Re: GEORGIA 2016 - Nika Kocharov & Young Georgian Lolitas

I know some are joking here, no doubt due to the anti-rock bias among Eurovision fans, but to see honest-to-god rock music at Eurovision makes my heart sing. No stupid gimmicks (apart from the dodgy name), no nonsense. They go up there and do their thing. I did not expect this, and maybe I can finally expect to see some quality at Eurovision this year.

Here is my ranking after 1 listen (the top 2 might switch with repeated listens) -

1. Sugar And Milk
2. Midnight Gold
3. Pain In My Heart
4. Right And Wrong
5. Weagree

Weagree is the only one I don't like. It's like the song you listen to at 3 in the morning that finally sends you into the land of nod. It's not terrible, but very, very dull.

Pick any of those 4 and me and Georgia will be getting on very well, for the second year in a row! I feel Midnight Gold will be my favourite on repeated listens, but at first listen, Sugar And Milk is the most impactful.

Rainywoods, may I join you in your darkened room? I need a lie down.

Seriously though, good job Georgia. xmusicxguitar

I couldn't even listen to all of the entries in total, they all bored me to death. Moreover the lead singer has no charisma at all (at least in these videos) He's not even looking into the camera as if he is not even interested in his audience. Plus: the first four of the songs all sound very alike. Heard a million times in some student's pub where a random local band tries to make their first steps. Only difference here: they are good, skilled, professional musicians. But the songs are so not Eurovision, that I hardly can imagine them to get even close to the final.

Newsflash : Most lead singers in actual rock bands don't look at the camera. It's really not a big deal. And what does "not Eurovision" mean. I love ESC because any type of song can get a good result if done well. I can imagine many people voting for this kind of music.

So not looking into the camera makes you uncharacteristic? I always get creeped out by those Eurovision entries who don't look away from the camera for a single second. It's if they directly look at me begging: "please vote for me". The songs don't lend themselves to have constant eye contact with the camera either. Can you imagine if the frontman would look into the camera the whole time during "Weagree", it would take away the atmosphere.

Anyway, I like the different approach that :ge: is trying to take again, for me it's an improvement in comparison to last year, although i'm probably the only one who thinks that. They really sound like "the Strokes" but in each songs something seems missing..... maybe a little power. My personal favourite is Weagree, since it lends itself more to the band's style. Its also the only the only song where in genuinely feel the atmosphere of the song. Good choice Georgia!

And Anouk didn't look in the camera at all in Malmö 2013 and still got top 10. So it is possible to do well even if you "don't care" about the viewers. ;)

Wow I wouldn't have expected such a massive response.

Well then: The fact that "most" people do something doesn't make this singer more charismatic. That's called a "ad populum" fallacy.
I never said, it is BECAUSE he doesn't do so, that he lacks charisma. Looking into the camera is just ONE way to convey personality and emotions (and without any doubt the easiest and most direct one, I think you can agree on that.). That's why I said he EVEN doesn't do it. If he WAS charismatic, he could easily convey this WITHOUT looking in the camera. I have been in rock concerts where the singer has had its eyes completely closed throughout merely every song and I had goos bumps. It's of course also true, that some singers look you in the eye directly all the time and they seem to be like vain masks. But also in that case, they are not charismatic in the first place.

BUT my error was, that I stated this as if this was an objective fact, which of course it isn't. I should have said: He is not charismatic TO ME. To others, he may be. Apparently he is to you.

As for the different approach - yes, I also appreciate new styles and different efforts. But the mere fact that something is new or different is not enough to impress me. As in this case still find theses songs completely boring and furthermore not at all new. As I said, I have the impression, that I heard these songs a million times before. They don't do nothing at all for me.

Last but not least - of course it is possible, that this reaches a top result in Malmö, but I doubt it highly.

I'm really surprised "Midnight Gold" is destroying that poll but i'm not complaining. Cowbell action at Eurovisionxheat My favourite today however is "Sugar and Milk" that sadly (another surprise) isn't doing great in the poll. I think it's the most infectious of the five songs. I can't get it out of my head. I'm pretty confident this is the best one for Eurovision. "Weagree" could do very well but it's a mega risk. It would all depend on the vibe it manages to create in the hall. The others i'm unsure on. All five turn me on though

I agree with you about Sugar and Milk. I'm sad that it's doing so badly on the poll and probably won't go to Eurovision :(

It does look like a straight fight between Midnight Gold and Weagree. So all my support is behind Midnight Gold, as I feel sending Weagree is a wasted opportunity and probably will result in a dreadful outcome at Eurovision.

Re: GEORGIA 2016 - Nika Kocharov & Young Georgian Lolitaz

It's been a very unusual process: first, they picked a group that you don't see that much around on Eurovision, and then when I tought "Oh well, but they're surely going to soft its sound, make it a little more commercial"...NOPE! They still sound as an indie/garage/alternative band...

...and I really love it. Say whatever you want about these guys, but they got balls.

I... really like most of these songs. The only one I really didn't like was "Weagree": too slow and experimental for my taste.

But for the rest, I really like "Pain In My Heart" and "Midnight Gold".

I still think they have a high hill to climb: Eurovision isn't the friendliest place for this kind of music, but at least, and unlike Finland's last year, we got a decent Rock representant.
