Tonight is the day of the biggest derby in Portugal: Sporting CP - Benfica!!
We (Sporting) are playing great football this season, and in the first two matchdays we won 5-1 against Arouca and 4-0 against Académica! Benfica lost against Maritimo and won against Gil Vicente 2-1, scoring the two goals in extra time.
It'd be awesome if we manage to win, as we'd have a 6 points advantage to them!

Results of the 2nd matchday, that happened last weekend:

Steaua Bucharest bought 3 new players before the closing of the transfer window:

1. Ionut Neagu (Otelul Galati):
He is a good adding to our team! A good midfielder, who played with Otelul in the UEFA Champions League, two years ago.

2. Fernando Varela (SC Vaslui):
He is a good defender bought to replace Vlad Chiriches. He is not as good as he was, but I think he can handle the UEFA Champions League.

3. Pantelis Kapetanos (CFR Cluj):
This is the best signing! He played for Steaua betwen 2009 and 2010, where he was the top scorer of the team that season. After that season he was called to the Greek national team for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He made a mistake in the game against SC Napoli in the UEFA Europa League, then he got a stupid red card at the score of 3 - 0 for Steaua. The mtch ended 3 - 3 and, in the end, we lost the qualification. He was sacked after tht moment and went to CFR Cluj, where he was a key player. He scored the last minute goal against Dinamo Bucharest, that made CFR Cluj champions and he scored in UEFA Champions League against FC Basel and Manchester United.

We also loaned a lot of young players from Academia Hagi (Viitorul Constanta Reserves Team) to use in the UEFA Champions League Under 19. We can also use this players in Liga 1!

SPORTING 1-1 BENFICA

Sporting played a great game! We scored early, at the 10th minute via Fredy Montero. We dominated the whole first half, and the only time Benfica played better was around the 60th-70th minute, when they managed to tie. We had many oppurtonities, many more attacks than Benfica and corners as well, it's just a shame we didn't score. If we continue like this, we could have a chance this season!

4th MATCHDAY

c4_zps52959e33.png

OLHANENSE 0-2 SPORTING

And our great streak continues! We dominated the first half, having manys serious attempts of scoring. The first goal however came already on the second half, by Fredy Montero, once again, who has scored 6 goals in 4 matches! We dominated the rest of the game.

I hope we can continue like this! It has been a great recovery after our horrible last season ever (literaly the worst in Sporting's history). Just for you to see, we have scored 12 matches in 4 games, while in last season's overall 30 games we scored 36 goals. That's a third of the total goals we scored last season in just 4 games!
The fact that we didn't qualify to the European competitions is a blessing in disguise. That way we can focus more on our internal problems, solve them, and do well in the league! Next year, we'll return to European competitions strong :D

Sloboda 1:2 Partizan

Unbelievable, but our play is still very bad, although the result in Uzice is something that we definetly must be happy with, as this is the first time in our history that we took all 3 points there. Sloboda was offensive as expected and their attacker Tiago gave us a lot of problems just like always and just like I expected, but they didn't use their chances while we did use ours. With this victory, and Zvezda's tie against Donji Srem, we are now first on the table and hopefully we continue with these results, but I honestly hope that the play will improve, as the level of Partizan requires much more. Now we are having matches against OFK Beograd tomorrow that will also be tough, as OFK has a good team and they changed the coach, so the players will use this (ideal) chance to prove that they can be counted on and then we are playing against Vojvodina in Novi Sad, and that match will be our hardest challange by far until this point.

Full results:

Rad - Radnički 1923 1:0

Javor - Čukarički 0:2

OFK Beograd - Radnički Niš 2:1

Jagodina - Spartak Zlatibor Voda 2:0

Napredak - Voždovac 1:1

Vojvodina - Novi Pazar 2:1

Sloboda - Partizan 1:2

Crvena Zvezda - Donji Srem 2:2

Partizan 2:0 OFK Beograd

In the end a routine victory of Partizan easier than I expected, knowing that OFK has a great team and that their current team is composed of many ex-Zvezda players who are always motivated against us. OFK Beograd played great in the first half, they had a vision to kill the tempo and calm down the supporters and be more agressive in the second half, they were also defending themselves well, but the first goal cut them off, and later there was no conception in their play which result in another goal of Partizan and several missed chances. This was one of our better matches this season, and I think that the aggression that we showed in the second half is a good direction to where we should be heading in our future challenges.

We are now a sole leader in the championship. Now we have to prepare for the Cup match against Metalac and also for the derby against Vojvodina in Novi Sad on Sunday, and that will be our hardest match in this half-season.

1/16 finals of Serbian cup is played today! Partizan is playing against the team that left the first league last year - Metalac . We are the absolute favorites in this duel, but we musn't underestimate the team of Metalac, as they play quite well and modern in the second league, and they have a better team than some members of our first league. Also, cup is a specific competition, and anything can happen in one match, when it is played in the elimination system. We must be offensive from the start and try to score at least once in the first phase of the match which will make the job much easier. Also, we shouldn't use the combined team but our strongest one. We don't play in Europe this season, so there are no excuses for the players.

