I forgot to mention Albania as a flop.

Albania is always usually a big fan favourite. But ths year is on a par with half of Albania's songs the past decade and only a few have qualified, each time it was borderline except for Bushpepa last year, but his song was quite different.

Flops:  (the clearest of them all, it won’t even make it to the final), :ch: (unfortunately)
Dark Horse: I can only think about :au:

Somewhere in the middle of nowhere... XD
Flops: :is: Iceland - I really hope this doesn't flop! It's not even close to my top 10, it's a style of music I don't appreciate, but I can see that it's a great composition, interpreted with passion and this needs to be rewarded with a good place in the final. But I can see this flopping and not even making it out of the semifinal...

Dark Horse: :rs: Serbia is really under the radar this year! But her voice is magnificent! I really enjoy this song.

Still early days as we haven’t seen the rehearsals, which as we all know is make or break. But I don’t see Norway as a likely fanflop, they stand out as the only trio in their respective semi and are collectively one of the most instantly likeable performers. The song is memorable with a clear hook and some high impact staging will be enough to see them qualify with a respectable result.

In a year with many well produced, radio-friendly, modern pop songs it’s hard to foresee indeed any fan favs flopping. That said, I think it’s likely that title will belong to some of the songs that fall under this jury-friendly category, rather than televote-friendly songs. Although I think both are likely qualifiers, songs like Armenia and Belgium spring to mind, unless of course they bring something visually arresting to the stage. Armenia though is just less distinctive than similar entries in Malta, Cyprus and Greece and Belgium is too sanitised to do well with either jury or televote. I’d say France are in for much worse result than expected too, though I’m not sure how much traction the song has actually gained in the community to be considered a flop anyway.
(TLDR fanflops: Armenia, Belgium, France).

Flop : :ch: :nl:
Switzerland won't gather as much points as we think and end up 20-26th in the final something like that
The Netherlands won't really flop but something like 3rd to 6th place is likely to me. But I mean that's a flop when you're supposed to be the winner I guess ?

Belarus is weirdly likeable and more than all the poptastic-alike songs. It feels way more genuine and I think the viewers will notice it at home

Really liking Slovenia as a (relative) dark horse. Probably not nearly enough mass appeal to threaten the top 5 but something like 8-15. Stands out for it’s atmospheric quality and being one of the more genuine performances with actual chemistry ought to help.

i will now try to predict the possible winner of a number of awards invented by me

THE KATE RYAN AWARD (fan favourite, fans believe in qualification right until the moment it doesn't happen): :ch:

THE MEI FINEGOLD AWARD (fan favourite, rehearsals and staging are bad and everyone leaves the sinking ship before it NQs): :gr:

THE HAREL SKAAT AWARD (high in odds, is thoroughly underwhelming live and doesn't really shock anyone when it doesn't place well in the final): :cy:

THE NIKA KOCHAROV AWARD (qualifies to the final and shocks the outraged fanbase outside this board though the writing really was on the wall): :at:

THE COMMON LINNETS AWARD (nobody cares until the live performance, it is a smashing success and then everyone pretends they always loved it even though they tooooooootally didn't): :be: and to a lesser extent :fr:

THE SPAIN AWARD (has all the potential in the world, completely wastes it, local fans stay deluded and are shocked and upset when it flops): :es:

THE BLANCHE AWARD (fan favourite, fans ridiculously betray the entry because "the singer is bad live", then the singer definitely isn't bad live and does well and everyone stays mad for a couple weeks because "the singer was bad live" until they try to save face by pretending they loved it all along even though alaska49 who was faithful from day one will absolutely never forget how fickle and mercenary you all were): :pt:

can't wait to get all of this wrong (except spain duh). in all seriousness, this is the one year it feels like everything will go as most predict, at least in semifinals? i can't really pinpoint a real kate ryan in the making, even in semi 2 where it's very possible to happen. also, at this point  no longer counts as a kate ryan because everyone expects it lol.

dh: :de: will do really well. :gr: will actually do well and more, since many people here are predicting it to flop. :dk: will qualify along with :lv:, but :dk: is the bigger dark horse.
flop: :am: tbh, also :hu: even though nobody's really hyping it per se, but I don't think it will qualify, isn't touching the top 10, a mild flop for :pt:

(could be in the bold predictions thread but lol)

As a person who had predicted :de: 2018 success, mark my words,

2019 :uk: is the dark horse of the year.

I expect a top 10 finish if the staging goes well.

Fanflop:

Switzerland: Very popular With fans and great video, but Switzerland is overrathed nearly every year and will him made it live. I,m not sure about it and could see Switzerland be a fanflop. Also The Netherlands, Sweden, Aserbaijan could take votes from him in semifinal

Norway: Very popular with fans, but this is a little bit like Monsters and hear them calling fram last year/2016. Did not get many 12 Points from the int jury in Norway jury. Much better in studio than live.

Others flop but not very popular in fans voting is North Macedonia, Estonia and Albania. In first semifinal Iceland could be a fanflop like Finland 2015

Dark Horses: Maybe not for winning, but for top 10 in final

Czech Republic: This work good live and could stand out very well this year

Lithuania: Well many views on youtube and the song could be a Lion King song. Could work really well when Lion King Movie come out and People will think is a really good song. Also Ireland, UK, Norway and Latvia will help this song in televoting semifinal 2

Denmark: Lise Cable has wrote this song. Could get some of the votes Zoe get some years ago. It really stand out between all the male pop/ballad songs

Aserbaijan: Could easy see this get many Points in East Europe

I hate :az: entry but i can see it doing very well on televoting too! If the staging is good then it will reach 3rd or 4th position in televoting! I have no idea about juries but if they like it too then top 5 will come!

:at: will qualify and will do well mostly because of juries!

How can :ch: be "overrated nearly every year" when they have missed the final 4 years in a row now? Just asking

Sorry. Overrathed by the fans not in the real contest. And personal i,m are one of them who always hope/think Switzerland will do it better than the actually result is. Like Timebelle and Zibbs who many fans loved like me, but not qualifly to final. Melanie and Rykka was last

Dark horse:

:pl: - This will come alive during the performance and it's very unique
:es: - Could be this years Alcohol is Free
:rs: - Not a huge fan, but I can see it being successful and finishing somewhere 9th-15th
:lv: - Possible shock qualifier

Flop:

 - In the second half of the second semi... this will get thrown under a bus
:sl: - I can't see dripping water sound + barely present vocals appealing to many people
:mt: - One of my absolute faves, but without an engaging/active performance this will finish like that Spanish hoedown girl from 2016
:au: - It's on the bad side of 'polarizing'
