second place and yet leaves the jury voting with 5 total points and no more chance for the win. So 5th jury place is maybe a bit underappreciated, but it's not like they entirely buried him on purpose.

That said, there's not a single scenario, not a single voting procedure that NDR has tried out over the last decade that would ve brought him the win. No jury alone, no televote alone, no proportional televote, no additional fan panel. The voters just prefered something else...

Especially when you look at the other uptempo songs at ESC Marie would have had no chance against them. She had better songs done so far, but "Naiv" was really bad.

Max Giesinger even delivered a video message for Leona asking people to vote for her.

Mentioning Björn's statement that "Germany should try it with a Schlager song" is less PR during the show than letting other high-profile A-listeners of the German music scene openly supporting a participant.

When are they releasing the jury members? I'd love to know who was on the Spanish jury. Naiv 1st, Katze 2nd, Tears like Rain and Oh Boy bottom 3, very interesting ranking lmao
