Re: FINLAND 2016
SUPER SIZZLING HOT
EINI: “Draamaa” - What can I say? I just couldn't resist this ones charms. Just so darn infectious. The verses are mysterious and crunchy then the chorus just explodes. The Finnish language sounds so good to my ears. All the pieces just connect here for me. As pop music gets colder, harsher and more up it's own backside, this song here is like a 'lil beacon of light. I know a lot of people aren't going to like it, and it probably doesn't stand a chance of winning, but i'm just so delighted to see it here.
I adore the music video as well. What a storyline! Eini's car breaks down and she's left on the roadside, frustrated as cars drive past her. She braves the woods and twiggery. A bright blinding light leads Eini through the fog to a repair garage! She walks in to find an assortment of hunky men who have been working hard with their spanners. It's coy smiles all round for a while until Eini starts to slowly sway. Before long tops are off and the hottest garage party of all time is taking place. The video finishes with a spanner being hoisted into the air, perhaps a sign that Eini's car has now been repaired.
DAMMIT SEND DRAAMAA TO EUROVISION!
Liking
STELLA CHRISTINE: “Ain’t Got Time For Boys” - Very chill and soulful. Reminds me of the music I was listening to a lot back in the mid 00's.
LIEMINEN: “Pehmeiden arvojen vaalijat” - Quite a wonderful piece of electronic pop. It's certainly groovy. Clearly quite Daft Punk inspired.
CLEMSO: “Thief” - I thought this would be something i'd instantly disregard. I haven't a good history with NF songs with a touch of African flavour but this is pretty cool though. There's a lot going on with the music. A very full and rich sound.
RAFAELA TRUDA: “Rise Up” - Another one I wasn't expecting to appreciate. Totally not my thing normally but I couldn't help but enjoy parts of it, especially that rap! I can see people going nuts for this, and I think i'll let them
Solid but not my thing
PÄÄ-ÄIJÄT: “Shamppanjataivas” - Like a "Pizza" part 2. Fun for sure but not my kind to be honest.
ANNICA MILÁN & KIMMO BLOM: “Good Enough” - This just about avoided my "Don't like" pile. It's ok and melodically goes to not where exactly i'm expecting it to go. It's alright. I wouldn't choose to listen to it though.
BARBE-Q-BARBIES: “Let Me Out” - Hammy rock. Nice guitar solo, other than that i'm not really feeling it.
Undecided
SAARA AALTO: “No Fear” - Gosh, this song confuses the heck out of me. So much I like and so much I don't. The strong Indian touch is wonderful but there are parts that spoil it. A bit too sparkly in parts.
PIETARIN SPEKTAAKKELI: “Liian kuuma” - This stands out but I can't say it's grabbed me at the moment.
CRISTAL SNOW: “Love Is Blind” - At first I was like "Uhhhh" but I have to admit by the end something caught me. Perhaps how forward and strong the vocals are here helped me. The song isn't anything special but it's an ear worm.
MIKKO HERRANEN: “Evil Tone” - Looking at the thumbnail for the video on youtube I was like in my head "Dude, please be good". On my very first listen I thought this was the most boring, cliche piece of soft rock I had ever heard. I gave it another go just now though and whilst it's still nothing extraordinary, my first thoughts were perhaps a tad harsh. This isn't as bad as I thought it was.
SANDHJA: “Sing It Away” - I could end up liking this one but will need more time with it. It's catchy, a little bit funky. Not super original but it does what it says on the tin.
Don't like
ATTENTION 2: “Ready For The Show” - No words for this one...
GUŠANI BROTHERS: “Poom Poom” - Not my kind of trash.
MIKAEL SAARI: “On It Goes” - I've already shared my opinion on this. Just such a disappointing song that leaves me cold. Overproduced and overblown, dare I say pretentious. It doesn't hold a candle to "We Should Be Through".
TUULI OKKONEN: “Don’t Wake Me Up” - Dull chorus that just floats in the middle of nowhere.
YLONA: “Blazing Fire” - Zzzzzzzzz sorry, i'm actually running out of words.
All in all it's a kind of disappointing selection compared to last years. I've got my hype song though so i'm happy