Here are the full pairs for the 1/16 finals of the Serbian cup:

Borac - Rad
Trstenik - Novi Pazar
Radnički 1923 - Banat
Partizan Bumbarevo Brdo - Spartak
Radnički Sremska Mitrovica - Donji Srem
Teleoptik - Sloboda
Sloga - Vojvodina
Mladost - OFK Beograd
Rakovica - Jagodina
Smederevo - Čukarički
BSK Borča - Jedinstvo Putevi
Bežanija - Radnički Niš
Partizan - Metalac
Napredak - Javor

Partizan 2:0 Metalac

A very well deserved victory of Partizan and qualification to 1/8 finals of the Serbian cup. We were dominating through the whole match and the way things were developing it was just a question of how many goals we are going to score (we could have easily scored 5-6 goals in the end, but this problem with realization in the attack is still following us). I am not very satisfied with some mistakes that were occuring in the last line of the team, but generally, as I said, we were dominating through the whole match, so I am happy with that. Metalac is a mix of experienced Superliga players and the young ones. They were oriented on the young ones mostly in this match, as they knew they are practically chanceless against Partizan, and the match in the 2nd league against the current leader Sloga Kraljevo is of a bigger importance for them. Nonetheless, they showed huge desire in the first half, they even had 1 very, very good chance that they missed, but overall, the difference in quality is too big. I wish them all the best in the season and I hope they quickly return to the first league because they really deserve it.

Now that we passed this obstacle, we have to prepare for the derby in Novi Sad against Vojvodina. It will be our hardest match so far, as Vojvodina is traditionally very tough rival for us, and not to mention that they have a very good team this season and that they proved it in the Europa League qualification matches. In the league, they are worse than expected, but, it musn't fool us, as it is known that they play above their objective qualities against bigger teams, so I expect a very offensiveVojvodina on Sunday, and Vojvodina who will burn from desire to take all 3 points, just like always. We need to prepare well.A victory in Novi Sad on Sunday is a huge step towards 7th consecutive title for us, and I hope we will make it.

Full results of 1/16 finals of the Serbian cup (the qualificants are in "bold"):

Borac
- Rad 2:1
Trstenik - Novi Pazar 0:2
Radnički 1923
- Banat 1:0
Partizan Bumbarevo Brdo - Spartak 0:3
Radnički Sremska Mitrovica - Donji Srem 0:2
Teleoptik - Sloboda 0:3
Sloga - Vojvodina 1:1 (penalties - 2:3)
Mladost - OFK Beograd 0:0 (penalties - 3:4)
Rakovica - Jagodina 1:4
Smederevo - Čukarički 0:1
BSK Borča - Jedinstvo Putevi 0:1
Bežanija - Radnički Niš 0:2
Partizan
- Metalac 2:0
Proleter - Crvena Zvezda 0:3
Napredak
- Javor
2:1

No surprises at all, all the favorites passed to the next round. The only little surprise is the defeat of Rad from Borac, but Rad is very weak this season, and they are huge candidates for relegation, so it's not a huge surprise.

In the Last 32 round of the Romanian Cup, Steaua Bucharest met Avantul Barsana, a team from Liga 4, from a village located 800 kilometeres from Bucharest. The players from the team are amateurs as they have other jobs. The match was so unballanced that Steaua decided to ply it in the small stadium of Berceni, and not on National Arena or Ghencea. We also used our 3rd team and won 4 - 0. But for the players and the population of Barsana, the match was a big celebration. They came from far away to see this match and they where dressed in traditionall outfits and singed traditionall music. It was a joy to watch them how happy they where for this match.

The derby of the round and the biggest challenge in the league for us is starting in a bit! I hope that the players are ready to take all 3 points in Novi Sad against a great team of Vojvodina today.

We should not attack from the start, as Vojvodina will attack from the first minute, and in case we create a mistake in the last line it will be very dangerous for our goal. We should use the same tactics that we use in derbies. That means that we must play a bit more defensively, kill the rhytm of the match and close all entrances to our goal, especially the right flank where Miroslav Vulicevic (the best right back in the league) and Enver Alivodic are acting. In the second half we should strike with high pressing on their last line and look for the chance to score. Vojvodina has the best defense in the league just like the best right side of the field in the play. They are weaker now that Oumarou Abubakar left the time but still Vulicevic, Alivodic and the young players like Poletanovic and Radoja can create a lot of trouble.

There will not be many chances to score today, so Kojic and Fofana need to focus in the attack. I would start with Kojic as a sole attacker in the first half, and in the second when we strike with high pressing, I would replace him with Fofana.
