Amazing match last night and tight as it was expected. A deserved victory of :en: .This team has potential unlike some previous ones. Even though it may appear as if :en: was lucky, they had a control of this match and they technically should've won in the first 90 minutes already. ::cb was under a huge pressure and that was seen during the entire match. In general, they did a good job on this tournament and these threats that some players are getting are completely idiotic. I hope the police will investigate those threats because we can't allow another Escobar scenario to happen again.

As for :se: and :ch: as I said, more than a deserved victory of :se: who was better in pretty much every aspect. :se: did an impressive job on this World Cup tour, they knocked out many favorites (that started from the qualifications already) and we will see if they have strength to eliminate another huge team.

It's even worse, you don't talk about in in immediate rage. Even after some days you are angry about it. You should just take up your shoulders and go on with life.

Rage? What rage? There is no rage at all, there is only satisfaction. Because, indeed, what they were doing has returned to them like a boomerang. Life is not neccecarily always fair but sport is, that's one of the best things about it. Eventually, you get what you ask for. Now is the right time to say it too. So, I just said what everybody else thinks here. I didn't insult any of them.

On the other hand, they were trash-talking our country ever since they found out that we will play against them back in December (and I will not quote what remarks they were using because obviously such things have no place in this topic) and they were calling out for violence as well. Even though there wasn't a single provocation from the :rs: side. Nobody was commenting the horrible things they were saying for their media.

Then, on the World Cup, they had a referee to push them against :br: . They scored an irregular goal and the entire :br: team complained. And they were right.

The match with us......well, I don't want to repeat myself and I think Rio Ferdinand's comments of the match sum things up perfectly. They needed a referee again just to ensure that they don't end up losing from a team that is below 30th place in the rankings currently. Plus that behavior after the goal which is a story of it's own.

So, right now that they are knocked out and after the referee above got sanctioned by FIFA for the terrible judging on that particular match, obviously everyone in :rs: is super-satisfied and we every reason for that. There is nothing political in that nor is there any "rage".

And with this I am putting a stop on any further comment regarding those particular players from :ch: and their behavior. They got more attention than they deserved anyway. And the same for the referee. He got his suspension as he deserved and he will not have a chance to wreck any other team in these remaining matches which is great. He already did enough by indirectly knocking us out of the further competition And the story ends there.

England's match last night has become the most watched television event in the United Kingdom since the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, with 23.6 million viewers + 3.3 million online - over 40% of the entire British population!

It was the 7th most watched tv show in the past 25 years:
1 Ceremonial Funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales: 32.0 million
2 London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony: 27.3 million
3 Wedding of HRH Prince William of Wales and Catherine Middleton: 26.6 million
4 London 2012 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony: 26.3 million
5 France 1998 World Cup Knockout Argentina vs England: 26.0 million
6 Only Fools and Horses New Year Special: 24.4 million
7 Russia 2018 World Cup Knockout Colombia vs England: 23.6 million

The nation is definitely right behind the Three Lions, and a lot of people from Scotland and Wales seem to be getting behind England too!

If I was an Englishman I bet I would be pretty hyped at the moment.. In the light of their miserable (miserable for their own ambitions) WC and Euro history the qualification for the quarter final is already an success and looking at the tournament bracket they have a realistic shot at advancing to the final. So far however they had an easy path. The qualification group wasnt a challenge (Slovenia, Slovakia, Scotland xfacepalm ), let alone Panama in group stage. Tunisia was arguably one of the weaker teams in this world cup and yet England needed a last-minute-goal to beat them. I dont judge about the Belgium match since both team played with their B sides. Columbia rather underperformed in Russia + they were missing James. I was not surprised England could beat them yet I was surprised they beat them by penalty shoot-out

For me Sweden vs England is a 50:50 match. England has more individual power, Sweden has an more impressive run, beating France in qualification and ending up over Netherlands in the group. Then they knocked Italy out, won a group including Mexico and Germany. And also against Switzerland it never felt like they could get knocked out. They didnt concede a goal in 5 of the last 6 matches and they only lost two of their last 15 matches against England. Their formation looks solid and consistent.

I think the team that scores the first goal is eventually gonna win. I bet (and hope) it will be Sweden :) I can also see this match resulting in a penalty shoot-out. In this case Sweden must win cause WC history tells us that no team can win two penalty shoot-outs in a row. It would be way too ironic for my imagination that of all teams England could be the first one to break this rule.

Moreover, I believe France will beat Uruguay 1:0, Brazil will hit an attacking Belgian side on the break and win 3:1 or something. Finally Russia's fairytale will continue and they will beat Croatia... (I hope I am wrong here)

By the way, some random fact:
WC goals scored by Werder Bremen players: 2
WC goals scored by FC Bayern players: 0

It has happened once in the World Cup, Argentina won twice in a row in 1990 (QF against Yugoslavia, SF against Italy). :p But there are also some other facts about that game that is interesting.

England has gone past quaterfinals just two time:

1966: 1-0 against Argentina
1990: 3-2 (aet) against Cameroon

They have lost 6 times in a quaterfinals:
1954: 2-4 against Uruguay
1962: 1-3 against Brazil
1970: 2-3 (aet) against W. Germany
1986: 1-2 against Argentina
2002: 1-2 against Brazil
2006: 1-3 (p) against Portugal

All times they lost have been against pretty strong teams at the time, but still not a very convincing record 2-6 in quaterfinals.

Now let's have a look at Sweden, who has done better, winning 3 times:

1938: 8-0 against Cuba
1958: 2-0 against Soviet Union
1994: 7-6 (p) against Romania

And we have lost only one time:
1934: 1-2 against Germany

Having a 3-1 ratio is something we gotta keep in mind for the quaterfinals. (You could add the World Cups where they didn't have a play-off, but decided not to. If so, then Sweden went to the final four once in 1950, while England never had)

Let's have a look at the matches in WC and euros we had against England:

Euro 1992: 2-1 for Sweden
WC 2002: 1-1
WC 2006: 2-2
Euro 2012: 3-2 for England

And we have met each other in qualfications many times, most of the games ending in a draw (with a slight advantage in wins for Sweden, but only just). So yeah, this is a game that will be quite special for both of us! :D

Fingers crossed for Belgium against Brazil. Would be iconic for Brazil to get eliminated now.
